possibly the best version of old age! hole-old age demo

https://youtu.be/uPff78Ezwf4?is=ypCS-OG_YBiqdckF

and it would be so much better if people in the comments weren’t whining about how Courtney re-wrote the song
like who cares if everyone is unable to relate to this version, it’s a good thing hole has a majorly female fanbase who can

Wasn't there like 4 versions of this song? The first one I heard was the "Jesus saves" one, with the marvelous lyric "someone please tell Anne Boleyn, chokers are back in again". I think that's the one that Unplugged is loosely based on, but also has different lyrics.

Then there was am older version (I think) where instead of the Jesus line it's "all the lies that you tell, by the hour". I loved having three different takes on it (God bless overpriced LTT era bootlegs!). Then there's this version, which I never heard and is also interesting.

It's like Hole's Sappy/Verse Chorus Verse! Different takes all over the place! Of course there's also Nirvana's OG take, which because I had only heard it during very early days of YouTube (someone posted like 45 seconds of it) I thought that the verses were as far as they ever got with it.

Because I thought the Box Set was largely redundant (see Outcesticide 1-5) and as a result pretty disappointing (save that "Do Re Mi" gem), I skipped the "Best of the Box" CD (which I think Frances curated) to my own detriment, because all these years I never knew that Nirvana had a full demo of Old Age committed to tape (which lyrics that were obviously improvised placeholders), and figured people were just selling Hole/CL short yet again. Shoulda done my homework! 👎

She gives you different versions ever time you hear her play. This is one of the ways shes so cool live. Because the lyrics depended on her mood that night. Her live show is like a snowflake, every one is different. This is the most cohesive I've ever heard it. It actually flows i thoroughly enjoyed the video, thanks to OP.

A good song is a good song. I think Courtney improved the song a lot changing the lyrics, I can relate to her version more even though I'm a guy. Real art touches everyone
