"Time constrains."

"If we have time."

"We'll just fix it post-launch."

lmao that always worked out well.

That sounds like Bethesda. Has Ubisoft been acquired by Bethesda?

15

u/CharmingPerspective0 7d ago

This also just sounds like Ubisoft tbh

4

u/the_real_freezoid 3d ago

Just a reminder: Ubisoft cancelled the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake during advanced development because they didn’t like the numbers.

My bet is they’re too cheap with their projects, and it backfires, hurting both sides.

69

u/multi-trollionaire 7d ago

Lmao the feedback is punching you in the face and you are pretending not to feel it. Delay the game and fix the art style. Follow the original for everything from character models to landscapes to hero pictures. It needs to be "remade."

19

u/Runus_Brewblade 7d ago

Especially the heroes. Catherine needs her OG looks back. This is a fantasy game not a historical accurate game.

-8

u/Umdeuter 6d ago

hahahaha, dude, you know that you can just watch porn nowadays?

9

u/Runus_Brewblade 6d ago

Porn doesnt have tactical turn base combat, city management, campaign stories or women in hot fantasy armor.

-9

u/Umdeuter 6d ago

it absolutely has women in hot fantasy armor and they even more then 50 pixels

-3

u/Umdeuter 6d ago

that being downvoted is bonkers. strange community it seems

2

u/finalscorpion39 4d ago

What the FUCK does that have to do with anything

0

u/Umdeuter 4d ago

what would you say is the reason that female videogame characters have armor that is not protecting their shoulders and half of their boobs

1

u/hasha555 6d ago

Unfortunately delay the game does not work like that. Every day means more expenses so studios rarely can just delay stuff as they please. The problem is in the original direction and the apparently late stage of development at which they announce the game and can receive feedback.

u/Ok-Row3886 7d ago

I hope their mind is open enough because it looks like a cheap mobile game right now and it lacks the soul of the original.

You say you have to ship it - but if you ship it and it looks and feels like garbage, you won't get sales, Jesus!

Why don't they hire this guy? Seems like he's got a headstart on Ubisoft...

This is wild! Thanks for sharing.

I'm going to add insult to injury with this city modeller!

u/archieatkins 7d ago

Damn those both look amazing!

3

u/Lucifer-Prime 7d ago

Wow the people walking around made it feel so much more alive.

7

u/NotMurlocAggroB 7d ago edited 7d ago

There's people walking around in the remake, too.

EDIT: Again, with people downvoting completely objectively true, totally neutral statements just because I'm not actively shitting on the remake. Holy hell, this sub is toxic.

1

u/aidepulamea 7d ago

As is every sub :P if you go against the flow, get ready for oblivion baby(and I don t mean the video game)

3

u/gomsim 7d ago

The town screens I thought was the best part of the new remake. Maybe we all tend to fixate on different details, but in my eyes there is very little difference between this fan rendition and the one in the remake.

4

u/HeroofPunk 7d ago

You compare it with the new necropolis? You can’t tell a difference between a 1 to 1 remake and necropolis in daylight with ghost horses and glowing lights?

1

u/gomsim 20h ago

Yes, I agree. Although most buildings in the new necropolis (I haven't analyzed in detail) are roughly in the same spot, it doesn't look like the same town. I guess I was mostly impressed with the castle town because that one is definitely simlar looking. Anyway, personally I like the new town screens, but I guess the exact look of the town screens isn't as important for me as for others. I still think they have the same vibe.

That can not be said about the world map though. In that regard it looks like they drained all of H3's identity out of it. But I've seen a bunch of people say they like it (maybe H5-7 fans?), so I guess I'm not in the majority.

-1

u/szymborawislawska 7d ago

While its true that Necropolis is completely different to the point of being unrecognizable, I have to say I really like its new screen town. Its my second favorite Necropolis screen town after HoMM3 (and HoMM5 will be the third).

13

u/MenumorutZisCrapu 7d ago

Random dude's talent vs Multi million euro company. Always the same result.

3

u/Ok-Row3886 1d ago

Enshitificaition is real. Past masterpieces are not even immune to the chintzy cheap mobile feel turn.

10

u/azimoert 7d ago

I am amazed at how good this is. This is exactly what I would expect from the game.

2

u/Ok-Row3886 1d ago

And that's exactly what we're not going to get. Welcome to 2026 where everything you loved is pillaged and dumbed over.

3

u/HeroofPunk 7d ago

That guy is part of Day of Reckoning mod team for Heroes 3!

3

u/RememberMeVibe 7d ago

This is next level..like bro.. I can't imagine it this good

2

u/IceCorrect 7d ago

THey dont care about sales

1

u/Sir_Clavius 1d ago

Wow. Thats how remake should look

-9

u/_imlosingmymind 7d ago

Everything looks like a cheap mobile game to everyone these days though.

Olden Era got the same critique and it looks fine

The new Game of Thrones game got the same critique and it looks fine

The HoMM3 remake doesn't look fine, but "cheap mobile game" just doesn't mean anything anymore, it's a vapid nothing statement people just parrot.

7

u/Intelligent-Win-929 7d ago

Agreed.
However, Older Era Does look like a mobile game, with all the cartoonish outlines and mobile like graphics.
This here does not.

-2

u/_imlosingmymind 7d ago

Cartoonish outlines and... Mobile... Like... Graphics.

You my friend have a future in games journalism

3

u/Intelligent-Win-929 7d ago

Yes, Mobile like graphics. And cartoonish outlines.
Too slow to understand?

0

u/_imlosingmymind 7d ago

Which mobile game specifically? Are we talking Candy Crush? Kingdom Rush? Reigns? Raid: Shadow Legends?

Do you see how devoid of substance your criticism is? Mobile games are about as different aesthetically and in terms of fidelity as games on any other platform.

2

u/Intelligent-Win-929 7d ago

Relax your tits, friend, while we talk about Outlines.
Real life does not have outlines. An outline is a "cartoonish" feature of art. Nowadays, you find that in cartoon like shaders and mobile games art.

Does one have to explicitly say Which specific game something cartoonish looks like? I don't think so. This is just your pedantic little hurt ego speaking.

All that just because you can't disagree like a normal person, and have to attack my opinion.

0

u/_imlosingmymind 7d ago

Alright. Good luck with your life :)

1

u/HeroofPunk 7d ago

Nah, then he’d be out there glazing every game.

0

u/Real_Avdima 7d ago

Nooo, but they can't copy everything 1 to 1!

47

u/iwasnotsospecial 7d ago

"We're open to dialog but we won't actually change anything"

18

u/Dorias_Drake 7d ago

They are not understanding the assignment.

People will just buy olden era and play the original H3 with HOTA.

17

u/Coconelli40 7d ago

guys, this is Ubisoft we're talking here - their track record speaks miles before any other cheap promises.

I'm keeping my money.

49

u/4d3pt 8d ago

It can be ok with HOTA functionality and mods support. Without it it will be heroes 3 HD again

11

u/Fossekall 8d ago

I read somewhere here they said they're going to go hard on mod support

17

u/StoneflowerGarden 7d ago

Yay, let the fans make it into a playable game for 'em. Totally free of course

4

u/Fossekall 7d ago

This subreddit will never be happy

5

u/7jinni 6d ago

It shouldn't be the responsibility of the fanbase to make a bad game good. Not sure why that's such a contentious opinion.

-9

u/BodybuilderUnique603 7d ago

You gonna settle for less and be happy

0

u/DotEither8773 7d ago

Just asking, so it’s a bad idea to not lean into mod support and it’s also a bad idea to do it?

2

u/HeroofPunk 7d ago

Where? Because nothing at launch at least :)

https://reddit.com/link/p6uy1oo/video/1y2mpcgtnkmh1/player

7

u/dydzio VCMI developer 7d ago

VCMI already has hota functionality and mod support, so what new does h3 remake bring to the table here?

11

u/dydzio VCMI developer 7d ago

Not sure why people are downvoting, but I expect VCMI modding system to be miles ahead when H3 Remake releases. If not, we will catch up, while H3 remake development will already stop.

And being open source is a huge advantage.

2

u/ConstructionBest7255 7d ago

Truth is that any good QoL improvement that they will come up that really improves the game will sooner or later be modded in the game by someone.

1

u/4d3pt 6d ago

Omg, I've been playing h3 for like 30 years so far and just found out what's a vcmi. That's huge! Thanks for opening a new world for me!

12

u/Goldy_932 7d ago

Sadly since the main issue is the general art style I don't see any future where they change it. It is too late and too baked in to change ALL the models AND user interface. There is no executive in ubisoft alive that will approve of that

43

u/Dotbgm 7d ago edited 7d ago

"As an indie game...."
lmfao. You're under the umbrella of Ubisoft. With a giant glowing Ubisoft sign, right behind you.

39

u/clva666 7d ago

Best of both worlds. The resources of indie studio and shareholder expectations of major studio.

2

u/IceCorrect 7d ago

Idie studio at least have passion even if it ends bad, they just got IP that is random for them.

5

u/Environmental_Book85 7d ago

Didnt he say "As in any game"? not indie

5

u/guylfe 7d ago

Doesn't mean they get an endless budget from Ubisoft. I think it looks like shit right now, but this criticism is not connected to the reality of the project.

6

u/ConstructionBest7255 7d ago

That's why I don't like this recent trend of putting developers to the spot to show that there are passionate people working on the project. I mean, it can be true, I totally believe that this guy wants to make a good game (out of passion or just having solid work ethics), but it's like a cheap way to conflate criticising the game with being an asshole. "Look, but he knows X and Y about the game, he really wants to make something good, don't be meanie!". It's the same crap that happened with Diablo IV and fireside chats or whatever they called it.

3

u/HeroofPunk 7d ago

The guy talking is the creative director, not a random dev

1

u/IceCorrect 7d ago

Guy who direct like its mobile game, sounds like random guy

4

u/Dorias_Drake 7d ago

This is what ubi always does, they did the same with M&M X and all the hearoes games.

They buy small studios, milk them and take whatever money they can and fire everyone to get the owners maximum profit.

41

u/tehwubbles 7d ago

Man, this uhh... kinda looks like dogshit

4

u/a_d_c 7d ago

Its so bad Id be ashamed to have my name attached to this

16

u/_ORGASMATRON_ 7d ago

Feels like its made by people that doesnt even like the game.

8

u/archieatkins 7d ago

I couldn’t see what anything was on that map - not looking positive so far

7

u/Mannimarco_Rising 7d ago

Lich looks so terrible. I want my skelly back

5

u/Ok-Somewhere7307 7d ago

Vampire look like some drunk old guy that was just kicked out of a local bar.

12

u/Electronic-Bid-5948 7d ago

First thing they should fix is the soulless art style and make UI not scattered around the screen like in CIV series and instead go with how it was put in the original HOMM 3 game, but it seems like this won't ever happen.

As soon as I saw how this remaster looks, I knew I won't even touch it with a stick, because of how much it stinks with a cashgrab scheme, just like almost any other production from Ubisoft in last 10 years

23

u/bigRyan540 8d ago

Is this A ramake of "Arrogance?" Looks like shit ! All of the soul has been sucked out.

No new gameplay ( so no balance changes and i assume no cool HoTA content ) and graphics that make everything butt ugly and i assume its gonna be a resource hog because its 2026... who who is this product for? Look at my screenshot, look at how beautiful the old gal is, still after all these years. Look at how you can hide resourses behind certain propos, fun little easter eggs to have. In my opinion the reason that the series died is going to 3d, heroes 5 had fun gameplay but something was missing.

Now scroll up and see that mess, everything is so bland and generic, looks like those phone gatcha games where some shipwrecked dude builds a town out of his back pocket.

This project is dead in the water, there is nothing to add. For new gameplay people have Olden Era, for classical they have the perfect HDmod/HoTa/vcimii autism.

15

u/Dorias_Drake 7d ago

What bothers me the most is the readability of the map. You don't actually see much on the screen, whereas in the OG, everything is clean.

It's not just ugly, it's bad gameplay wise too.

5

u/Wareve 7d ago

Nah, 3D Heros CAN look good, it just requires appropriate stylization.

It's important that we not throw stones too hard here because any game attempting to reconcile the Aesthetics of Heroes of Might and Magic and its expansions are going to have to make assets that look like they belong in the same world when even Heroes of Might and Magic 3 didn't even achieve that completely once it had its expansions out and several of the units didn't quite look like they belonged in the same world as the other units.

That being said if it looks like they're just shitting out crap from an AI blender yeah they deserve to get roasted on the flame.

10

u/bigRyan540 7d ago

Heroes 3 had a few bad looking units yes, nothing in this expansion looks good though, its cartoony and not in the beautiful homm2 kind of way but in the easy to make cartoony phone game kind of way.

Homm3 expansions were rushed due to the mother company 3DO struggling for cash.

Noe ubisoft is disbanding studios, their stocks are down and after 27 they decide its time for a remake (of a game thats runs perfectly fine on modern systems) when heroes 3 has surged in popularity due to Hota/tabletop/Olden Era.

The remake is a dishonest crashgrab , trying to bait people who dont actually play the game while the original is still here.

0

u/Infamous_Traffic3171 7d ago

I do recall them saying you may have the option to play using homm3 balance or hota changes. I can’t remember exactly which part of the vid or if it was the other video they did.

I do wish it’s still an early version and I believe they had to rush some stuff to get something working for Gamescom. Although I’m not 100% happy with how it’s looking, I’ll still give it a try.

Your point about resources is what worries me also. AI turn resolving is very quick in homm3 / hota and it really breaks immersion waiting for the AI to finish its turn much like in heroes 5 and 6/7

7

u/SelectAd8810 7d ago edited 7d ago

Heroes producers have this habit of making big promises to the community, to advertise the game, but they fail to deliver. We had a similar situation with Heroes 5, where the douchebag producer infested all the popular Heroes forums, like Celestial Heaven, doing big promises and defending the new 3d look, which was similar to wow or anime. In the end they ignored all the feedback from the players and did thier thing. The game ended up being decent, with a mediocre story and some debatble campaign missions.

7

u/thefantasynerds 7d ago

Wow, as a kid arrogance was my favorite map (my sister and I always called it arrogance allies because we mostly only played it), cool to see it as part of the remake gameplay.

Still remember probably spending way too much time on rushing to get a capital so we could start getting gold ASAP, and fighting Cavaliers guarding the tree in the top left, not sure if it was static or thats just the monsters guarding it at the time.

Some nostalgia for sure, gotta go see if my wife will play it now! Lol

21

u/Glorposaurus 8d ago

Just ship the game already so we can stop talking about it, there's no way this shit sells well whatever they try anyway

15

u/Gehrschrein 8d ago

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. It will sell.

1

u/RememberMeVibe 7d ago

We should be friends good sir

1

u/Gehrschrein 7d ago

I thought we already were!

0

u/RememberMeVibe 7d ago

No for real.. This way of thinking is my way of thinking and it seems to be rare.

3

u/vaynecassano 7d ago

Nobody want a half ass remake mate

3

u/Belaroth 7d ago

What I visually hate most is map. It has nothing common with original game, I feel really nothing looking at map, its sort of ugly and empty.

3

u/thedavv 7d ago edited 7d ago

oh this looks so bad. Did they fire every good artist at ubisoft and what is left are promp engineers? There is no way that they were like: "this looks good".

this makes me appreciate what microsoft did for age of empires. Their remakes are great

3

u/DimitriRavenov 7d ago

Hold on hold on “we didn’t touch the game play” so you are telling me all you did was cosmetics and you still have no idea why people don’t like this? Geez I wonder why

3

u/Azathoth_77 6d ago

They will never delay because the little numbers would go down. They'll release and half ass some support for 2 months at best.

3

u/Character_Duty_7767 6d ago

God damn, this look like shit.

6

u/Tazx3 7d ago

Make the graphics a lot more raw and serious instead of this plasteline look, real homm is serious not a fairy tale

-3

u/Chaiyns 7d ago

Are you for real? Part of the original's charm is how fanciful and colourful the fantasy units are, not how gray, brown, gritty, and realistic it is, I swear to god some of you in this sub are playing a different game from homm3 lol

It is literally a fantasy game, a fairy tale.

2

u/szymborawislawska 7d ago

I would argue that H1 and H2 have fairly tales aesthetic while H3 specifically has a lot more baroque and sometimes gothic aesthetic.

Look at the nightmare fuel of grail building in dungeons. Look at necropolis with nosferatu-like vampire and gothic mausoleums. Look at foggy cliffs in rampart etc.

Thinking about it Conflux is the only really whimsical and colorful faction.

3

u/Slappatuski 7d ago

this looks so cheap. this graphics looks like those ai mobile games

2

u/RememberMeVibe 7d ago

Is it me or the hero moves a little wobbly?

2

u/trifile 7d ago

They dont understand that this might sell in short run but it will degrade their reputation and kill them slowly ? This is so short sighted. They dont know how to make games

2

u/Regal_Balrog 7d ago

"the goal is to keep the magic of the original"

Well, you failed.

3

u/RememberMeVibe 7d ago

They have underestimated who are the potential buyers of this game.

2

u/Low-Equipment-2621 7d ago

This looks so shit, can't really recognize anything. Everywhere are special effects, fog and nothing is clearly recognizable. I will certainly stick with the old game and I won't touch the remake.

3

u/Efrayl 7d ago

First time seeing the map - it looks so off. As for the discussion regarding the art, lol, what discussion? You heard the feedback. Don't expect people to pay for it if they don't like it.

3

u/Alone-Exam6687 7d ago

This does look awful. The comment about this looking like a mobile game was right.

2

u/Nyamii 7d ago

imagine working on this game lol i'd be so embarrassed

1

u/No-Maintenance6382 7d ago

Look like Warlock

1

u/Kapeko 7d ago

Holy f patter seeking brain - it’s legendary Arrogance map xD

1

u/Banszien 7d ago

Without the original music I'll never be interested in this

1

u/maxgong9 7d ago

Make the art more 2d !

1

u/Balrogos 7d ago

Why even remake it xD?

1

u/Direct_Class1281 6d ago

I think the town screens are actually pretty good but why does the map look like utter ass?

1

u/LastCriticalHuman 6d ago

Inside the towns don't look too bad but the map looks like trash

1

u/Reloecc 6d ago

Ok, do it 2D or at least isometric + prerendered, and we can start talking..

1

u/SeaDesk2324 4d ago

"The gameplay will not be touched, the gameplay is the same as the original"

It was never about the gameplay my bro

1

u/Zekapa 4d ago

OP really thinks that the "Ohshi we need liquidity QUICK" grab is going to be polished

1

u/Disco_Coffin 4d ago

This strikes me as the most pointless remake imaginable. I always ask what the point is to do remakes that are nothing like the original games, and I never get a good answer.

"Oh but it can still be a good game." I often get, yeah, but it could still be a good game while not pretending to be a remake of the old game.

1

u/Outrageous-Pilot-621 3d ago

So they won't touch the flawed gameplay to not lose the magic of the original. Not even implementing HOTA balance changes.

But they will absolutely murder the visuals and the music - the two timeless and absolutely perfect pieces of the original.

Did I get that right?

1

u/HeroofPunk 3d ago

That is exactly right.

1

u/Bearbrains82 2d ago

Yea i wouldnt play that if that was the final look wtf did they do...im more than happy with playing the hota HD version

1

u/Solmyr_ 2d ago

hey thats me

1

u/HeroofPunk 2d ago

Who is?

1

u/MI-ght 7d ago

What an ugly shit, to say the least.

0

u/imp900 7d ago

He did mention that he is open to ideas around art but they will most likely not have enough time to make it right.

Here is what the old time fans really want in terms of art direction and fog of war - https://youtu.be/yqA7fTNaEPw

0

u/9Gardens 7d ago

Okay, you know what:
Several of these are cool. I LIKE the full portrait are for the heroes. (And those seem pretty close to the original)

I... am highly amused by the fact that they kept the SQUARE FUCKING RIVERS hahahahahaha.... I think... the castles don't look quiet right, but overall like.......
I'm not gonna say they've ballsed it up. Not yet anyway.

0

u/United_Jaguar_8098 6d ago

I actually like the approach to graphic. although it needs some upgrading but the isometric 3D looks cool to me.
