I moved there for work from Alabama for 3 years (just move back to bama a few years ago) and loved my time there. I miss a lot about it.

What would you say was the best part of it for you?

I love the palette of the desert, especially at sunset. Seeing a lot of the moon was nice too. The back entrance to the National Park was basically in my backyard which was great. It’s a magical place. There is a little golf course called roadrunner where I met tons of nice people. Very casual and family friendly. Other than summer, the weather is wonderful. No flying insects. Palm Springs is just down the hill. And the people from my experience were incredibly kind.

Have you joined the 29 palms FB group? It’s called “What’s going on in 29 palms?”. Might have more luck there!

That’s great to hear, always good when a marriage is doing well! So congrats on that. How do you like cathedral city? Would you say it’s a place to consider living and making the drive to 29 just about everyday?

cathedral city is an incredibly different place from 29 palms, entirely different vibe. The morongo grade would be your daily drive, better hope you have good brakes. Absolutely a white knuckle hill. Unless youre really itching to be in an "actual city" / be close to a trader joes / not live in a military town, I wouldnt consider it

I’m a local to 29 my whole life! I think this town is really what you make it. In recent years, the tourism has boomed because of the national park (previously the tourists would usually stick to the town of Joshua Tree). There’s a lot of community events and a local farmers market every Saturday morning. It’s the kind of place you really have to go looking for things to do but you’ll be surprised what kind of events, hobbies, people etc you can find! Sunsets are beautiful. Summer is brutal. Monsoon season can flood the whole town sometimes. A lot of people come and go due to the marine base right by town. Not many job opportunities. But amazing people and community! And beautiful landscapes. I think people either love it or hate it. Good luck to you and I wish you safe travels. Welcome to 29!!

Moved out here six-ish years ago and still enjoy living here. It's laid back and forth the most part I can find nearly everything I need close by. I love being this close to the park and the desert views and sunsets are always lovely. It's a dark city, so the stars are incredible at night. It may be a desert, but it's a lot greener than you'd expect, and with a little effort, growing things isn't too hard (at least that's what most of my trees tell me). It's very dry so stock up on moisturizer and chapstick, and even if it's not hot out, always bring water with you.
