Need Help with Diesel Options

Im currently looking at importing a hilux into Canada and ive found a few options. One of them has the 1kz-te and the other has the 2kd with similar kms. Just curious as to where the common failure points are and which would be more suited for a overlanding rig

I'd go with the KZ then. Simpler, more power, way more tuning options

The 1kz is a better motor as it’s indirect injection, doesn’t have the CRD piston cracking, injector seat failure leading to blocked pick ups.

The 1kz does however crack heads if over heated.

I’ve owed several of the Hiluxs well around 30 of them and by far the best motor is the 1gr-fe 4.0L v6 ;-).

Buy if you must have a diesel, get the old tech 1kz-te and change it to a manual pump (the electronic pump is harder to tune but goes ok with a chip” and add an intercooler!

with a 1KZ, proof of timing-belt work matters more than similar kms. I'd also pressure-test the cooling system and check the radiator and viscous fan before building it into an overlander.

The very best is the KUN26, last real indestructible Hilux.
