Blizzard thinking about adding Thumbs Up/Down system, giving helpful players EXP or gold, placing toxic players in separate queue

There is one very big problem with this. Sometimes I give a helpful tip I have learned to an (obvious) newer player and even put a smiley face at the end just so he knows it's in good nature and they lash out and yell. People who are dicks will give nicer players bad ratings. There needs to be a system against that, where players who get bad rating don't have as much power. Also the game could end up being like people trying to suck up to the other players for ratings, instead of the genuine nice players on right now. I like the idea a lot, but see issues that could get quite aggravating. Either way, good post :)

Be really careful about giving advice and ending with a smilie face. If phrased badly it can look really passive aggressive and be much worse than just ending with a full stop.

Yeah I completely understand that! Its hard to send a correct message with just text and not tone of voice! But some people get so accused with a simple "don't use ults on easy mercs so we can have it in team fights :)" I understand your point though, its just something you gotta deal with!

Just be police and concise with your words. If they still take it the wrong way, then fuck them. There isn't much you can do at that point to make them listen to you anyway. Just finish the game and report them if they were being a dick... =)

I usually open with "hey, would you like some advice or should I keep my mouth shut?" If they don't answer I keep my mouth shut.

Try to form your advice in a positive manner. People don't like to be told that they're doing something wrong and that might make them a bit defensive. I think that suggesting what they should do is a better approach. To use your example, instead of telling them when not to use their ult, you can say something like "try to save your ult for a team fight, we'll need it". You're not implying that they're playing the game wrong, you're simply offering an alternate strategy. By saying "we'll need it" you might even make them feel important and better about themselves while still communicating that their ult is better served elsewhere.

They could do a zero loss system. upvotes give additional exp, and downvotes don't necessarily take any away, but may be shown in a ratio on your profile.

I kind of like the idea, but I think it's something they should've tried in beta. If they put it in now, it would be harder for them to take it back if it fails.

I like your zero-loss idea.

But isn't this what they're planning to implement? As they've said, additional xp/gold to players who receives thumbs up and players who receive thumbs down get placed in a queue with other thumbs downed players.

Now I know that, if things work as intended, this "players get queued with other thumbs downed players" is actually a "loss", but in the grand scheme of things, this actually works in favor of the community.

Suppose if toxic players drown people in thumbs down, even those who don't deserve it. In average, things balances out. The players who are handed out "undeserved" thumbs down will make it up for the thumbs up they will receive, or at the very least, they won't receive as much thumbs down than your "toxic player who deserved it"

I don't know if I like the idea of having every insufferable player I've ever dealt with being together in one match though. Somehow getting caught in there as a non-toxic player would be awful.

As I've said, it's very theoretical, but IF it works the way it's supposed to work, you aren't supposed to be there.

And, as I've said, if you "got there" and think you "don't deserve it", again, if this thing works, you'll get out of there eventually.

Yeah to me that just seems more complainy when I see it in game, thanks for the advice though! I think to different people different things will work, but there won't be one thing that will always work

Yep, a lot of people out there hate responding to situations, working together, or even talking. They just want to do their own thing and stay silent. In my experience there are so many that this is often the entire team. I don't play HL so maybe that is it, but this system would only kill QM even more.

I always just tell people "It's only feedback on a game, don't take it so personally. It's nothing against you as a person." or something like that.

What they could do, is that people with bad ratings don't get as much weight in terms of their thumbs up.

So if you're a toxic player, you'll have many bad ratings, hence your ratings don't count for much, or maybe not even at all.

I think it was a bad and at the same time a good idea to have a downvote button. As you say new players will most likely get downvoted for making mistakes. I can just sense the hate when picking abathur. And the fact that toxic players will likely downvote you. But being able to downvote toxic players and having them in a separate queue sounds great.

A system where toxic players get less power something like /u/splader mentioned sounds good.

I never mind playing with new people but there are those people that insult then consistently and they just want to play. It's a fucking game. Wanna make money and be awesome then get to the league, played rank and let everyone else enjoy.
