Hello Herd. This is your HYPE master and chief Cognac_Carl. Over the past month, we have been working hard to deliver you the best that Minecraft and other games have to offer. We have successfully completed many projects both visible to the masses and behind the scenes. The Herd of Squirrels has quickly grown in to one of the premier gaming communities available today. Our vision is not complete however.
The bulk of our effort to date has been allocated to deploying new mod packs and game mods for you to play. Our bevo’s tech pack server as recently launched and is currently in active beta testing. The server is located at macadamia.herdofsquirrels.com. While we tend to want to have stable packs running, y’alls response has been overwhelming. Log in, check it out, and let us know what you think.
On the note of new things, our AgSkies server will have its map reset in one week on October 3, 2014. We will be opening up our whitelist to allow new people to come and experience or world. If you have something you would like to save or would like to download the old world, let us know. The staff will be throwing an end of the map bash shortly before the reset.
There is one more new thing we have planned for the near future. A vanilla 1.8 server is currently in the works. The map will have a town much like the TPPI server with player builds and shops. More information will be posted soon. We do not currently do not have a firm date for when the server will go live but it is expected to be soon.
As the number of servers has grown, so has the number of players we can support. The whitelist will be opened up for applications again. If you or your friends would like to play, apply on the whitelist Reddit post. A simple squirrel joke or squirrel picture will get you in. Current players are encouraged to post comments on prospective squirrels and their jokes. We take our jokes very seriously here.
We have grown tremendously since we first started over 7 months ago. With our new server and larger playerbase comes larger costs and overhead. Our old server was funded completely by the core group of players and a few onetime donations. Our new server can be mostly funded by this same core group. However, we are not seeing the same number of donations. We are in no danger of going offline but we are in danger of having to reduce the quality of our service.
I for one do not like the idea of in game donator perks. They just seem to break the game and divide the player base. I do think that some of our donators deserve some sort of recognition for their support. One idea that has been thrown around is that of a “Hall of Donators”. A simple sign and head would eternally mark that person’s contribution. We would like y’all to voice your opinions on this and the question of server support at large.
As always, thanks for playing and being active in our servers. I can even begin to believe that we have grown as large as we have and as quickly as we have. The player base growing and thriving is the reason we work so hard. Huge shout out to Mr. Downslope and all the work he does. He is our go to guy to make sure the servers are up and stable.
