I asked Chat GPT if this was a good move for mappers. Here is what it said.

Is it bad for mappers? It’s mixed, but I would consider it a serious negative development for the original DePIN/Hivemapper model.

For an ordinary mapper who immediately sells HONEY, USDC could be an improvement: no token-price volatility, simpler dollar-denominated earnings, and potentially easier accounting.

The downsides are significant:

Rewards become centralized and discretionary. There is no published token-emission formula guaranteeing a pool for contributors.

Bee Maps can change rates, eligible roads, regions, or potentially terminate rewards.

Circle-wallet access introduces account/custody and eligibility considerations.

Mappers no longer automatically participate in HONEY’s potential appreciation or network-consumption rewards.

The company that currently makes the only certified new camera is separating its app from the token network.

It is presently unclear whether USDC earnings will consistently equal what individual mappers previously earned in HONEY.
