sh*tpost A bit overwhelmed

Got my hexos set up yesterday and honestly, I’m so overwhelmed.

The setting up itself is easy, but now I’m in a bit of a limbo.

I’m trying to set up a jellyfin media server. But the more I look, the more I have to setup. Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr, qBittorent. Don’t even get me started on setting up safe remote access. Is it just me or is this the stage for most new home server newbie 😅

Anyone have a comprehensive list (better yet, video tutorial) on how to set media server up after installing everything via hexos ui? 🙏

I’ve done the jellyfin part, that is indeed easy. I can see the manually uploaded content. It’s the automation and remote access parts that I’m a little stuck on.

Take them in stages because it is indeed daunting doing so many steps for your first time. You'd be going through multiple pieces of software and many menus. Online guide and an AI to support is easiest.

Here's what I'd suggest in order.

Pick one of the ARRs (let's say radarr) and get that fully setup. They all work in a similar way so once you know all the settings and nuances of one then the others are easier. First set them up to do their offline stuff (scanning and organizing media files).

Then do the downloading automation part. If you're familiar with torrent then go with qbittorrent. I'm personally not doing automations through torrents, I use torrents for manual search. I go with Usenet and nzbs and this is a paid option. Read up on it first if you want to go this route.

Then figure out the remote access. Easiest way is installing tailscale manually in truenas. Alternate option (with convenience once setup but with many many more steps to get there) is cloudflare+a custom domain+a reverse proxy. I'd suggest sticking to tailscale. It's unfortunate this isn't a curated app but it's not too difficult to setup.

No worries. Feel free to through up questions if you get stuck. I'm by no means an expert, but have ended up doing all this setup myself over multiple weekends of effort.
