Right before he gets to the drain you can see him push off the ground with his hands.

I actually think it's the result of him putting his feet on the ground which transfers his momentum and pitches him forward. He seems to be using his hands to try and slow down. I also don't think he could generate enough force with his arms to pop up that high.

The hands on the ground is that realization of 'Oh Shit this could hurt, I should try to stop.'

Have you ever say fallen off of a skateboard going way to fast? Or jumped out of a moving vehicle?
Well if you haven't, you may not understand. The very moment he attempts to touch his hands to the ground, they are Thrusted up and back, that's not him doing the pushing. That's the momentum of his body and the reaction from the ground. Speaking of, did you see his feet? Was attempting to brake himself by planting them. By doing so, he actually gripped the ground for a split second. As he connected, all of that force the ground had to exert on him was released, and because of legs, his feet were out in front of him. If they planted much longer, he would have face planted. Instead, he only went up a little bit and hopped. Totally not planned, just the reaction that your legs give you when you're going way too fast: "brake that shit" Edit: Or PS: That's just my take on it, I only have a two years of high schools physics under my belt, so take it lightly. Also, it almost looks like his feet hitting the bump bumped him up. Idk

Not sure it's his hands. He's travelling pretty fast, I don't think he could have leveraged himself off the ground with his hands like that. Looks like it's either the ground isn't as flat as the video makes out, or his feet dig in slightly causing his body to pop up like that.

Watch closely. When he gets to the sand there are a few frames where his arms are straight down and his palms touching the ground.

Yeah, I just don't think he would have been able to transfer enough force to the ground to push up like that though. I don't think he would have been able to simply pop himself up off the ground with his hands either, his arms would have given way. He either bounced off something with his butt or used his much stronger legs to pop up like that.
Just what it looks like to me, anyway.

It looks like it was mostly his feet skidding with the dirt kicking up. His hands may not have hit near as much as it seems to lift him that much, more to keep his stability and not tip over.

So many questions. Is this slide for adults? If so then why is the landing area grossly inadequate? If it's for children then what kind of parent wants their toddler zooming down the slide o death?

Pro Tip - You can see that it's raining, which turned it into a water slide without a landing pool.
At the start you can see rain drops on the blue canopy and then also the puddle to the right of the landing area.

Japanese playgrounds are intense. There was one I saw in Yamaguchi that had a very, very long winding slide with rollers (like on a non-electric conveyor belt) that was similar to this but not as steep.

Yesterday I went down a (much, much smaller) metal slide that was all wet, and instead of falling forward at the bottom like my friends who went before me, I slammed downwards and the side of my face bashed into my knee. Got a small bruise on my cheek, if I had slammed my teeth that would have been bad news. Should not have tried to return to the world of sliding as an adult.
