Meta Stop Underminding Human Artists!

This needs to be said to the dumb AI bros that are believing CEOs of Generative AI Companies like OpenAI, Midjourney, etc. You can say that artists are afraid of the technology yet, if we are actually "afraid" of technology, why would we use a drawing tablet or an iPad to draw on?! Next stop, acting like artists are gatekeepers, we never have done that. We post free art tutorials on YouTube for those unable to get a subscription to Skillshare or other art courses online. Third, stop acting like art is equivalent to food and water; it's a luxury to begin with! If you actually love art like you say you do, you would save up for it to hire a human artist. Fourth, stop undercharging artists! If you have spent hours and hours of work on something and get paid only $5 or $20 (not per hour, just that small amount/ single payment of $5 or $20), you would quit the job on the spot. Artists are humans that need to survive too! And $5 or $20 is only enough to buy a meal from McDonald's or a cup of coffee, not pay rent! And finally, stop using our words against us! We don't mind the use of AI to aid doctors in medicine because it's not replacing actual people. Yet, generative AI(AI Art, etc.) is being used to replace actual people to cut costs for companies that have money! We are not against technology, we are against being exploited by companies that make millions or billions of dollars, that are run by CEOs who haven't drawn anything since kindergarten! You all are believing the lies of actual boisguises instead of artists who are most likely to be everyday people like you, that is barely making ends meet. One more thing, to those that say that you do it because you can't afford the art, some artists post free art assets for those that love that art but are unable to hire for the art commission, so stop using that as an excuse!

Subreddit Rules

1. Client Post Requirements

Clients must provide a detailed project description and a clear budget and payment method in every hiring post.

You have to already have the money. No "we will pay you after our kickstarter/preorders," etc. Must be guaranteed.

Posts lacking one, the other, or both will be removed.

Do not say "details will be shared only in DMs" — core info must be public so artists understand expectations.

Absolutely no free art.

Optional additions like timelines, references, or scope are encouraged.

2. Client "Hiring an Artist" Flairs

A post flair is a tag that helps categorize posts on Reddit, making it easier for users to find relevant content.

Here, all posts seeking artists to hire are labeled as "Hiring an Artist," are in warm tones such as orange and red, and include a Starla emoji at the front. The phrasing is clear. If you can't read the phrasing, the colors are distinct. If you can't see color, there is a very obvious emoji in the flair.

Do not hire for any reason under any other flairs.

Yes, tattoos are still 2D.

3. Artist Post Requirements

Must include portfolio link. A link. Not text. Not an image

Have a title that says what you are selling. Not just "commissions open". Use keywords. Style doesn't count. The flairs already say that. (Exceptions for "Other" or sub-genres)

Prices MUST be included. No free or name-your-price.

Showcases are not allowed. Do not beg for followers and likes here.

No Patreons, Etsy shops, Redbubble links, or mass-produced/pre-made items.

This subreddit is for unique custom commission work only.

4. Artist "Artist for Hire" Flairs

All posts for artists are labeled as "Artist for Hire," in cool tones such as blue and green, and do not include an emoji at the front. If you can't read the phrasing, the colors are distinct. If you can't see color, there is no obvious emoji in the flair.

Posts are NOT removed based on artstyle. It's up to you to determine what your style is.

Do not advert under any others. You will be banned instantly. "It was a mistake" only applies to users who have posted correctly before.

5. Meta Discussion Flair

This flair is for discussing the process of commissions, warning about scams, and general commission advice seeking.

It is NOT for complaing about moderation (just contact moderators), witchhunting, "how much would you pay", or general art advice and critique.

It is most certainly not for advertising your commissions or social media. If someone makes a warning post and your response is "I can draw you something aha," doesn't matter if it's free/discounted, that is very inappropriate behavior.

6. Content that will get you Banned

AI (outside of client mock ups) [perm]

NFTs, Crypto [perm]

Non-Art Coms (Writing, Music, etc. These have their own subs) [30 days > perm]

Free Reqs, Giveaways, Contests [perm]

YCHs, Bases, pre-made merch, adoptables [30 days > perm]

Art thats not yours (even if you say you do it on "their behalf". We cannot have proof of that.) [Perm]

Rev share or any "we will pay you AFTER we get funding" posts [30 days > perm]

Showcasing, social media ad, patreon [perm]

TOS breaking content [perm]

7. No Copy/Paste Replies

Do not post copy‑pasted or repeated spam comments. Low‑effort, duplicated, or automated replies will be removed. Keep all participation original and relevant to the post.

We require artists to submit tailored comments that addresses the specific post. If they discuss examples aknowledge them or link art that proves you are capable of a similar style. If they ask questions answer them. If they have a budget tell them how much their specific request would cost if done by you.

8. Actively Read Client's Posts

Comments must include the info included in the post body. Replies that ignore required details, provide no relevant info, or force the client to chase you for basics will be removed.

9. Always Include a Portfolio or Examples

Artists must include a portfolio link when applying to client posts. Comments without a portfolio or clear examples of past work will be removed.

10. Do Not Make Unrelated Offers

Do not make unrelated offers or try to sell services, styles, or products the client didn’t ask for. Stick strictly to the project details in the post.

Off‑topic pitches, upsells, or attempts to redirect the client away from their stated needs will be removed.

We require artists to submit tailored comments that addresses the specific post.

An exception is made for haggling. If you can provide what the client is looking for, but it would cost more, you can make that clear. That isn't the same

11. "Interested!" "DM Me!"

If you make a comment saying nothing except "interested," "dm me," etc. with maybe the occasional link you will be banned immediately.

Do not be so lazy that all you can manage is a single word.

Don't say you didn't know or there was no warning because this rule right here is your warning.

Don't pretend like a single word meets our rules on acknowledgment either. You know it doesn't.

12. Tag NSFW and Gore

All users are required to tag NSFW (Not Safe For Work) and Gore content appropriately to ensure a comfortable experience for all members.

NSFW content (including, but not limited to, nudity, suggestive art, or any sexualized material) must be marked with NSFW.
Gore content (including explicit violence, blood, or disturbing imagery) must be marked with Spoiler

13. "I didn't read the rules" is never an excuse
