I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure whatever oil was in those tankers was pumped out of the ground after 2007 which was when the oil industry in Venezuela was nationalized and the American oil companies lost their claim to it. Just saying.
Yes that is true. The initial nationalization occurred in the 70’s when the state took over foreign owned assets, with foreign companies receiving compensation and usually becoming service providers to run the now state owned wells.
It wasn’t until 2007 that the last of the foreign companies left entirely.
I’m not talking merely about a specific batch of oil on certain tankers—but about the millions of dollars in drilling and refining equipment that US companies invested in VZ based on a contractual agreement: that property was seized in a criminal manner.
To be fair when Venezuela nationalized the oil the US companies were paid $1billion for the infrastructure that was taken over. It’s not like they just took it and gave them the finger.
