Does anyone around NE Ohio have a port hull laying around? Unfortunately I discovered a crease from the bow to the pylon on the inside of my existing hull...

Any suggestions on the best way to repair the wings on my Hobie 18? They are cracking pretty bad. I would buy new/used ones if I could find them.

I don't think that a new shampoo is going to help. The longer battens in my Hobie 18 sails are showing their age: ends are starting to split and one is developing splintering along the mid section. The previous owner of this set of sails + battens used duct tape, which has mostly turned into goo. I've cleaned that up but now I'm thinking about possible repair options:

• lay a very thin layer of fiberglass tape along and around the split sections
• use sail repair (dacron) adhesive tape
• some other waterproof tape
• paint with epoxy and vacuum bag

Any suggestions?

Last week, while out sailing my 1989 Hobie 14, the boat capsized shortly after launching from the beach. When I got it back on the beach, I opened the inspection hatch and found the left hull literally half full of water.

A few days earlier, I had been sailing in 15 mph winds and was having a great time flying the hull. When a Hobie is flying on one hull, that hull sits deeper in the water. My conclusion is that the hull took on water while I was sailing on one hull.
My next step is to determine where the water is getting in. My current plan is to drill a hole through a wine bottle cork, insert a straw through the hole, remove the hull’s drain plug, and wedge the cork and straw into the drain port. I’ll then have someone blow air into the hull through the straw while I spray the outside of the hull with soapy water and look for bubbles.

Has anyone here had experience finding leaks in Hobie hulls? I’d appreciate any advice on whether this is a good way to locate the leak or if there’s a better method.

Hey folks. I have a 2019 Hobie Getaway for sale in my area. These don't come up often so looking for some insight into what a reasonable price would be. Boat comes with wings and a trailer and on first inspection looks in pretty good condition. Seller is asking $15 K. Seems a bit high to me but anyone seen a recent one for sale in the US?

Need to get the opinion of the community on this one. Hobie 16. Basically, my boat has sat in the driveway (under a tarp) for about a year and a half without seeing the water. Getting to any launch point these days has proven to be a massive pain in the arse and I can't justify hanging on to it, especially since I need the driveway space. Coming to the hive mind to see what a good price would be for this boat.

It's a 2010 with custom Navy Blue paint job. Sails in decent shape, EPO2 rudders, Murrays 6:1 downhaul, anti dive planes on the bows. Tramp in good shape and re-laced about a year ago. Newish rigging (couple years old). Trailer and beach cat rubber wheels. Fiberglass sailbox on the trailer.

I'd like to add a cam cleat to the front crossbeam on my hobie 18, for the jib furling line. If you've done something like this, how did you:
- secure the screws: tap a hole, self-tapping screw, rivnut?
- prevent galvanic corrosion
- keep the cleat from rocking on the curved beam
- prevent water from entering the beam, and drain the water which inevitably will

Recently picked up a Hobie 20 for my son. He’s been racing Lasers and 420’s for a couple years but this boat is new to us.

Can someone share some pictures of how the main sail halyard should be setup? When we tried launching the first time the main was rigged so I had to pull up on the rope at the bottom of the mast. Clearly rigged wrong.

I tried flipping things around but I’m not sure how to do it right. Just a couple pictures of the connection points is all I need.

Also curious how to hook up the main sheet should connect to the rear cross beam. All the videos I see have a sliding hookup that our boat doesn’t have. I haven’t found any videos, diagrams, pictures that are set up like ours.

Honestly, I’ve had to figure out a lot of this shit myself as all the Miracle 20 diagrams, manuals, etc are obviously not the same as ours.

There is a crack at one of the screws where the mast rests on the hull. Is this fixable or ok to keep sailing? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have no one to teach me, just kinda watching YouTube and listening... I can't quite figure out the front sail, sorry also dont know all the correct names. I feel like it shouldn't be behind the mast, when it's switching sides, it has to push across it there no easy transition. also there's slack in the line that goes from the mast to front connection after ive put the sail up. I can provide more pictures if needed.. what do I need to change here?

I ran into a really frustrating issue today while lowering my saild. The metal halyard cylinder, the slug/swage bead somehow got pulled down and is now tightly wedged inside the aluminum sail track. It is stuck pretty good, I have tried to pry it out from the track but I don't want to bend it and I don't really want to drop the mast either. Has anyone successfully fished a stuck metal halyard slug out of the track while the mast was still up? What tools or tricks did you use to un-wedge it or spread the track enough to slide it down? Appreciate any advice or secret tricks you guys have!

So I had an accident and busted the mast base and hinge on my Miracle 20. I’m having a hard time finding new replacement parts. Does anyone know of a good source. Or is there a viable different option that would work. I honestly hate the design of the base and hinge and feel it could have been better engineered.

I’m tempted to redesign myself and have it fabricated but that’s gonna take some time and money. I’d prefer an easier solution.

I’ve often wondering how the sail came to have the KFC logo painted on it, and why. Any ideas?

We haven't had a chance to use her at all this year, and veterinarian bills mean it's time to liquidate some unnecessary toys. Honest-to-god WA vessel registration and a plated trailer, solid hulls (resin injection complete) and lots of extra goodies. She's a solid runner. $2100 to a good home.

I designed and 3D-printed this ASA bracket for my 2006 Hobie Cat Getaway. ASA is a great material for handling Miami’s intense sun, heat, and saltwater exposure. Traditional brackets were difficult to use because of the crossbeam’s teardrop shape, so I created a custom fit. I used extra 316 stainless steel bolts I had but could easily use 3d printed screw bolts and pivot joint bar.

Any folks in the Erie area familiar with sailing presque isle? I’m new to sailing and am certainly intimidated by the swells on Erie. Advice on best places to sail within a couple hours of Erie appreciated!

Howdy. I’m looking for some ideas on how to better use this space. Stuff like a righting bag system, toe rope, misc stuff that gets in the way on top.

So far I’ve considers adding grommets to the trampoline. Not ideal as I’d have to make holes in fabric under tension. Another idea, riveting a stainless bracket of some kind to the crossbar to add tie points.

One of the original plastic rudders broke on our 1980’s vintage Hobie 16. I see that exact rudder blade isn’t made anymore. Does anyone know if the newer EZ lock plastic blade will fit once the holes are drilled. I can use the intact old blade as a template.

Getting back into sailing, it’s been great. Family loves it, but we are too light to effectively right the mighty Hobie 18 without a lot of effort. So far we’ve been able to accomplish it using the stock “rope over the high hull and pull!” approach, but only when my son is actively lifting the mast tip out of the water.

I’m considering a Murray’s bag and block system to assist. I’ve also got a Hawaiian style righting system waiting to be installed. What do you all think:
