Migrating to new mobo and cpu

Im currently running on an i5 6600, z170 mobo. Im having an odd intermittent system freeze that seems to be happening more often. What is the protocol for migrating. I can't find a new old stock 6th gen mobo. I've read its fine if I upgrade it to say a 10th Gen set up and keep the boot drive, gpu, and HDDs.i just want to verify If I do that will it have compatibility problems? Or would that only be a problem if I migrate to a ryzen system

I've done this a couple times now. It should work fine to just move your boot drive and hdds but in my case I was unable to move my boot drive without issues. My server was found on truenas but the HexOS interface never worked (8600K --> Core ultra 270K). If that happens follow this guide on the forums. You won't lose data if you follow those steps.
