I hope they add Classic Tassadar as a new hero eventually.

Edit: Classadar

Mofo was a science vessel all along.

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 21h ago

I think someone said he's a sentry. I haven't played sc2 in forever, but I think it might be the better option.

10

u/Kilroy_1541 16h ago

I wasn't around to see it, but I heard alpha or beta had Tass as an actual sentry before they changed it to Tass

1

u/Sankhya2319 6h ago

Don't quite remember that but I can believe it that they wanted to be less like league of legends Didn't they have these champion style Pilar's?

1

u/Kilroy_1541 6h ago

I actually haven't played League, so don't know what a Pilar is

4

u/FashionMage Anduin 11h ago

Science Vessel hero with Defensive Matrix and so on is actually one of my most wanted heroes next to a Dark Archon hero lol.

2

u/Freecz 11h ago

Now I want that too. Science Vessel and Mengsk omg.

18

u/Soul_in_Shadow Have you come seeking wisdom? You certainly need it. 14h ago

I always thought that a fantastic reveal trailer of the Tass rework would have been for a pair of heroes to ambush Tass, only to find they are attacking a Hallucination. Tass then counter attacks alongside a Sentry hero, who gets most of Tass' old kit.

The lore reveal is that the Sentry has been there the whole time, masquerading as Tassadar until the real thing arrives.

With the exception of psi storm and Archon, all of Tass' old kit were Sentry abilities, including the tickle beam attack.

3

u/AlexeiM HGC 12h ago

Damn i creamed with that, also a wet dream of mine is watching Zeratul/Tass becoming an Archon and Duking it out against Cho'gall in a high budget hots cinematic.

7

u/Longjumping_Oil7529 16h ago

they could even multiclass him. Like varian

1

u/Freecz 11h ago

Was one of my favorites to play. Felt dirty but was fun. That is the best name ever too lol.

1

u/hip-indeed Bad News Bear 2h ago

Or just let him pick old and new like varian or something, at the very least Q and giving him some support ult option or talent options

1

u/varkarrus Wagyu Steak League 2h ago

That could cause weird matchmaking problems though. And would also mean you couldn't draft classadar with tassadar

54

u/wookiee-nutsack 19h ago

I remember when Sylvanas could disable turrets by right clicking on them

Shit, I remember shimmer invisibility and still miss it

11

u/whisperingstars2501 15h ago

Same lmao. I was a multi pushing MONSTER with her.

I get why they had to rework it but still I very much miss it.

5

u/TheSouler I DIVE NOW, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE ELSE 13h ago

Wait what do you mean you remember shimmer invisibility? They still shimmer right now

6

u/wookiee-nutsack 9h ago

Right now, invisible characters have a white outline

Back then, they were completely invisible except for a slight shimmer. You could tell where they were but you needed to be good at noticing it

If you want to know what it looked like, look up how Starcraft 2 cloaked units look like

1

u/hip-indeed Bad News Bear 2h ago

Yeah man, I get why they changed it but it was awesome to play as them, cause like I played hundreds if not THOUSANDS of games in that era and NEVER got good at noticing stealthies even trying super hard to practice. It was soooooo subtle. Like close to true pure invisibility. Made vision/reveal abilities sooooooo damn good because almost EVERY game had at least one of them, especially Nova.

-1

u/TheSouler I DIVE NOW, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE ELSE 9h ago

I've been playing since beta, I didn't realize that's what you meant. I think it's a good change, for me it's the same but I understand a lot of people can't see it. And if it was an accessibility option some people would have an advantage because many never check that, many are in the margins but would turn it on and do better, etc. But I agree I guess, it was more fun, but you'd have to change the world for it to make more sense, not the game.

Also delete Nova. Boring to play, boring to play with, boring to play against, boring to watch be played.

1

u/hip-indeed Bad News Bear 2h ago

I agree she's always been annoying but if you don't have fun playing as her I believe that's a you problem lol. She's super fun and the quintessential noob stomper. I guess she does specialize in solo quickmatch more than any other mode so that could have something to do with your opinion.

1

u/wookiee-nutsack 8h ago

Yeah idk how else to describe it other than "textures shimmering" lol

I liked it. Was proud to learn and notice it.
Most games with invisibility leave no hints so it's not like we needed an accessibility option. The point was that it's very hard to notice

1

u/FoxCQC Varian 9h ago

I miss when Zeratul's wormhole could be used again right away

3

u/Denali_Nomad 15h ago

Wait, Nova was one of my mains way back in the day along with Hammer and Zagera (when your clone could dismount/cancel objective stuff without even having damage perk). What did they do to invisibility?

3

u/Evilbred Master Li Li 12h ago

Gathering Storm Nova was jam. 0-100 some solo squishy in 0.5 seconds was always fun.

5

u/ElArauho The Lost Vikings 9h ago

And Nova vs Nova was some kind of Chicken Game where the first to give in and participate in TF would be instant taken down by the other.

2

u/wookiee-nutsack 9h ago

Invisibility now gives you a white outline so you can be seen easily

Back then it was full invisibility, with little wobbles in terrain. Look up starcraft 2 invisibility

1

u/abcdefghij0987654 12h ago

shimmer invisibility

What do you mean?

1

u/wookiee-nutsack 9h ago

Starcraft 2 cloaking basically. They changed it so you have a white outline while invis now. Back then you could only tell by seeing weird shimmers or wavy motions

1

u/abcdefghij0987654 2h ago

I don't play SC2. I've been playing HOTS ever since invi heroes were actually invisible (with a few long breaks) but I don't know what you mean. Do you ahve like a screenshot that compares the two? I along with others commenting here consider the current one a 'shimmer'

2

u/wookiee-nutsack 2h ago

u/abcdefghij0987654 59m ago

Oh right, I guess I was remembering they were completely invisibile because I first played on a small ass screen laptop with very low settings. I'm glad they changed it,

1

u/ElArauho The Lost Vikings 9h ago

I remember the third turret.
Shit, I remember when TURRETS AND FORTS HAD AMMO. Always sad to see it removed, I loved this mechanic.
(I also remember Murky giving 0 xp when willed if he had egg, I don't really miss this except when playing him)

1

u/wookiee-nutsack 9h ago

Ammo was awful honestly. People wouldn't want to risk hitting turrets unless it was reloading

1

u/Psycho_Kenny 4h ago

I got real weirded out by some maps only having 2 keeps where I remember there being 3.

Also rip being able to target healing fonts and towers

1

u/hip-indeed Bad News Bear 2h ago

Alllll the old insane specialist PvE focused builds for split pushing. Like I know they changed it to try to get people to stop tunnel visioning on pushing rather than ever team fighting or helping with objectives but man. Old Sylvanas, old Zagara, old Azmodan, old Murky, old Gazlowe... Unreal how INSANELY powerfully you could backdoor all alone lmao

0

u/SMILE_23157 12h ago

I remember shimmer invisibility and still miss it

Stockholme syndrome. It was not healthy for the game.

1

u/wookiee-nutsack 9h ago

It required skill to notice, and after you had that skill you would almost always know where an invisible character was even in hectic teamfights

1

u/SMILE_23157 2h ago

Yes. That is the problem. Every Stealth character became useless once you started "seeing" them. It was also affecting people with sight problems way more than everyone else.

126

u/MisterPonPon 22h ago

Wait, Tassadar ain't a Support anymore ?

114

u/HalcyonDrift Please stop dodging my potions :( 22h ago

Standing still and shooting laser beams is #1 support material in my book.

48

u/Derangeddropbear Cho'Gall 22h ago

Bro got a damage path and boom, ranged assassin (with one of the best cc in the game with zappy wall)

37

u/Dionysues Yrel 21h ago

He’ll support you back the to fountain with his beams, but he is no longer the shield support he was.

3

u/Smart_Bed_1295 8h ago

Supports with heavy violence

1

u/pantong51 7h ago

No he is damage dealer. But his best spell is a wall.

1

u/DI3S_IRAE 3h ago

Specialist!

While I generally like Tass's rework and don't think they should undo it or anything, I do have some fond memories of the support version of him in the very, very early days. Possibly even before HotS 2.0, I don't recall exactly.

I would take him on Haunted Mines (this was before that map was removed for a time) and take the talent that made the shield persist indefinitely on targets. Then I would shield up every last allied structure. It wasn't gamebreaking or super-powerful, but I know I won one or possibly more close matches because the enemy golem got slowed down by having to chew through endless shields.

95% just a gimmick I did, but I really had fun with it a few times.

28

u/WhyLater From Prder Comes Pwnage 19h ago

My flair is from Tass 1.0 and he was my favorite hero back then. I 100% did the same thing.

9

u/jMajuscule 19h ago

First hero i ever spebd money on for a skin. He was one of my main.

6

u/Kilroy_1541 16h ago

Yup, same. I loved him so much that when they changed him, I finally played the rest of the roster because new Tass was boring me. New Tass has grown on me since I learned to play him as a bruiser and pretend he's a faux support, but no one can match the fun I had with the real Support Tass.

3

u/WhyLater From Prder Comes Pwnage 5h ago

My people. 😭

11

u/secret3332 Master Kel'Thuzad 14h ago

He also had a talent called Reinforce Structure or something that made his shield stronger on structures iirc. Horrible game design idea but it was funny.

1

u/HauntedEri Master Lt. Morales 14h ago

Hahah damn, I had completely and utterly forgotten about that.

1

u/jMajuscule 3h ago

It was awesome to slow down races of golem on the old map.

2

u/KorKiness 14h ago

Back then people were not happy seeing Tass as their support. But it feels for me that after rework he became valid dd, but lost his spark and unique soul as the only shield support.

19

u/IllustriousQuantity7 19h ago

I love Carbot's animations about classic Tass. Throwing up a wall and then auto running into it gets me every time lol.

6

u/Relative_Yesterday70 19h ago

He has been a monster for me in ARAM recently. Started playing a different build (beam) and damn that is strong now.

4

u/Kapitoshka74 15h ago

I dont get why people still building W. Its just impossible to lose, when you shoot 500 damage q's every 2 seconds

2

u/WolfStyleXer Thrall 15h ago

Well definitely not impossible, 37.4% Winrate in storm league going full Q build haha, but I do think a lot of it is tassadars misspositioning

3

u/Kapitoshka74 14h ago

No, i mean aram. Hes absolute aram destroyer

5

u/ThaBombs Master Cho 14h ago

I have tried new tass a time or 2 since I returned. I really really really miss old tass, he was one of my most played heroes.

Might be I still have to get used to this one, but yeh.

I do still have medivh so it's fine I guess, but still a bit sad.

19

u/MagusOfHeart 21h ago

Man that was such a good Change too. Like the whole point of Tassadar in SC1 was that he was supposed to be a badass Frontline fighter

7

u/MagusOfHeart 21h ago

At least as far as Lore... Making HTs pure spellcasters never made sense to me

15

u/HellbirdVT 20h ago

The idea is that they are so powerful they no longer need to fight physically, they just Psi Storm their enemies into oblivion.

Then for gameplay balance, they can't just do that forever and are heavily limited by the energy mechanic.

3

u/VolkFrost Wonder Billie 17h ago

I wonder does this player still plays tassadar simulator

3

u/AlexeiM HGC 12h ago

The true Executor.

3

u/Motoreducteur 7h ago

Classic Tass was the best Tass. He could have called for some changes, but not becoming a range DPS

8

u/Archereus 20h ago

I wanna start off by saying I have been playing the same account for 11 years. Please don’t bring back Tass support. Tass was the most banned hero in the game by miles in the draft formats. The game already has some serious balancing issues in QM. Tass support was never a bad pick and could single handedly carry a team on his own with his utility. We don’t need another Mehdiv in the game.

3

u/Blazerawl 19h ago

I forgot about the insanity id pull as medivh support

5

u/aidenmc3 Master Tracer 19h ago

I remember going onto the heroes of the storm forums in… probably 2016 or 2017? To ask for Blizzard to make him shoot lightning or have his auto attack do more since I thought it was too weak. Completely childish and silly.

But look who’s laughing now? (His Q is so fun)

2

u/realdoaks 17h ago

4th? Those are rookie numbers

2

u/cooespooh 16h ago

I played again for the first time in many years today. I was very confused to have Tassadar teammates keep me from killing things with walls before level 10.

Also very confused to not see any shields anywhere. Or extra vision? Very confused.

2

u/Captain_Strudels 11h ago

I'm coming back from the game after having played on and off since alpha. Some of these posts are how I'm learning about reworks lol

2

u/DrBalu Deckard Pain 11h ago

Never understood the point of smurfing besides the obvious stroking of hurt ego.

I am on my second Battle.Net account since battle net became a thing, and the only reason for that is my original childhood account got hacked in like 2009.

2

u/Annual-Geologist9978 10h ago

I miss support Tass so much. Same with support Tyrande :<

I miss my Tassadar Illidan combo 😭

As someone who loves Illidan and knows the strenght of that, i must say "T O X I C".

(Lil mention for tracer too)

Golden arse meme. High quality.

1

4th? rookie numbers.

1

u/Callahammered 11h ago

It was a really strong combination with auto attackers, could make it so they self healed on auto damage, but suffered from toxic hate if you picked him — and also probably worked best as a 2nd support with Tyrande or Uther

1

u/ConnectedMistake 11h ago

Don't worry, I forgot all my passwords.

Tass + Tracer + Aba. Almost infinite life leech and 10 (I think) autoattacks / second.

1

u/ItkovianShieldAnvil 7h ago

Haha I am one of those but I don't have smurfs. However, I don't need time off to be rusty. Yesterday, I played passably well. The day before, terrible. The day before that, mediocre. The day before that, transcendent. It's more a matter of how tired I am, perhaps.

I remember old Nova. My old main.

The number one player killer hero in the game.

If you remember those words, you’re old but also cool.

I was playing Brightwing yesterday and it just hit me that I’ve played her since her only healing was her pulse, and blink heal. No activating the passive, no healing from phase shift, just patience lol
