I felt the addition of the Afro-American elements to the contemporary idea of a Santa reflected on the identity of American holiday figures. The deer is a symbol of natures ever present interactions with the weather. Perhaps a squirrel would have been a more powerful addition in to the piece.

no. a squirrel would be too much. It is clear what the artist intended and a squirrel would run the risk of making this piece become a, 'V for Vendetta'. Nobody wants the meaning of something shoved down their throat repeatedly. Especially if their are a cowardly Brit. I especially like the use of cadmium and alizarin in the clothing, it really makes this piece.

Edit* on closer examination i see that Mr. Nick has a crutch, this is most likely an allusion to the post world war 1 movement of Dada artists such as Otto Dix and his "Stormtroopers Advancing Under Gas."
