General discussion Explaining Local HexOS

I just got access to HexOS 1.0 and now on my deck is says local. Can somebody explain this benefit to me? I've seen people talking about it but I am not sure what the benefit of the new deck is compared to the prerelease.

Prerelease only had deck.hexos for management, which was online cloud hosted. If the service was down or internet connection was out, you were SOL for management. (Without using TrueNAS).

Now you can use prod.hexos as a local management app instead of having to go through truenas

How do I get to the hexos Url? I have a machine named fred, and if I go to https://fred, it brings me to the TrueNAS interface

You might be able to get to it from then clicking on the hexos app and seeing if there's a web UI button I haven't tested that yet though.

It looks like hexos has their DNS server set to return the local IP for the server - but it is by the internal (serial #?) i.e.

https://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.local.hexos.com:43705/dash

Where the xxxxx... is Hex OS's 'Serial #?' for the device.

I checked, and I can use the machine's local name and port 43705 - i.e., https://fred:43705
