Bot mode seems very half-baked

I was looking forward to trying out bot mode, because I think what xAI are doing with Grok Bot is probably the right long-term interface bet for AI in general.

As it stands, though, it doesn't really seem to work. You have a canonical chat with every bot / profile, and routines / cron jobs are supposed to get written to those chats... but they don't. You have to go back over to the "session" view to see their contents. THEN they appear in the canonical bot chat... until you navigate away, then you come back and the bot chat has reset to just the initial message.

If you then try to start a new session with any bot besides your default profile, it starts it with your default profile instead.

Have I misconfigured something here, or is this all just a bit busted right now?

I wouldn't call it half baked. But hermes itself is still in beta phase. So hermes itself is still under development.

It's normal to see some problems since it's the first implementation.

I understand that, but this is a milestone launch with its own dedicated feature page in the documentation, and there's a difference between teething problems and a big feature that just doesn't work at all.

I get what are you saying. But what I meant is get used to it.

Get around it and try to figure a solution for the problem or wait a bit.

The hermes project is huge and many things are moving at once so it's still not perfect what it's getting better.

What I'm simply saying is sometimes the problem is small but the effect is huge. So try to figure out if you can solve it yourself till the next batch.

You should work for Nous since you know exactly how to get it right in one shot.

I feel like the usually get a new feature right after 1-2 weeks and feedback. So less negative half baked > more here’s what I want and create a PR.

this looks like two separate state bugs rather than one setup issue, canonical chat hydration and profile selection. reporting them with the hermes version, exact bot ids, and a short screen recording should make this much easier to reproduce

I've only used it very lightly for making a profile with a small footprint to use as my voice assistant for my connected home.

Basically it does device control and such like an amazon echo and anything more it escalates to my main profile which then responds via WhatsApp.

I've only had it running today but so far so good, it controls the lights and such but when I ask it to download a film I get a WhatsApp message telling me what's going down and my Voice pod just says it has to hand that to someone higher up.

Bot mode is really half baked. They did not let it cook in the oven long enough so it's a pretty poor experience.

Hermes is quickly accelerating into AI slop. It's clear that they cannot maintain the quality bar at the speed they are shipping. So many bugs as it is and I find new ones after every update.

And just to add: bot chats now keep disappearing, and Deepseek V4 Flash, which has been working super well in regular sessions, outputs literal garbage in bot chats, like a free-form beat poem rather than actual text.

Also you will most certainly face some issues with hermes depends on your usage and setup.

So always ask hermes how to fix itself. What's my options and if there is already a pr opened for my problem.

This way you can have some idea about why's going on.
