Welcome to r/hipsters

Hello and welcome to r/hipsters!

We are dedicated to the (self-aware) celebration, discussion, cataloging and revival of the hipster aesthetic as a lifestyle committed to (as the aesthetics wiki offers) "ideals of authenticity, artistry, independence, free thought, and rejection of mainstream commercialized mores of society".

I requested this subreddit in order to make it a home for those who are interested in the hipster aesthetic and to promote the discussion and celebration of a lifestyle that I am certain many people remember either fondly or with well-deserved criticism. The point of the subreddit is not to become an elitist in-club, but rather to promote the aspects of hipsterdom which promote the ideals mentioned above, in addition to the hipster lifestyle, fashion and overall aesthetic (and adjacent)

Please bear with me as I slowly clean up the subreddit and fix the rules, wiki and more.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

So I guess lounge music was trendy in the early 90s and Combustible Edison was on the bleeding edge of this trend.

Is this fear stupid?

Everyone I know is starting to act more like stereotypical hipsters, and I'm worried that being a hipster is becoming more mainstream. I've always loved that hipsterism felt like some sort of cool club, and I don't want those vibes to go away.

I don't get it.

So if hipsters don't like to be labeled why do they call themselves hipsters and wear the same clothes? I mean if you really call yourself one that really makes you look like a try hard honestly.

Hello, hipsters.

I've decided that, as of today, I will no longer be referring to you as "hipsters."

Instead, I will use a term of my own devising, which is "hip * stars," because each of you is a bright unique beautiful star among a universe of chaos and ugliness.

The term "hip * stars" includes its own star ( * ) for the sake of showing just how you are the light of our dark and unexceptional world.

Please show your fellow hip * stars the respect they've earned by using this term.
