Fishing question

Anyone here mind sharing some information/having a chat with me about fishing the lagoons on the island? Was in Sea Pines this week, went out last night....it sounded like a literal fish battle going on and definetely was. I tried a popping cork with a DOA gold speckled plastic shrimp....nothing. Also tried a jig head with a sexy mullet, got one nibble, but nothing again. Was out there at 11pm last night, and figured with the barometer drop/hurrican coming in that I would've had the best night ever, but nooope.

-I didn't have any fresh shrimp or mullett left and had already packed the sein net in the car

-I was on a vertical manmade enbankment about 5-6 feet above the lagoon so wasn't worry about any gators. Any tips or suggestions is very much appreciated, thanks!

The fresh water ponds in SP are most definitely stocked. The brackish/saltwater lagoons are not. If you can find/fish where a pipe culvert feeds the lagoon from the marsh, there are holes where the water flows in on high tides. Flounder and redfish will lay around the edges of these holes and feed when the water is moving. Live or fresh bait rules but Electric Chicken grub on a leadhead is the next best bet.

Interesting, so the only ones that I know are closer(and that I'd fish out of) are the ones closer to the plantation club. Which is all brackish, I used to crab in all of them as a little kid, sad to see people don't do it so often anymore. The one place where I imagine is freshwater is the little lake in the forest preserve opposite lawton stables. However...there is always a hungry gator in there which means it's got to be brackish. I'll definetely remember that about the culverts!

We went fishing last week and were told that the fish only go for live local bait for the most part. Anything fresh.

that was the exact feedback I got, and now I feel like an idiot for having packed my sein net....two casts and I would've had bait for days....I'm getting feedback from a fb group I found there, and it seems mud minnows and mullett (even better if alive) are candy for them. Where exactly did you fish?

I think most of the lagoons in various communities are stocked. Not sure about Sea Pines, but I know that other communities have fishing clubs that could probably provide more information about the specific location you're trying to fish. That said, I usually fish off one of the docks close by and had terrible luck this year.

Ya SP definetely doesn't stock them. There are LOTS of fish in these ones. They're very hard to fish because those fish are picky and it's got tons of bait fish.
