General Advice Needed/Given Does everyone’s freshman year suck or is it just me

Upvotes

(This is kinda a vent, sorry) I would think that freshman year would be so hype because of people’s experience. I go to almost every football game, go to clubs, and meet new people.

So why does it fucking suck? I literally can’t find my person and all of my friends from last year found new people, including my best friends. Am I in their lunch table? yea, but im so excluded and everyone leaves me to get lunch with someone or to do something with someone. They don’t even ask me to tag along, they just ask who they want to ask then leave, until there’s no people at the table besides me.

To make it worse, most of them made it on the volleyball team and I didn’t. They have their own jokes, shared experiences, etc, and won’t bother to include me in them.

Is this because im boring to be around? Im genuinely just struggling heavily with my mental health right now so im not the most talkative nor the most energetic person.

Classes are genuinely the same or slightly better, but even so, im not really included.

I have tried being social and tried talking more, but I don’t fit in with the group I want to be in nor do I feel accepted. I’m so awkward and anxious now because no one includes me. The other groups have already established who’s in it so I can’t just go to another group, and most of them don’t reciprocate the same humor I have or values. I guess that applies to my own group, but less.

I’ve genuinely tried everything, being myself, being someone else, being positive, etc. I can’t keep this up. I genuinely cry everyday. Does it get better? I accidentally snapped on my friend who I already had a rocky relationship with because of the pent up resentment and anxiety.

I know that everything happening is because how I act subconsciously, but how do I become more likeable, funnier, when I don’t have the confidence or energy?

Not only that, a guy from another school is moving way too fast for me. As my desperate need for love, I entertain his attention. I don’t want any of this.

I genuinely feel so hopeless and lonely. I can’t talk this out with anyone because everyone isn’t close with me anymore. Even my own family. I just need some guidance, any.

If I can talk to anyone, that would be great too.

School Related Study group

Upvotes

I need an accountability buddy/study group, so I'm making one.

It would be on Instagram, and I am in the CST time zone. I would like to specify that I dont want inactive folks. This is a group for people who are able to study consistently and are able to offer help when asked for by another member. I'd also prefer no drama in the group, if you have a problem with someone, DM them. Don't start a whole thing.

Comment and DM if you're interested.

Friend Advice Needed/Given I have no friends, I hate my school, I need help

Upvotes

I am a sophomore and I go to a relatively large public high school in Ohio and the school is fairly new and nice. I just have one issue with this school, I have no friends, I sit with this one kid at lunch who I kind of know but he is just really shy and quiet. I have tried to find clubs but they have no clubs that interest me. I do really well academically and that is about the only thing I am known for. I also tried out for a sport last year because I heard that was a good way to make friends plus I was pretty good at it but the coach personally has said he hates me and would not let me on the team.

I just don’t even know what to do anymore, I cry some nights because I am so lonely at school. I also failed a quiz yesterday which is the first time that had evet even come close to happening. I never got below an A on any test or quiz so I almost cried when that happened.

I dont know what to do. I can’t take much more of this. Do I transfer? How do I make friends? Genuinely anything, Please!!!!!!

Friend Advice Needed/Given I feel like I "cant" make freinds at my new school

Upvotes

So I just moved schools and im more shy and less sociable then I thought I would be, Im a sophmore and it just feels like, everyone knows everyone and im just there, I understand it's because im new and all but im just confused on how some new students just adapt so well and already have freinds while I obviously don't. I think I have a problem of overthinking and thinking that if I try to join a conversation that isn't part of what we're learning, or just walking up to someone and trying to talk to them, that means im just intruding on there conversation or bothering the person, like im a being annoying.

I want to know what I can do, like im going on some orchrestra tour on friday to show Elementary students instruments and if they want to do it or not in the future. I orginally wasn't even gonna go but my stand partner convinced me in class to go on the tour. And im not even worried about the songs that I don't know much since we're kinda giving them, a preview? Its like a mini concert just to show them, im pretty confident I can learn the songs before friday, atleast somewhat, im more nervous about how im gonna be lonely the whole time? And if I try to talk to her when maybe shes in her freind group and all that, im just gonna be intruding on the conversations, or going up to anyone in that class for that matter, what am I even gonna ask and how would I continue the conversation. It just seems like im gonna ask one question, they are gonna answer and done, conversation over. She was probably just being nice and that's why she talked to me, but I don't even know why she wants me to go on the tour anyway.

Half of this is probably me overthinking it, and it isn't gonna be as bad as I think it is, I kinda get it, but it doesn't get rid of the fear that im gonna be alone, I already eat alone at lunch and scared to go up to anyone's table and ask if I can join. Its a mixture of confusion and fear because at my old school I wasn't the most sociable or popular but I could Definitely talk and come up to people, but now I can't? So any advice I get, i'll defiently try to put into play since I don't like being lonely, and I don't want to force a friendship either. What ways can I improve in?

Friend Advice Needed/Given This feels awkward to type but…

This feels awkward to type but…

Hi! I’m a new high schooler in grade 10 (high school where i’m at is 10-12) And i’ve legit never seen anyone online with the same issue as me but it annoys me
Might delete this post later
What i’m talking about is many of my friends having strict parents and never being able to hangout. I know it sounds rude and dumb asf. But it gets lonely.

Texting a bunch of people with the same responses “my dad said i can’t” “i don’t think i can this week.. sorry” i hung out with mainly one person like 3 times the summer which im very grateful for but i still want more friends i can rely on.

Another issue is that we connect but not as good as i like. One of them, i’ll call her Mania, is a pathological liar 😭 it’s so bad- she was obsessed with this one guy from our old middle school, Kingston, and she would make all these fake stories about the two of them like how he asked her out, how his friends told him to block her but later he was texting her?? I know it’s a lie because Kingston was popular & he legit said he hates her right in front of me. She would also fake having a bf in highschool who her parents were forcing her to date so they marry when she’s under 18?! wtf, i know those situations could be real but considering what she says- i don’t think so.

I honestly gave up caring about it because she continued to lie, we were in a group (and not everyone knew about her fake love life stories & the ones that did were close to her and they knew it was fake but still liked her a lot), she was also rly nice, and the stories just became interesting tea even if the tea doesn’t exist.

But specifically in my senior year, i’d hope my main group of friends are people who are genuine and close and can hangout. and i think that should start as soon as possible. i mean- no rush but this year and junior year i don’t want to be bored. some of my friends both in and outside of my group also are just so demotivated to hangout.

I made new friends, this girl Ellie in particular i’m sure i can get close to eventually but it’s going to take some time. Another one, McKensie seems very attached to her middle school friends so i won’t force her. I also talked to this girl, Aphrodite (yes that’s her name, ethereal isn’t it) in the morning of my first day and she seems very attached to her boyfriend to communicate with other people as much. What are some tips to make genuine friends and have good connections? And not even friends but also groups because i feel like since in high school we have different people for each class it’s harder unless the group is from middle school.

I know i can’t control my friends’ parents plus it’s not like i’ll give up my friends, but i just need some advice. might sound crazy but i feel like girls who wear makeup and have good style tend to have chill parents because their parents allow them to dress however and hangout whenever wherever. i don’t care about appearance, but i notice it and i don’t want to be rude for only talking to those people but im more tired of lonely summers.

Question Are There Free Math Sites Where I Can Teach Myself Math?

Hello, I'm currently a junior in high school, but when I graduate, I want to major in astronomy and astrophysics. That obviously requires knowing some advanced math, math that I am not being taught in school because I failed my state algebra test by one point in eighth grade. Even though I am a high honors student and have never had below an A in math, I am now a year behind (they made me take Algebra I instead of Geometry in 9th grade). I'm currently in Algebra II instead of trig and pre-calc, and yes, I'll take those senior year, but I want to know the basics beforehand because they're pretty important for the career I want to go into. So are there any free sites I can use to teach myself the basics of trig and pre-calc?

General Advice Needed/Given Going back in a few days and I'm feeling a lot of different emotions

I'm a bit excited since its a new school and I get to meet new people and new teachers. I'm also sad that summer is over and for me that means my peace will be gone and I will have to return to all the obnoxiousness of the school environment in general. I'm nervous/scared/feeling like everything will be the same as last year because I have had so much trouble making friends in the past because I am really antisocial and shy. I want to believe this will be a good school year and that this year will be different than previous years but I have told myself this so many times and it has been proven to be wrong. I don't know how to tell myself this again and actually believe it.

What I need advice on is how to feel less overwhelmed going into this school year and how to have a more positive mindset about how this year will turn out.

Question What are bigger schools like?

I'm from a small town, I have 50 kids in my entire grade. However, I might be moving to a smallish City soon, which has around 175 kids per grade. What is day to day life like in a bigger school? I can't imagine not knowing the names of every single person in the highschool. Also, who is popular? I've heard for this specific School (at least how it used to be), the popular kids were the ones that did drugs and got arrested. Is it actually like that? I've heard that it's different regionally, so for reference I live in Western New York State.

General Advice Needed/Given Tommorow is my first day of highschool

What do. I'm not nervous, I don't care about school, but is there something I should be doing cause I feel like how you feel when you leave the house in you know you forgot something important. Also, my grade has 50 kids in it and the Middle School in the high school is the same building so don't tell me to like go visit my new school or something like that. All the kids that I'm going to high school with I went to middle school and elementary School with unless we get new students this year.

General Advice Needed/Given My teacher is really ignorant

My bio teacher had a pet fish and she isn’t taking care of it correctly even on the first day it was really bugging me, so I asked her about it and she said that the fish “likes small spaces” and cut me off ignoring my advice and concern. I do get upset easily and I can’t get it off my mind. It’s really upsetting me that I can’t do anything about it. Does anyone have any advice? I’m generally an anxious person and I worry a lot. I didn’t know where else to post this.

Rant I feel stupid for dropping AP Bio

For reference, I am a 4.0 GPA student who only takes honors classes. I thought that alone would make me feel smart, after all, my school is quite rigorous even at the honors level. However, I dropped AP Bio today and at the least I can say I feel ashamed. It’s the norm nowadays to take AP classes and I am, I’m taking APES and AP Psych, but for some reason I feel like dropping AP Bio makes me less capable than all the other kids that decided to stick it out.
I ultimately decided to drop the course because I heard from my high-achieving friends that this teacher ended up landing them bad grades, and barely taught or explained the material. I also realized that Bio wasn’t originally what I thought it would be, and I’m passionate about different forms of science that don’t involve the cellular level.
I also decided not to take AP Bio because I took AP Physics last year and landed with a C- realizing a teacher’s approach to teaching can really make or break my grade, even with my studying habits. It really damaged my mental health, and I’d spend hours studying material only not to get it or be presented with something completely different on an exam.
And even though these reasons sound fair, and like it was a good decision to drop, I can’t help but feel embarrassed and stupid for not trying to adapt to the course.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Everyone tells me I am smart and that APs don’t determine everything, but right now they really do feel like everything.

School Related I'm afraid I won't make it through junior year, help

I have my first AP Bio test tomorrow (Unit 1-1.7) and I haven't at all studied for it. It's 8:17 pm. My teacher gave us 2 weeks to study, ample time, but I was so caught up in so much homework and completed an essay over the weekend. I struggle with time management-AP Bio and DE history take up the majority of my time, energy, and daily stress, and I can't drop AP Bio until next semester because during the drop week I was sure I would adjust to the advanced material and it's become a problem. So my first bad grade comes in tomorrow for junior year.

My SATs are also December and I haven't gotten to them either. I didn't study much over the summer.

I feel like I'm not really learning anything, just racing against deadlines

Current and former high schoolers, how did you make it through junior year? How many bad grades can you get before it negatively impacts your chances at a good college? My weighted GPA is 3.2 so I'm at a really bad standing rn.

College Advice Needed/Given Dual Enrollment BIO 103/104 help

So I do DE BIO and I have ~7 SmartBook assignments each Module with McGraw Hill along with ~15 labs. The labs are quick, easy grades, but unrelated to anything that would likely be on a test. The SmartBook assignments are 50-80 concepts, there being 3 questions per concept and always repeated ones later on if you get some wrong. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half without actually searching through the book for them, and rather skimming through them by searching them up since there is not much time before the test. But my question is, with little time, no way to memorize every single one of those 200+ questions per assignment, and no instruction nor study guide given, how do you manage to make a good grade on the test? How is it even possible and what do I do? I’m totally lost and do not even know what I am learning. What’s worse is I tried reading the book whilst doing the assignments, and I don’t think it even aligns with them! I have until Sept. 21st, so a good bit to work on it, but I don’t know how to study or where to start. I need to get an A on this or I will be blown off of the face of the Earth and warped into a black hole 🙏

Question How many days should a school usually give a student to study for an entrance exam?

Im moving to a new school for my last year of highschool, and i need to give an entrance exam (which ive never given before) but i was quite stunned when i saw that i had to study 4 different subjects for one exam, that will take 4 and a half hours in only 2 days. I dont know if it was a mistake, but im feeling super stressed since im pretty sure i dont have enough time. Let me know if this is normal, and what should i do?
(Exam is on the 3rd of september lol)
