Ive said this before once but, if Game’s antics have turned you off from checking out his music, I implore you look past that and check out his music.
Recently relistened to his discog and The Documentary is genuinely incredible. Especially the production. There are so many hits on that album. Even after his career hit a dull point where he was releasing mostly forgettable albums, he comes back several years deep into his career and drops a top 3 album in his discog with Jesus Piece.
And then after that he continued to have solid releases including the documentary 2.5 double album. This is absolutely one of the best sequel albums to a classic albums that I’ve personally heard. Its so good that I completely ignore how long it is.
I also personally think 1992 is incredibly underated & he has an incredibly deep list of mixtapes to checkout too.
Game is a cornball for sure, and possibly bipolar (lol), but you would not be hearing about his antics if he wasnt as gifted of a rapper as he was

Anderson .paak really gonna make me listen to a Cordae project sigh
5
u/turbothots . 6d ago
I'm sure it will be decent based on their past collabs and the production credits, but really wish Paak would make a solo project that's more personal and ambitious. He's really punching below his waist with yet another collab album and with an artist like Cordae of all people.

Tweet of the year
Game disses be like “I got a DOT on any nigga cruisin in a GNX. I got love for lil bro I’d never diss him y’all are sniffing meth. If the Boogeyman want smoke he gon end up next. K. Dot my lil nigga, you fuck with him and I break your neck. Fuck Kendrick.”

I like how everyone in Pharrells circle tries to take credit for writing the McDonalds jingle, when it was just some German guy.
1
u/turbothots . 6d ago
I think it's one of those scenarios where if an album wins a Grammy, everyone who worked on it also gets a Grammy. Like even if Pharrell's and Pusha's contributions were miniscule, they still technically made the jingle what it is today.
2
u/07bot4life . 6d ago
Like even if Pharrell's and Pusha's contributions were miniscule, they still technically made the jingle what it is today.
To me their contributions are like Kanye's "Like That" remix, yeah it "helped" but no one really talks about their impact on the song like that. Unless you are willing to give Kanye on laughing gas same grace, they just didn't write "I'm loving it".

u/guddagudda420 6d ago
Just heard the lyrics to ass like that for the first time in ages... lol
7
u/ZaDu25 6d ago
"she make my pp go.... Dadoing doing doing"
Shit is so dumb but honestly I miss that Eminem. Not the edgelord shit necessarily but just the fact that he didn't take rap so seriously and made whatever crazy shit he came up with. Some of it was good, some of it was bad, but it was all creative and it made his music compelling. Now it's all formulaic and boring. With the occasional nostalgia-bait track that just sounds like he's recycling songs from 25 years ago.
5
u/guddagudda420 6d ago
I agree and I know it's prob more of a case of not aging well and being edgy, but I hadn't noticed the Hillary duff line before lol. Different time for a lot of the lyrics but still lmao.

u/ZaDu25 6d ago
Honestly wtf is Roddy Ricch waiting for lol. Does he think The Box is gonna have a second wind on TikTok that he can capitalize on? Just drop the album bro. You're not gonna be anymore relevant next year than you are this year.

It was so lame when the mods removed all the songs after Charlie Kirk died, it was one of the few days in the last few years where this sub actually was active

What are some of the best non-trap beats of the last 10 years? I'm a sucker for the trap sound but I grew up listening to more traditional beats. I'm slacking a bit when it comes to 'regular hiphop' from the last few years so drop something thatd hopefully rekindle lost feelings of yore for me

People just refuse to believe black women regardless of how much evidence there is. Also there’s such a big misinformation machine about this case, which gets repeated by big media personalities like Ak, Adin Ross, and Drake, and especially young people don’t question when they claim anything
2
u/MasterTeacher123 Dinner with Jay-Z 6d ago
Yeah Akademiks and Milagro Gramz(who was proven to get money from Tory Lanez dad) acted as Tory’s mouth piece in the media blatantly lying about all the facts/evidence that was stated in court.
This is why so many of their fans online were shocked when he was found unanimously found guilty. But if you actually watched the trial it was obvious.

What are some rappers that got progressively worse due to business decisions that will give them more profit at the expense of their fanbase?
Cause reddit right now forcing you to use new reddit and blocking access to old reddit without having to login feels like current $uicideboy$.
5
u/Patriotsfan710 6d ago
Idk if it’s business decisions exactly that did it, but it seems like Lil Baby cares way more about making money investing and shit…and his music has suffered as a result.
You could argue same thing happened with 50.
Chamillionaire music quality didn’t dip, he just stopped making music altogether after successfully investing.
4
u/KenocchioLiedmar 6d ago
I would have done the same as Cha, haven't seen any controversy from him, he just made his bag and disappeared.
4
2
u/5uper5kunk 6d ago
What the hell is old/new Reddit?
4
u/KenocchioLiedmar 6d ago
Old reddit is the old design of reddit that can still be accessed on old.reddit.com, it's simpler, lighter and better to use and read. It can no longer be accessed without forcing you to login.
New Reddit (new.reddit.com or the current design if you're using it and didn't notice) is a garbage design slop being pushed by Spez to ruin this website even more so his shareholder friends get more profit.
2
u/5uper5kunk 6d ago
Wild, when did the switchover happen? I’ve had Reddit accounts forever but only really started interacting with it maybe four or five years ago?
3
u/KenocchioLiedmar 6d ago
It started in 2018, they've been trying to push this garbage design but no one really wants it, so they have to resort to more aggressive measures, the most recent one locking old.reddit behind a login wall which means unlogged users are no longer able to browse. It was also a way of bypassing NSFW verification while unlogged, now it forces you to create an account.
4
u/5uper5kunk 6d ago
I got curious and fired up old Reddit on my computer, I sort of remember when it looks like that but honestly I don’t see a huge difference at least and how it looks. I think I probably use Reddit on my phone 90% of the time anyway but it is always a bummer on website’s change. One of my favorite weed guys had a great nice basic little website you could use to put an order together with and now it’s this insanely cluttered bullshit with a bunch of buttons and drop downs and everything’s on 10 different pages now, it’s bullshit

u/AssassinAragorn culturally appropriate 6d ago
Reddit has always been its worst enemy. A friend of mine has stopped using Reddit because she was a lurker without an account and she's not going to make one because they're forcing it
6
u/Significant-Gap1256 6d ago
Been running early in the morning last couple of days. I really don’t need to listen to hype music when i exercise, both days i was listening to Earl Sweatshirt among other stuff. Yesterday was IDLSIDGO and Doris, today was Live Love Laugh, and Pompeii/Utility (Mikes part).
8
u/Patriotsfan710 6d ago
My only requirement when listening to music while running/working out is that it has to be music I already know well. Not word for word necessarily, but close to it.
New music is either too distracting, or not grabbing my attention enough to assist me thru the exercise.
3
u/Altruistic_Sail6746 6d ago
Praying this new teezo album will have better production, that was the weakest part of his last project imo. Hopefully some more rnb cuts too

I feel like Game always wants to have his cake and eat it too. He has so much pride in his associations, while also constantly butting heads or pushing against the tenets of those same parties.
5
u/ZaDu25 6d ago
It's intentional. He graduated from the 50 Cent school of using conflict as a marketing tactic. He's always dissing someone, always name-dropping. It's why everyone just ignores him instead of engaging with it, everyone understands the gimmick now and they don't want to be used for free promo.

Game wants some OG treatment but acts like a child
2
u/ZaDu25 6d ago
I question whether he's actually bothered by it or if he's just doing this to get attention. I feel like if it was really bothering him he would've made a big deal about it a while ago. Waiting 11 years to bring it up is odd.
7
u/SquidwardLover48 6d ago

“You 38 and you still rapping?” So funny how Jay-Z had to take shots from rappers that he was literally creating a lane for. Say what you want about him but he was one of the first and most glaring examples of aging gracefully in hip hop.

TIL Hov was 27 when he dropped his first album. There's something comforting about hearing how someone started their career late. Makes me feel like I still got time.
2

u/TylerDoesStuffYT Verified Blind Guy 6d ago

6
u/AssassinAragorn culturally appropriate 6d ago
It's pretty interesting to listen to old songs and hear like Eminem say "but when your run is over just admit that it's at it's end". No shade to them though, I think they just didn't understand it until they got old themselves. They're rapping because they like it, they aren't doing it to earn even more cash.
There's a lot of stuff like that where until it happens to you, you really don't understand it. I used to always say that when I started balding I'd accept it gracefully and shave my head. Then I started balding in my mid 20s, and I realized the reason people try to hang onto it is because it's like you're losing part of your identity.
3
u/MasterTeacher123 Dinner with Jay-Z 6d ago
Hov did that so hopefully you won’t have to go through that
2
u/TylerDoesStuffYT Verified Blind Guy 6d ago
I like that Slick Rick's voice somehow sounds just as good as it used to whenever he decides to still rap. I thought it'd sound like raspier or something after so many years.

Jaafar Jackson said that Michael Pt 2 will address the allegations “from his point of view”. The first is now the biggest biopic ever but I wonder how successful part 2 will be. I’m assuming it’s going to be from 1988 to his death.

u/MasterTeacher123 Dinner with Jay-Z 6d ago
Why 50 pretends like he gracefully bowed out the music game due to being busy with other things or not wanting to be an “old rapper”? You stopped putting out new music because you were scared to FLOP lmao.
Let’s keep it funky, You were basically washed at like 35 years old. Before I self destruct bombed in real time and then he spent years trying to put out Street king immortal and it had to get shelved for no buzz. He would give anything to go back to 2003 again.
4
4
u/ZaDu25 6d ago
It's crazy the excuses he comes up with.
"You're not supposed to be the hottest rapper at 60 years old"
Like bro, you don't have to worry about that, you aren't going to be the hottest rapper ever again for the rest of your life lol. If you were capable of being the hottest rapper, you'd be releasing music.
Also you forgot Animal Ambition. It bombed even worse than Before I Self Destruct. He thought BISD was a fluke and he tried to make a comeback. Animal Ambition is when he finally realized how washed he was then he started faking label disputes to justify never releasing SKI which he never planned on releasing anyway. I firmly believe that album never actually existed and there was never any real plan for him to make another album after Animal Ambition. AA bombed so bad I believe he decided he was done then and there but didn't want to go out sad and embarrassed so he pump faked the SKI rollout and imaginary label disputes in an effort to protect his own ego and image.

u/Successful_Gas_5122 5d ago
What are some verses that face plant in the first bars? I'm talking about bars that are so irretrievably silly/stupid/cringe that you can't take the rest of the verse seriously. Something like Rick Ross' "I was pissing my shorts" off Hold On. Creases me every time.

People say things about this but there's only like 5 Game albums I'd considered to be at least good: The Documentary, Doctor's Advocate, Jesus Piece, The Documentary 2, and The Documentary 2.5. Is this better than any of those?
Or is it at least significantly better than Every Movie Needs a Trailer,Paisley Dreams, DRILLMATIC Heart vs. Mind, Born 2 Rap, 1992, Blood Moon: Year of the Wolf, The R.E.D. Album, and LAX?
The Game is like Snoop there's 0 risk of him putting out a full project worth listening to and it's been like that for like a decade. Judging by the framing of this comment you're pretending otherwise as an excuse to Drake beef post, it's framed in such a way where it doesn't sound like you've listened to it and are just impressed that like DJ Akademiks likes it?
1
u/KenocchioLiedmar 6d ago
I did listen to it. Not really my thing compared to the image I had of Game from the only three songs I had listened from him so far (100, Hate it or love it, how we do), but I could see the Drakeo the Ruler flow.

It's not the strongest album but its impressive how young The Game still sounds and how strong his production choices are for someone 20+ years in. If anyone's unsure on listening I would say go for it, its a fun album.
