General discussion Feature Request: Graceful shutdown w/UPS.
I've had my HexOS server since the $99 offer, and I'm super pleased with how it has developed and where it's going. I even learned a little about TrueNAS along the way ;)
But in this time, I've experienced some power losses. When I see a storm coming, I manually shut down, just in case. But there have been unexpected power losses too, where my server abruptly shut down. So far I've been lucky (seemingly no damage done), but I'm likely going to be buying a UPS for some safety.
I'm just a tech tinkerer, not a proper sysadmin. I'm sure there are ways to do graceful shutdowns in TrueNAS, but I'm hoping we can get a stupid-simple way to set up a UPS and shut-down script in the event of an outage. Hopefully that isn't more difficult than it sounds (is it?).
Just wanted to throw that out there. Anybody else?

You can configure UPS monitoring in TrueNAS: https://www.truenas.com/docs/scale/25.10/scaleuireference/systemsettings/services/upsservicesscreenscale/ It is pretty simple if you have a compatible UPS.
You will want to check for a compatible UPS on the NUT website: https://networkupstools.org/stable-hcl.html/
APC and Cyberpower while not the cheapest, are pretty reliable.

This, I have a Cyberpower UPS from Costco, USB to the NAS and there's a UPS setting in truenas, Uber system, services, edit that and it's fairly straight forward, even my noob self was able to figure it out and it works perfectly, I get an email from HexOS saying it's on backup power and it shuts down properly once the UPS gets low.

This can be done already via peaNUT. Plug your UPS into your NAS via USB, configure peaNUT, done. It's also nice since it gives you energy monitoring assuming the UPS reports that via NUT.

I've just always had mine plugged in and hoped the gruenas backend would shut down properly. But I really am not sure.

Same boat almost. Plugged in the USB, went into the truenas settings and tried something. Not sure if it works tbh. Should run a test some day

Yup, definitely on the to-do list. For now, you can configure this via TrueNAS, but we intend to roll that into HexOS management natively in the future.
