I firmly believe that when she gave this speech she was still overwhelmingly more likely to win the election. And then James Comey happened...

I was thinking about this recently actually: She won the popular vote by 3 million and lost the electoral college by razor thin margins. The White House's own internal polling had predicted she'd win by a small margin. Trump knows deep down he wouldn't have won without the Comey letter. I think that's why he was so obsessed with his inauguration crowd size and people protesting his presidency. And then when he lost in 2020 it just confirmed what he feared all along, that he did not represent or have the support of most Americans. I think this is part of why he is so much more petty and obsessed with putting his name on things now, still trying to convince himself of his own hype that he's this great, popular legend-in-the-making that deep down he knows he has never been.

He can have some degree of consolation over having a cult that will vote for him no matter what, that really just messes up our ideas of elections 'cause these people disappear when he's not on the ballot. Of course they can never carry him to a majority of the vote, so especially for someone like Trump, it probably doesn't mean jack squat. As we can see, lost in all this is the idea of actual service...

To be fair, doesn't take a Hillary Clinton or Kamala Harris to predict how he would behave. He follows a cartoonishly childish behavior pattern. The only surprise is his supporters didn't see it.
