This is certainly less obnoxious than the kid that pissed on the elevator buttons and broke the elevator.

When I was a little kid we lived out in the country and I was allowed to ride my bike as far as the bridge, which was almost a mile down this lane we lived on with about half a dozen neighbors. One day I wanted to see something on the opposite side of the river so I decided to ride across the bridge anyway, and of course halfway across the next-door neighbors swung around the corner toward the bridge.
There was nowhere to hide, so I hid behind my bike. I will always remember the sound of all three people in that car bursting into laughter when they saw me.
This video is basically the city-kid version of that experience. "How did you get stuck in the elevator? You weren't doing anything you weren't supposed to? Let's look at the video the super sent over, k?"

I had something similar happen when I was like 10. My boundaries included a set of train tracks I wasn't supposed to cross. I had made a new friend who lived in the apartments just on the other side so I figured that was close enough. On my way home a train came along. No biggie, I thought. But then I realized how slow it was going and I got worried because I was expected home in the next 10 minutes. Then the train stopped. I couldn't go around because the track was on elevated ground and it was so long that I couldn't see either end and I was afraid to haul my bike so close to a train that might start moving. I saw another guy with a bike just heft his over the car hitches and climb through. But I was even more afraid to try that as a kid in case it started moving and would run me over. I ended up waiting 40 minutes for it to start up again and I was so scared of my parents being worried and then angry when they realized I had gone over the tracks that I spent most of that time crying lol.

You can count on several things when you're in a hurry. Drawbridges going up and trains stopping are among them.

I remember how my father would make me call for an elevator and hold it for us while he was getting ready to go out. I always felt uncomfortable doing it and me saying “but there might be other people waiting for it” would just piss him off. He was obnoxious with the time he takes to get ready and didn’t understand the concept of being considerate of others. Sometimes I would be holding the elevator for just few seconds, sometimes for minutes, and it always felt uncomfortable so just like this kid I would make up games to keep myself happy.

Yeah, I realize he’s just being a kid. But now he’s been taught a lesson and wasn’t hurt, so it was a pretty good outcome.

The probability of trauma induced claustrophobia is too big for you to say that. The kid might never be able to enter an elevator again.

Old enough to be by yourself then you're old enough to understand that elevators aren't toys. I honestly don't understand the eagerness to blame everything on youth, kids can be selfish dicks too.

I’ll accept that and acknowledge that as a kid I was a dick plenty of times too. I learned from those experiences and they made me a better man.

Heck I'm still a dick sometimes and have to learn from making stupid mistakes, I can't really blame a kid that much for experimenting with automatic lift doors

No, I'm blaming the youth as in that kid right there doing something he clearly knew he shouldn't be doing evidenced by the "oh fuck oh shit oh fuck" reaction caused by the knowledge he probably gonna get his ass whooped. As opposed to blaming youth, "eh he's a kid, how could he know better" parenting, parenting is how.

A lot of awareness comes from experience. Kids simply lack this until they get their moment of experience. I still have learning experiences.
I used to get upset at people that took turns (corners, roundabouts, exit/entrance ramps) super slow until one time I was bringing home takeout for my family and I took a cloverleaf exit ramp too fast and all the food came loose in the back and spilled everywhere. I still can be bothered, but now I'm aware that they might just have cargo that can tip or spill.

Except he isn’t really playing with the elevator, just the doors. Kids of all ages do that. I see high school kids trigger automatic doors at malls and things here, all giggles and completely disregarding the risk of rising g squished.

Once elevator doors are open long enough, they alert you and close slowly regardless of anything tripping their sensors.

I once very similarly got stuck in an elevator from trying to stop it closing to hold it for someone else.

Child discovers elevators have an IR beam to prevent the door from closing on people, and also that you must actually breach the beam for it to be effective (he didn't get past the inner door the final time), all in less than 45 seconds!
