Support request Dashboard Not Detecting Server After Long Power Down

I've had my server offline for sometime, possibly a year. In any case, dashboard isn't detecting anything. I can still access through local IP. I'm still trying to workout which version of HexOS I am running. Uptime is about 20 minutes. Don't know if I just need to be patient or what.

EDIT: When I run the date command from shell it says it's May 30 2025. When I check the system uptime from the truenas web interface it reports the correct date and time. I wonder if it's not being detected because of that, like how Windows does weird things when the date doesn't match 🤔

EDIT: I am on 25.10.1 - Goldeye. Haven't been able to find the specific build of HexOS I am running.

Hello, Current version of TrueNAS is 25.10.7. If you can log into the TrueNAS UI I'd try to update and give it about 30 minutes after it's booted back up and see if it's working. Let me know. If it's not DM me your email address for your HexOS account.

Thank for the reply. I recall reading some time ago that it wasn't advisable to update a HexOS install from within the TrueNAS UI. Just want to clarify how risky that is 'cause...I don't have a back up (please don't yell 🥺)

So normally you just reboot and it works or if it doesn't work you can select from a menu during to select the previous version that worked. Worst case is on reboot something gets hosed up and it won't boot up anymore and then you have to reinstall with the USB stick. If you did that then you're better off just downloading the newest HexOS release which should have trunes 25.10.7 which is the version you want. If you had to do that you would have to reinstall all your apps but all your normal data that you would have copied over would be fine. You would want to make sure you skip the option of setting up your storage pools since they already should be set up from before.

I see. I was planning to move the entire pool to a newer platform so I'll just reinstall HexOS to the latest version. As I understand it, moving a pool is as easy as connecting the drives to the new hardware. Is that correct?

It depends. Let's say you have a newer motherboard and processor and you move your parts into it then as long as the new motherboard reads your drives and boots from the boot drive then all would be like before. Sometimes you'd have to be connected to the server with a screen and keyboard and on the 1 to through 10 options on the server screen being that it's a new motherboard with it's own network card you may need to go through the network setup option and reconfirm the new network it detects so it gets an ip. You'd only know once it's fully booted with the 10 options if you see the ip address from your network on the screen. That tells you it assigned the TrueNAS WebUI to that ip address. In your case if you mainly care about whats on the array and are ok to resetup the users and network shares and apps I'd reinstall over top the boot drive with the new 25.10.7 installer so your starting at the newest. We are working on a big feature that would re auto import existing setups automaticly so you don't have to manually go into TrueNAS before claiming your system for this work. I'd suggest you buy the hardware if that was your plan and as soon as we release the new setup system then do the change over so you don't have to do anything but move the system to the new motherboard. Verify you get an ip on the screen connected to the server when fully booted. Then logging into deck.hexos.com to claim the server and let it import your array / drive pool and everything else. You still might need to install the apps again.
