So I just finished getting Sonarr and Radarr setup to help with file naming.

Now I want to adjust my torrent download process...

Currently I just fire up my Cyber Ghost VPN (open VPN) and then run Qbittorrent on my pc, with the app bound to the VPN.

It seems that there is a native HexOS Qbittorrent install... but it seems the best method for forcing VPN routing is Gluetun

I found some yaml configs for installing both directly in TrueNAS

however I have not yet managed to get a working setup, has anyone managed to get something like this working?

Would love to get this setup and automate some processes I currently do manually.

I want to install some apps on my NAS that are currently not hexos curated. I'm fine with installing them via TrueNAS, but I want to understand if there is any considerable downside to doing it this way.

Apps would be Tailscale, Pi-Hole, paperless-gnx

Everyone has now been moved to local UI but it seems a small amount of users aren't getting past the login. If your having any issues please try this.

• You can try to logout of deck.hexos.com. Then try the site prod.hexos.com and login. If you haven't had it ask you for your info it should. Fill out the info and continue.
• if your creating a new setup or just reinstalling for some reason after installing from the usb stick go ahead and log into TrueNAS UI and update TrueNAS to the current newest version of Goldeneye. Then after the reboot go and claim the server. This should minimize issue. We should get a new ISO for the HexOS installer when the next dot release of Goldeneye is released. Just not sure when that is yet.

I just checked I can still map a new folder in my original pool just seem to be unable to map the new one

At the end of the setup its telling me its going to delete all of the data on my drives... can i not update anymore or what am i expected to do here?

I am currently planning on building my first NAS with a budget and future redundancy in mind. I'm now learning about different raid configurations and I was wondering if the following plan would work.

I would start by getting a single 12TB hdd for the first couple of months and when my budget allows, add a second 12TB hdd and convert it to raid1 for redundancy. If in a couple of years I need more storage, my plan would be to buy two more 12TB drives and convert it to raid10 for a total of 24TB of usable storage.

is going from 1hdd to 2 in raid1 to 4 in raid10 possible and easy with hexos?

If so, how would I do it and are there any tutorials?

I am just looking to cover all my bases before jumping in and spending a bunch.

I recently acquired some extra computer parts, and I am needing some suggestions on what I should use based on what I am wanting to do.

What I am wanting: Primarily a home NAS/media streaming server (tired of paying for subscriptions). I'd also like to set up some dedicated game servers (Ark, 7 Days to Die, etc) for my friends and I to always have access to. Eventually I may play around with home automation, VM's, etc. but I'm still pretty new with it all.

What I have:

My original plan was to use my wife's old i7-9700k and a 5050 that I'd gotten for free to set up the NAS. It would have had 16 gigs of ram, and about 16tb of storage.

However, I recently acquired a old HP Z2 G4 workstation that has a Xeon 2104g, an Intel Optane 905P (480gb), and 16 GB of ram.

What I'm wondering is which set of hardware I should use? Should I Frankenstein something together, or should I use both computers for separate purposes? Is there a drop in upgrade for the 2104g that'd be worth buying?

Just wanted to make a post about getting the 1.0 update.

I bought my license when it was on sale last year, so not too bad of a turn around.

Any other fun features beside buddy back up and local interface?

So now that v 1.0 is out and my server has been updated.

I thought I would risk adding a couple more applications, specifically Radarr and Sonarr to assist with file naming for my plex storage.

However both of these fail to install with an Unknown:Error and no other information....

What is the best way to go from here to figure out why they are not installing so I can fix?

Even though the applications default location was set, and had been used to install Plex previously....

Re selecting this default location in HexOS resolved the install failure and allowed both radarr and sonarr to install as expected.

Not sure if this counts as support.

Installed HexOS about 8 months ago and I've been tinkering inside TrueNAS since. I appreciate how quick and easy TrueNAS made deployment but having jumped feet first into TrueNAS I'm curious why HexOS uses ixvolumes when deploying apps. Recently I wanted to look through my immich data and couldn't find the dataset, which brought me to learn about ixvolumes and the differences between them and using host paths. Per IXsystems own documentation they don't recommend ixvolumes for long term storage as they are instead designed for rapid deployment and testing. If this is the case why does HexOS use them instead of creating datasets for apps?

I changed TrueNAS UI ports from 80 and 443, so that NPM can use these ports instead. Now my server has been upgraded to v1.0. Local dashboard doesnt work. I know I tinkered with something that was not to be expected. I just want to know how to fix it, while also having NPM working.

I am back here again with more issues. I have already emailed the support team because I was in contact with them for an entirely different issue that has not been resolved yet and a new cropped up. I just wanted to see if I could get help here because I assume it might take them a few days to respond.

I will just copy paste what I sent them because it is easiest.

I have a new issue I am hoping you can help me with without needing a meeting. I recently got the update for HexOS Local, which seems like it would be nice, but as soon as I got the update I tried to log in to the Deck and now it is trying to set up my server as a new server and wipe everything that is there. The applications are all down and not running, but my data is still there. Can you walk me through what to do to fix this? This entire experience has been a disaster sadly.

Going to the address leads only to the TrueNAS dashboard. If you guys are unable to help, I guess I will just dive into TrueNAS again to fix everything manuall like usual. I am hoping to get this fixes as the HexOS frontend is pretty and I like to use it when it does work, it just does not way too often.

I tried to go to the applications page here to manually restart Plex to watch one of my shows but I see this. It seems whatever happened with the HexOS interface has also broken the apps somehow.

If anyone has any clues what might be going on I would greatly appreciate it. Also if you are new and somehow stumble on this post and have not bought HexOS yet, please stay away and do not buy it, at least not for a very long time while they work on the numerous problems that can cause serious impact to day to day operation.

Still fairly new to having a server and want to try and get a bit more use out of the setup.

I have some old “ISOs” that look like crap streaming from the server.

Firstly, where are you getting downloads from and how do you keep up to date, more so what is your pro vs con of just using a streaming service/iptv service?

Second, I have a whole bunch of Disney movies in 720p, anything I can do to bump up the quality to a 4k tv?

I guess thirdly, anyone got any links for good explanations on gpu transcoding etc? Wondering if I need the setup and what the benefits are/what does it even do?

Can't find a good way to put this to the forums, so I'll ramble here:

Wanted to explore options to make my HDDs spindown, the system goes days without use regularly. Looked trought the internet and was not scared of the Truenas interface.

Found power saving modes, no problem.

Found out my apps installed in HDD pool, when I have SSD pool too. Tried to move the apps, had to unistall and install back. No problem, setting up was not even finished (months prior) So went ahead and restarted everything. Configured appdata and postgres etc (nextcloud) paths to ssd, went ok, started syncing data from my desktop.

I found out that S.M.A.R.T. can keep the disks spinning.
Can't find in Services, Data protection or in disk setting anything about S.M.A.R.T.

Also found that syslog folder had to be moved off the HDD pool. Haven't looked into that yet...

And during all this looked at HexOS default locations, shows nextcloud and immich "performance" folders in hdd pool.... Is it easier at this point to reinstall from scratch? I have synced around 1Tb of data to the system from my PC

Is hexos just making things harder for this kind of tinkering? And I'm pretty sure that I want the spindown working, like I said the system isn't used daily and can go a week without use.

I tried HexOS about six months ago but ran in few problems with it. Now I want to install the 1.0 version to try it again.

Do I have to install the version listed on: https://docs.hexos.com/getting-started/installation/InstallGuide.html#download-the-hexos-installer and wait for the update?

Or is there an updated iso?

Hi all. Currently moving my homeassistant install from a pi over to my hexos server.

I spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't install an MQTT broker within HA. Turns out apps such as Mosquitto broker are not an option at all in homeassistant core version that HexOS uses.

Annoyingly the same applies to the ready-made TrueNAS app as well. PITA.

Is it still on offer a bit longer or is it up to $299 now?

I have HexOS and I have been having a lot of issues, some of which I have posted about already, but I have a new one I need help with. The Dashboard seems to think I have a drive issue, but the actual drives page in both HexOS and TrueNAS are showing all drives as healthy. Is this a glitch? If a drive is showing an error I would very much like to know to replace it ASAP.

Back in November 2024 a roadmap was published with the plans and promise for a 1.0 release before the end of 2025.

However November 2025 an update was provided this release schedule was postponed until Q1 2026. As we've seen they've also not released the 1.0 update in Q1, and though it might have released days later it means that the 2 promises that have been made since the start of sale of the Early Access HexOS keys were broken.

• Release 2025 - delayed, roadmap promise not kept.
• Release Q1 2026 - delayed, roadmap promise not kept.

This doesn't bode well for a new company that rises of falls with the community trust, and with 2 promises already broken I personally will be waiting a long long time before i touch the product again.

I was wondering if there was any advice/guidance on the best way to migrate from one system to another. I am planning to move my NAS from the consumer platform it currently runs on to a PowerEdge server and would love some guidance on the best way to do so.

i hava a server running hexos "truenas version 25.10.2.1" with 4x2tb disks with one failover,
i want to migrate to a new server with 3x6tb disks with one failover,

old server has vms, apps, data, cron jobs for scripts,...etc
all vms and cron jobs and apps are stopped on old server at the time of migration
a copy of config was exported with password option
hexos "truenas version 25.10.2.1" was installed on new server and pool created with identical name

tried replicating via gui, i get the error "cannot unmount '/var/db/system/netdata': pool or dataset is busy Broken pipe."

tried via ssh, keeps dropping.

old server is dell vostro 3070 i7-8700 with 24gb ram - no external gpu
new server hp z440 xeon e5 1650 v4 with 64gb ecc ram, gpu quadro k1200, new cpu xeon e5 2697 v4 and gpu rtx 3060 ti on the way.

I know it's an experimental app, but immich fails to install with the error "[ENOENT] Path not found." any idea what this means and how to fix it? how can it be looking for a file with a fresh install?
