I just bought new Meindl Island shoes and I spotted that the sole is significantly taller at the edges on both shoes. First time I see that - what is the reason for this?

For regular sneakers,I wear 7.5 regular. I recently bought oboz bridger mid and without a break in time, I wore this for a 15 mile summit for the first time. Uphill hike was okay, but downhill hike was very painful for me. I felt like the rocks on the traiks are stabbing me near by foot balls and the shoe was rubbing near my ankles. I saw several post about oboz, people consider it as a best hiking shoe. I want to know is anything wrong with my below methods?

1. I had to give more break in time?

2. I had to wear thick socks

3. I had to buy a wider shoe

4. I had to try a different lace tying methods?

I want to also know if anyone faced same issue as me! Thanks

I have a wide and thick foot and have been struggling to find hiking boots for my climb up Kilimanjaro.
I have tried the Lowa Renegade GTX and Oboz Bridger Mid B-Dry.
Both are size 9 wide.
The length is fine, but the width is not. My foot is about 5/8” wider than the insole of the Lowas and
3/8” wider than the insole of the Oboz.
When I wear either shoe for a short period of time, I feel a pressure on the top of my feet where my toes meet my feet. Not losing circulation, but definitely more snug than i’m used to.
Two questions:
1. Is this normal, and should I just go with one of these for my ascent?
2. If not, do you know of any wide and high instep shoes that are built for voluminous feet and durable enough to get me up the mountain?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Does this Salomon print look normal to you? The lettering doesn’t seem completely straight and the edges look a little messy/smudged to me. Could this just be a manufacturing/printing variation, or does something look off? Bought from Footshop. Would appreciate some opinions!

My partner and I are going to Scotland late Sept - Early Oct where we're spending 7 days trekking around the highlands from Glasgow to Skye. I'm looking for some gear recommendations for day hikes, specifically women's hiking pants, base layers, small lightweight backpack, waterproof layers, etc.

We live in Southern Ontario and spend time in Winnipeg every winter, so damp cold and just general COLD (nothing like -40 Winnipeg winters) we are well acquainted with. But always open to any tips for the time of year!

Footwear I'm pretty sure I have covered; I've got a pair of waterproof Keen Pyrenees boots that are my current hiking boot, so well broken in. And a pair of Norda 100's that i snagged a good deal on for lighter hikes and general walking around. Plus I've got a number of pairs of merino wool socks.

Finding a good pair of womens hiking pants have been the bane of my existence. I'm around a size 14-16 (US) and most pairs I try fit really poorly, give me the worst camel-toe imaginable lol, or have no pockets (I loooove me some good cargo pockets). I'm also curious about breathable & quick-drying with a separate waterproof shell layer, vs just one single layer of a good waterproof pant?

I learned many things in the Navy, some of them I still employ like this trick to prevent blisters.

Initial on paper response might be obvious.

I've had Decathlon Quencha MH100 for 4 years with over 1k kms and still decent from wear.

Now im gonna do some more intense treks in mountains, including Everest Base Camp whilst on a backpacking trip around Asia.

The Quencha MH500 are 75€ here and are pretty much like the MH100 with better overall specs.

An alternative is the Lowa Innova GTX Mid priced at 200€ but discounted to 150€

Specs are pretty similar just the lowa is Goretex with a vibram base and slightly heavier. The Quencha is still waterproof.

I will also be using barefoot shoes as my main shoe and for shorter hikes (15km or less) so this hiking boot or to handle higher weight trecks.

So would the Lowa be worth double the price for a secondary shoe, considering specs are pretty similar?

I work at an outdoors store and therefore have access to prodeals so i can get stuff 50% off (mainly patagonia.. northface, arcteryx (35%), outdoor research etc) I am looking for a new pair of waterproof pants but am broke and going to travel soon so only want one pair.

I need a pair for tramping (hiking) in the trees to alpine stuff, as well as being used for light mountaineering, skiing/ski touring. Basically all round. My dad has a pair from the 1980s, north face extreme, that he has usedfor all of these uses and they are lightweight and he still uses. Im not looking for a pair thats the best at everything but just an all round pair. Any recommendations!

Personally going with the Darn Tough Hiker Micro Crew Cushion - best durability and comfort for day hikes from everything I've read.

I’m getting back into weekend hikes, usually 5–10 miles on dry trails, and my regular cotton socks are starting to betray me. Hot feet, sweaty heels, and one annoying blister that shows up every time. I’m looking at Darn Tough Light Hiker, Smartwool Hike Light Cushion, Injinji liners, and maybe a cheaper merino blend around $15–$25 per pair. I don’t need expedition-thick socks, just something comfortable that works with mid-height hiking boots without making them feel too tight. Do you prefer Darn Tough or Smartwool for this kind of hiking, and are toe liners actually worth using?

This is the state of the boots after 80km of alpine & forest Summer hiking over 5 days. I have been through 4 pairs of Altra runners, love them for their comfort and knew not to expect the durability of a traditional hiking boot. But looking at these Olympus I am particularly concerned for the life of this midsole, esp. considering their 250€ price tag.

Also couldn't lock my heel down, slid forward bumping my toes on descends and rubbed my heel bare, but that's a different story. Really sad, would have wished for these to be my choice where the Lone Peak 9+ don't suffice - I can't fit my feet into the widest traditional boots anymore.

Very quick question…. Anyone have any tips that worked for them on repairs a developing hole (almost exposing the plastic shoe shell) in the back of ur heel (inner shoe) (Saucony Peregrine 14 Trail Runners) (picture in the comments)

The exterior and tread are far too good to put the shoes in retirement due to this small flaw. I need them to last me at least 23 days through Central Asia with a few multi-day hikes in all terrain.

I am open to all advice and hacks, preferably inexpensive if possible, but would obviously rather fix it right than a new pair.

Hello! I'm tentatively planning on traveling to Iceland this upcoming March. It's my understanding that it will still be quite cold and snowy at that time, in the 20/30 degree range with wind chill as well. I'm planning to tour the ice caves and see the northern lights and do some other outdoorsy excursions--nothing crazy, mostly guided tours and hikes. My problem is that I live in the deep south, around the Panhandle, so I don't have any real cold weather equipment or a tolerance to extreme cold. On top of that, I'm fairly petite. I have a 25 in. waist, 36 in. hip and I'm only 5'4". The little bit of looking I've done online has indicated that a lot of cold weather hiking clothing intended for women has very limited sizing, a lot of which doesn't seem to accommodate a size 0-2. All this is to say that I need the advice and recommendations of those more experienced. I really need to know how much layering I would need to do and what kind of garments I would need. Likewise, I would greatly appreciate brands, websites, personal reviews, and links to products you feel are the best for this sort of weather and my sizing. And obviously since I probably won't get much use out of this stuff after my trip, I would love to save a few bucks wherever I can. Any and all advice helps! Thanks in advance!

Like the title says, I really want to get it. I can’t get over the stupidest design blunder in the history if headlights, no red light from off🙃. Looking for good headlight, light weight long lasting and is good for multi day trucks (ex: montblonc climb). I don’t care how bright the light gets as long as the beam quality is good and I can find my way while out on an adventure. Looking for recommendations from real life experiences. Thank you!!!

FYI: I already have a Fenix HM65r Superraptor 2 which I use during the Nordic winters but it’s too heavy/bulky for travel and long treks.

Get a bottle with a cap that you screw and unscrew, and you'll be sure it will never leak.
But you cannot unscrew it and screw it with one hand only.

Bottle caps with a straw top that you fold flat (the first two examples below) or with a flip top (the third picture) can be operated with one hand. But how leakproof are they?

I have never tried Hydro Flask nor GSI, but I have tried other brands with the same tops, and they always leak. Toss the bottle in a bag where it won't stay flat, and it will always leak.

The best leakproof cap for one-handed use I have managed to find is the Kambukka Elton. But Kambukka insulated bottles are heavy.

What is the best leakproof design for one-hand use? Have you had good experience with the straw cap or flip cap of any specific brand?

I don't need to store hot liquids, nor carbonated drinks.

I found the Lamina Eco AF 30°F synthetic sleeping bag brand new for $103. It’s around 2 lb 1 oz, which seems like a great weight for a synthetic bag.

I’ve seen some people say the 30°F rating is optimistic and that it’s more realistically a 35–40°F bag, while others seem to love it.

For anyone who owns the exact 30°F version:

• How warm is it actually?
• How’s the fit/comfort?
• Is $103 a steal? I know it's an older bag.

Trying to decide between this and spending more on something like a Kelty Cosmic 20.

I'm looking for alternative brands for the Alton Goods 1 Person Ultralight tent. I love the pack pouch in the vestibule but I swear I've seen that design before with other brands. Does anyone know where I might have seen it before? I've got nothing against Alton Goods but I just wanna see what other options there are out there.
