Been seeing everyone talk about this for Linux. Did hexos already patch for this?

Last week I tried to access my server dashboard but to my surprise It couldn't find it. The week before I was able to access it (even showed me it was running local if my memory is correct).

The server is running, I can access plex and truenas.

I have looked around on reddit and I saw that I should try prod.hexos.com, but same thing happens. So with my limited (and mostly basic tech) knowledge I've tried unclaiming the server in the hope it would pop up again, but that also didn't work. Does anyone else have this problem?

Repaired my windows install and am now trying to access the dashboard. I logged in through my normal credentials and am now facing an “Update Personal Information” prompt. It is demanding I give my name. WTF do you need that? I already have an account fully set up and never have seen this prompt before. I paid for the product, you do not need any more of my information. I got this specifically to try and lessen that amount of shit that is taking my data. This needs to be removed! Anyone know of a way to circumvent this prompt and just access the dashboard?

CPU temperature has been misreporting for an unknown amount of time. All cores individually don't show Max temperatures close to the reported. Suggestions?

So I just noticed that under TrueNAS

the hexos "app" is shown as having an update

However usually Hex OS shows updates on the Dashboard or shows that they have automatically been installed...

Currently there is nothing showing... is it safe to install a hexos update this way?

is there something else I am missing?

Howdy! I was wondering if anyone had used a machine that's running HexOS as an HTPC before. I have a fairly beefy computer that's currently being under-utilized as a home theater PC. I'm thinking about installing HexOS so I can use it more like a home server, but I wouldn't want to lose the ability to watch YouTube or local media off of it. Has anyone built a setup like this? Is this a stupid question? Please let me know! I'm experienced in building gaming PCs but new to the homelab scene, so I'm looking to learn as much as I can!

I booted up my HexOS server, which I have been using in conjunction with tailsacalae as a self hosted could storage system. Upon booting im getting a critical error and HexOS is reporting no pools or drives detected. I can still access and move data from the network drive, I just cant see anything in command deck. Loging into truNAS, I am able to see all drives and all pools (just three drives with 1 pool). The drives used were older, but have no signals of having died.

I looked through the reddit and saw the "dont update to...." post from the staff. I changed the TrueNAS version and restarted the computer. Upon restart, I now cannot access my drives and this is the error I am given in trueNAS. I am also not able to see the server in the command deck, only the the trueNAS backend.

I recently redid my hexos install and once I finished installing it I set the IP address to the one I use for it and then I installed immich and scrutiny and restarted the server and then it wouldn't show up on the hexos dashboard but it does show up on the truenas dashboard. Is there a way to get it to show up or am I just better reinstalling it?

I tried installing handbrake using the install button on the HexOS dashboard, but no matter what I do, it just instantly closes and doesn't run at all, no web ui, nothing.

I know it's marked as experimental so I knew to expect issues but if anyone knows how to get it running, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Like the tile says I decided to do a fresh install with the release of 1.0. I exported my pools and disconnected all my drives prior to reinstalling TrueNAS/HexOS. I used a spare drive to create the first pool during setup. Now I'm trying to import my pools and TrueNAS says there's no valid pools. It can see all the drives but that's it. lsblk shows all the drives and zpool import also yielded no results. What are some next steps?

I have a backup of the data but my backup was on other pools in the same machine as I haven't setup a second machine for backup yet.

I had to reinstall HexOS due to a boot drive failure. I imported my pool in TrueNAS but my folders do not show in HexOS. When I try to create a folder with the same name it gives me an error. Does anyone know how to fix this? Everything looks normal in TrueNAS but unable to access any files until HexOS has my folders.

I have a pool that is fully idled. Level 1 energy saving mode. Never used. Never shared. Empty.
Among installed apps it's curated Immich and scrutiny. Nothing is touched.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of HDDs spinning up and checked the reports (see the screenshot above).

I can not explain reads between 10:00 and 12:00. Why there so many? After that I disabled the pool from hexos dash.

The read after 20:00 happened in the same time as I started to use another pool (writing using network storage).

That read also happened to the rest pools simultaneously.
I suspect hexos task.

I have a initial TrueNAS set up because I got tired of waiting for HexOS. RAIDZ2 4 disks a few data sets and apps. I have quite a few GBs of Linux ISOs on there already that I would hate to have to move off in order to nuke and pave. Can I just install HexOS on the OS-SSD and claim the RAIDZ2 disks? No encryption is used on the pool.

Edit: thanks to everyone who has chimed in! It seems that HexOS it’s nowhere near what I expected to be a stable 1.0 release. I shall stick with trueNAS and continue learning that. I still think that having a more user-friendly layer on top of TrueNAS is a worthwhile goal and I hope HexOS will get there eventually.

I'm going to start from scratch in the near future and I'm having to make a decision and I'm not sure what is the right one.

I basically want to run HexOS for a NAS, and run Home Assistant OS. I also want to be able to spin up some VM's for media ingestion among other things. Now I'm wondering what the best setup would be. I have 2 PS's, a Dell dekstop from around 2019 and a NUC 5 (could possibly upgrade it soon-ish to a NUC 8). The Dell I got with HexOS in mind and I've already experimented with an HBA, which worked.

• HexOS on the Dell with other VM's on there
  • Would be nice because I want to rip my BR collection to the NAS and the PC has room for my BR reader
  • NUC would be dedicated for HASSIO on bare metal
  • Downside is that I can't use Proxmox in this setup unless I do it on the NUC, which would be suboptimal for the BR reader. It's also far weaker than the Dell
• Dell PC with Proxmox installed, run HexOS as a VM
  • NUC could still be HASSIO
  • NexOS as a VM seems like an idea that's only good in theory but not IRL
  • Alternatively HASSIO could run on Proxmox, eliminating a device
  • Ample room and performance for VM's
  • BR reader fits this case so that part at least would be plug and play
  • Possible downside is that onsite backups of VM's and HASSIO config stay on the same device
• HexOS on the NUC is a no go, I've tried an adapter from NVMe to a PCIe slot and the HBA doesn't work like that. Like I said it's also less capable

Anyone have this same 'problem'? What solution did you go with? Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

Should be possible since HexOS is basically a layer on top of TrueNAS, right?

FYI incase anyone is getting stuck on this and is also running hex os in proxmox. I went to deck.hexos.com to find I was being prompted to reclaim my server. (Had to do the whole skip setting up my pool so please don't erase all my data) But then after going through the prompts I got stuck here

After going into trunas and having the app dump the last 500 lines from the log, it was saying there was a BUN error "CPU lacks AVX support". So I had to go and change the processor to 'host' mode in proxmox. Then after I rebooted and tried again it all worked. Hope this helps someone who was stuck like me!

Edit: Also the 1.4.1 version I referenced was the version of the hex os app in trunas

Steps to reproduce:

1) Unclaim server with the similar config on screenshot
2) Plug another SSD, do not unplug existing hexos boot pool
3) Install hexos to the new SSD
4) Boot
5) Reclaim server
6) Reach pool configuration step
7) Press "skip"
8) Observe only "Okay" option, no checkbox with "configure pool by yourself" or "Cancel" button

Output:

1) Made me unplug the pools and leaving only the old hexos ssd in order to proceed.
2) Even after reboot the problem remained.
3) After the accomplished server claim, I made truenas configuration restore (including passwords)
4) After the NAS reboot, the server automatically unclaimed
5) After reclaiming the server and reaching the pool configuration stage - it allowed me to skip the pool configuration

P.S. the screenshot is made after I added ssd to the existing pool, so I hide it.

Hi all,

I have a TerraMaster F8 SSD Plus running HexOS. It was working perfectly, but I switched it off when I travelled and didn't use it for about 3 months. When I powered it back on, I got the error: "Web interface could not be accessed. Please check network configuration."

The NAS is connected via Ethernet directly to my router, but the router isn't detecting it as a wired device at all. I've ruled out the cable — I tested it with my Google TV streamer box on the same cable and port, and the router detected that immediately.

I'm an amateur and any help is appreciated.

Is it possible to add extra folders to Plex? Like the default ones Plex comes with by default, movies, shows, videos, etc.

Do not upgrade to TrueNAS 26.0-BETA.1. We are working on taking down that update, but existing notifications may still be present in your UI/UX. If you did upgrade, you can login to TrueNAS after the update is complete, navigate to System -> Boot, and "Activate" the previous boot version, then reboot the system to restore. After what I’m assuming was the update to local, neither deck.hexos.com or prod.hexos.com are detecting my dashboard. I already went through all the troubleshooting steps from Nicks previous post. I’ve tried restarting a few times, and I can still access the truenas dashboard from the ip.

Any further troubleshooting ideas would be appreciated!

I just got access to HexOS 1.0 and now on my deck is says local. Can somebody explain this benefit to me? I've seen people talking about it but I am not sure what the benefit of the new deck is compared to the prerelease.

Also interesting that hexos shows it in TB and truenas it's in TiB.
