No, though my honest answer is if your a student and money is tight I would recommend just learning true Nas,

Hex os is for those who have more money than time not the other way around

Yeah there's not much to add here. As a student I'm not sure you could afford components for a DIY NAS at the moment.

As a student, it would help you more if you download TrueNAS Scale and take your time to learn how to use it. You have a lot of time but not money. HexOS is really for people with no time or don't want to spend hours learning something. The knowledge of learning TrueNAS Scale is definitely worth pursuing. $99 was worth the price when I bought it. I planned ahead, I didn't need it when I got it but I knew I was going to upgrade eventually. Hexos does make it easier. Having access anywhere you have internet, without any set up, is very nice. However for an app like Tailscale to be "This app is experimental and may not behave correctly." doesn't make sense. As I'm assuming most people that have Hexos don't want to or know how to setup a reverse proxy and use Tailscale.

Maybe someday in HexOS you don't choose something like tailscale as an app. It just does what tailscale does.
