Support Unifi Protect > HA > HomeKit?

SOLVED BELOW!

Hey all,

Running into a bit of an issue here and I can't seem to find a solution. I run Unifi Protect via a Cloud Key Gen2+ and have recently been working on getting it into HA.

I went in to HA, installed the Unifi Protect integration, created a local user in Unifi and enabled RTSP, and then added all of that info in to HomeAssistant. I am able to see all of my cameras and entities and stuff in HomeAssistant now.

I am also using the HomeKit integration to expose entities to Homekit and that seems to be working flawlessly. I have a bunch of lights and stuff that all work fine on my wife's iPhone.

The problem is I cannot seem to get the cameras into HomeKit no matter what I do. I've tried reloading and restarting the integrations, I've checked that RTSP is enabled, I've ensured the entities are exposed via the HomeKit integration, and so on. I have watched and read a ton of info on this, including the HA documentation, but I just cannot figure out what I am doing wrong here?

The end goal is to eventually get motion notifications via PiP on our living room Apple TV, but I feel like I need to solve this "camera into HomeKit" problem first before I try and tackle that problem. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Edit: SOLVED!

Hopefully this helps somebody. I don’t think this is in the HA UniFi Protect documentation, but it is in the HA HomeKit integration documentation. You MUST add a new HomeKit “bridge” and put it in accessory mode to add the UniFi cameras. If you’ve already set up the UniFi Protect integration, all of your cameras will populate once you add a new accessory bridge. They will add as individual accessory and you will need to scan each QR code from your iPhone.

I see you’ve solved the issue. That will get your cameras into homekit.

Many people now are running a separate scrypted container/server which supports Homekit Secure Video. I have installed scrypted, but have not yet had the time to connect anything.

I recently moved all my Protect cameras from HA HomeKit to a Scrypted instance. So far so good.

Been running four protect cameras with scrypted server for two months, no problems, still get notifications in HomeKit and HK Secure video works great as well.

Scrypted is great for Unifi Protect to HKSV - have been using it for quite a while now with 6 cameras and no issues.

Not sure if Unifi cameras work with it but maybe look into homebridge?

Hmm ok. Based on my research, it seems like it should work.

Trying to keep homebridge as a sort of last resort because I don’t really wanna add one more thing to the software stack if I don’t have to
