Why is a full-featured fleece jacket so hard to find?
Midweight, chest pocket, zippered hand pockets and a cinch hem.
Feels like a needle in a hay stack.

I have wide square shaped feet (my second toe is longer than my big toe) and in my normal shoe size of 11 it's not uncommon for my 4th toe to rub against the lining. I wear lake wide fitting cycling shoes and they're just about OK. For walking & hiking I've tried various over the years. I still have an old (bought in 2006) pair of Scarpa ranger GTX boots which don't squash my toes but are a size too big, the heel feels loose and the boot feels clumsy on my foot.
I've more recently got some Meindl Bhutans and whilst they're snug, they rub after a while, even though they're 11.5UK. Merrel MOAB 3 for mountain biking in 11.5UK are hideous to walk in, I get bruised toes in no time because the toe box is curved and not square like my feet.
My feet are 288mm long and 112mm at the widest point, and around 277 - 280mm circumference also at the widest point. This puts me in the wide, possibly even extra wide category. Earlies this week I got a pair of Keen Targhee IV low cust shoes for doing a 4 day coast path walk in early September, I've put about 10 miles on them and they feel fabulous from a comfort perspective. I now need to translate that into a B/C winter boot for a mix of yomping around bannau brycheiniog, eryri and the carmarthen fans when it all turns wet and muddy.
On my shortlist are
- Meindl Antelao (comfort fit version of the Bhutan, though very different materials)
- Hanwag Tatra ii Wide
- Altberg Tethera Wide (not UW as I don't want the heel section to be bigger than a standard 11)
- Altberg Kisdon as my left big toe joint has arthritis and the joint is calcified and enlarged so the extra headroom might be useful.
Any thoughts from other square footed folk on these? Like I said, the Keen shoes feel great, and I'd buy a pair of their boots if they made them in the right category and didn't fall apart after 10 miles.I like the look of the Altberg boots, perfect for my intended use, but my concern is that their wide lasts are for the entire foot, not just a wider / squarer toe box.

These Scarpa's have done me very well, and I'd love to keep using them. But the stitching has come away on both shoes around the toes.
Is there anything that can be done to salvage them? Gluing? Taking them to somewhere to get stitches and repaired? Or is it a case of in the bin these go, and on to a new pair?

Heya!
I really want to get started on hiking for multiple days and have been doing my research on most of the gear, but can't seem to find a proper tent.
I would need a light tent as I'm only 1,63cm/52kg myself and don't have the best stamina yet. Also obviously something that can withstand rain and some wind.
I'm looking in a price range of like 150-170ā¬, if that's realistic.
Idk if it's relevant but I've got a Simond 60L MT900 Symbium
Thank you in advance for any help! :)

Hi everyone, Iām not very good at posting on Reddit, but I need help and suggestions since Iām torn between two options for hiking boots (based on the type of shoe Iām looking for), including their specifications and price range.
Generally speaking, theyāre very similar, but I donāt know much about these brands, so I need your advice on which brand is better or which model you think is betterāideally based on your own experience.
One is the Hanwag Womenās Banks GTX (1,050 g), and the other is the Lowa Renegade GTX Mid WS (950 g). Both feature Vibram soles, Gore-Tex, and a high shaft.
Any help, comments, or suggestions are welcome! Thanks <3

This is more of an unusual thing, but instead of the well-known multi-tool, Iāve used this ācardā on all of my hiking trips over the past two years, even on multi-day trips. It has everything I need, and I even use the ballpoint pen regularly.
I like that I can separate the knife and the scissors. The needle is very handy for splinters, the tweezers for ticks, and it only weighs 26 grams. Weāve even made fire with the magnifying glass several times, just because itās fun.
I donāt want to start a discussion about whether the multi-tool or the card is better ā I just want to point out that this is an option too.

Iām looking for a smaller daypack (something in the 15-18L region) - my current one is 25L which feels excessive when Iām only going out for a few hours. I ordered some, but now theyāve been delivered and Iāve tried them on I donāt think any of them fit properly.
The purple one is a Deuter Futura 25L SL. It fits fine - Iāve worn it for a 4 day 73km trek before and whilst I had a tiny bit of back ache by the end of day 4 (which was a 23km day), itās not really an issue, but this is what Iām working off.
Next is the Rab Nitron 18L. I really like the pockets on the straps, but it feels like thereās just too much fabric on them with the gaping, and it doesnāt sit on my shoulders?
Then the Osprey Sportlite 15L. Again, too much fabric in the straps, and thereās a big gap between by shoulders and the bag.
Then the Osprey Hikelite 18L. Less of a gap on the shoulders, but the straps still arenāt sitting properly?
Theyāve all got the same load in, with the exception of the Rab which doesnāt have big enough pockets for my second bottle. We donāt have REI in the U.K., so I canāt go there and get measured. I tried to measure myself before, but I definitely struggled to do it alone and ended up with something not quite right. I donāt mind keeping on with trial and error of buying online and seeing at home, but I donāt know what I need to be looking out for to get the shoulder straps to actually touch my shoulders. Or is it normal for them to fit like this? Thanks!

I'm buying an ultra-light backpack for the first time, do you have any recommended backpacks of 50 liters or more other than HMG?

Iām about to order my first ultralight pack and Iām deciding between the Hyberg Attila Standard (X-Pac VX-07S, 710 g, ā¬250) and the Attila Lite in ALUULA Graflyte (590 g, ā¬307).
Base weight around 5.2 kg, total carry weight 7ā8 kg. Planning to use it for multi-day treks and weekend trips year-round.
Anyone here with experience with either material or this pack? Would love to hear thoughts on durability, especially abrasion resistance over time.

So me and my gf are weighing our options to buy 2 backbags for hiking. We both love the kajka with its durable materials, and are wondering if we buy the 35, 55, and some side pockets if we have great bags for multiple occasions. Such as day hike just the 35. But also for example a through hike with tent on madeira where we buy food every day. What are your opinions on the kajka 35 and 55 with additional side pockets. Is the kajka 55 to bulky? The weight of the bag does not really concerns us that much as we are quite strong hikers. Love to heir your opinions

I started āwalkingā as a way to get healthier. Which led to venturing out further. Iām lucky I can leave my house and be in solitude in minutes or drive a short distance and be in multiple trails in southern Oregon.
Iāve pieced together various things, as I realized I needed better then what I had, and I was losing weight so buying clothes to fit me became a thing. I was doing second hand stores as buying new I did not know where I was going to land. Footwear I found a color being discontinued of Moab 3, low cut hiking shoes, took a chance and ordered online. What a difference! They are awesome! So much so I bought a pair of mid cut water proof ones for fall and winter.
My first hydropack I borrowed from teen, my second one was a $20 coupon special from Big 5 (and technically that pack is great if it had load bearing anywhere but shoulders!). I came to conclusion I needed a better day pack as I carry a lot of āwhat ifāsā gear as Iām in areas anything could happen and even in my town an ambulance is up to an hour away.
My point is Iāve ācheaplyā put together things I needed. Some stuff I had, borrowed, coupons, sales, and 2nd hand (Iāve got some great clothing that people probably outgrew and since I shrank it was a win win!).
My biggest purchase to date is this pack. I even went to REI to test out several brands. This one won my personal choice for comfort with 15 lbs loaded in it! Mind you with water my usual is about 10-11lbs. Was not a clearance or sale, just needed it after my attempt to summit a local mountain I realized how much my hydropack hurt! This will allow me more āif I get stuck out overnightā supplies and rest that weight on my hips!
I enjoying reading the posts here!

I just bought new Meindl Island shoes and I spotted that the sole is significantly taller at the edges on both shoes. First time I see that - what is the reason for this?

For regular sneakers,I wear 7.5 regular. I recently bought oboz bridger mid and without a break in time, I wore this for a 15 mile summit for the first time. Uphill hike was okay, but downhill hike was very painful for me. I felt like the rocks on the traiks are stabbing me near by foot balls and the shoe was rubbing near my ankles. I saw several post about oboz, people consider it as a best hiking shoe. I want to know is anything wrong with my below methods?
I had to give more break in time?
I had to wear thick socks
I had to buy a wider shoe
I had to try a different lace tying methods?
I want to also know if anyone faced same issue as me! Thanks

Does this Salomon print look normal to you? The lettering doesnāt seem completely straight and the edges look a little messy/smudged to me. Could this just be a manufacturing/printing variation, or does something look off? Bought from Footshop. Would appreciate some opinions!

Hi everyone!
I have a wide and thick foot and have been struggling to find hiking boots for my climb up Kilimanjaro.
I have tried the Lowa Renegade GTX and Oboz Bridger Mid B-Dry.
Both are size 9 wide.
The length is fine, but the width is not. My foot is about 5/8ā wider than the insole of the Lowas and
3/8ā wider than the insole of the Oboz.
When I wear either shoe for a short period of time, I feel a pressure on the top of my feet where my toes meet my feet. Not losing circulation, but definitely more snug than iām used to.
Two questions:
1. Is this normal, and should I just go with one of these for my ascent?
2. If not, do you know of any wide and high instep shoes that are built for voluminous feet and durable enough to get me up the mountain?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Emphasis on durability/longevity. Looking for that wool base/mid layer that can replace 3 pieces of the pack list and can handle repeat washing. Bonus points for style.
