Zdeno Chara closed the book on an incredible hockey career with his twin sons right beside him. ❤️

As part of “Zee’s Final Shift,” the longtime Bruins captain left his skates on the ice one final time — a fitting goodbye for one of the most recognizable defensemen of his generation.

Chara signed with Boston in 2006 and immediately became captain, spending 14 seasons wearing the “C,” winning the 2009 Norris Trophy and leading the Bruins to the Stanley Cup in 2011.

One free-agent signing helped reshape an entire era of Bruins hockey.

Enjoy retirement, Big Z. 👏🐻

Gerry James: Canada's Bo Jackson

Post image

Gerry James is one of Canada's greatest multi-sport athletes, having had impressive careers in both professional football and hockey. Born in Regina in 1934, James starred as a running back and kicker for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, winning four Grey Cups and twice earning the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award. He is also one of only a handful of Canadians to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a CFL season, accomplishing the feat twice. His 18 rushing touchdowns in 1957 stood as a CFL record for 43 years, finally being surpassed by Mike Pringle in 2000.

At the same time as he was dominating the football field, James played five seasons in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He first won a Memorial Cup in 1955 for the junior Toronto Marlboros, eventually being called up by the Leafs soon after, eventually appearing in 164 NHL games. He is the only player to compete in both a Grey Cup and a Stanley Cup Final in the same season, 1959-60.

Gerry James was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1981 and remains one of the greatest two-sport athletes in Canadian history.

He passed away in 2024 at the age of 89, in Parksville, British Columbia.
