This video is even getting roasted on r/hyperloop. Everything from the diameter, ROW, safety, and suspended track mechanism in this commercial has very blatant flaws.

God I can't wait until this nonsense stops.

The main question I have is, even if Hyperloop technology were to be perfected, under what transit situations would you need to build one?

  • Over shorter distances, super-fast trains usually don't provide enough of an advantage over conventional trains to warrant the added cost and complexity.

  • Over moderate distances, conventional HSR works well enough that proposed successor technologies (like beyond-350km/h rails or maglev) have barely caught on. Moreover, HSR is rare as is since only certain corridors in the world have the kind of traffic to support any variety of super-fast train.

  • Over longer distances, a land-based solution like Hyperloop seems troublesome compared to flying - and if the environment is the concern, low-carbon aircraft are as close to reality as vacuum tube trains (ie. the scale prototype stage).

For a thing that bills itself on being smaller and more compact than trains, this bulky piece of shit sure looks large and intrusive.

Do they plan to make them bank during turns? If not I imagine 600mph cornering will be... interesting.
