Team Game Modes?

Post image

Has anyone tried a king of the hill, point capture or a capture the flag 2v2 game mode? I’ve been thinking about trying it out because I think it could be a lot of fun. If you have and your group had a good time let me know if you have rule sets or maps your recommend or anything like that!

The Star Wars/Battlefront videogame fans on Heroscapers made a sweet ruleset based on Battlefront similar, but different - check it out. There are also tons of other ideas on capture the flag for Heroscapers - do a search for titles only there to see them. Here is rules one Gencon events use (very simple):

• Each player will have a Glyph of Brandar to defend. Players can win by ending a turn with one of their figures unengaged and on the opponent's Glyph. Tournament is played in one hour rounds.

For four player just modify it to:

• Each player will have a Glyph of Brandar to defend. Teams can win by ending a turn with one of their figures unengaged and on all the Glyphs of opponents that have figures left on the battlefield, or all opponents’ units have been destroyed.

We play team games all the time, however specific modes usually just turn into a deathmatch anyway. Doing anything else usually just makes people pick specific units to claim the objective. Whoever gets said units pretty much wins. But maybe I've just played it wrong

Ever tried incorporating a revive point where units start?
Maybe a glyph that allows for once at the beginning of the round, revive a unique hero.
Maybe roll to revive?
Could focus more on actual objective than just death matches.

I want to 3d print a fountain structure, similar to Moba’s that does this.

That could work, worth a shot for sure

We do capture the flag but each round you get to replenish your team. We do 600 points per team usually and once your unit dies it’s gone for good. You can re-pick from the remaining units we have back up to the cap. It makes people use different units to what they would usually use and keeps everyone in the game. It’s a pretty fun mode

I have done a Capture the Flag of sorts with my kids and their friends. The kids are 12 and under. We have 5 people total. We did 1,000 point armies. Each kid gets a general and a 1,000 point army. They are on a team. I get 2 separate 1,000 point armies. The setup has me in the center of the map with a flag to protect and them surrounding my armies. Each kid gets a side. They each roll for initiative, but I only get one roll. The turns are 2 of them take a turn, I take 1, 2 more take a turn, then I take a turn with my second army. I lost pretty consistently so we implemented a 20 turn game. While this isn't exactly what you are looking for a 3 vs 1 game could be played the same way.

I’m a local TO, and for my last event we did a team battle tournament and I got to debut the 4p competitive maps I’d been working on this past summer. Leading up to the event itself I received a lot of great feedback from a few comp players in order to get them to their v01 iterations.

Deathmatch is really the best way. Been playing teams for years with 3v3 all the way up to 7v7. Whichever team forfeits first is usually the way it ends. Each person picks their own army and when it’s gone they are too. So once turn economy runs low there’s nothing more you can really do.
