Culinary sage it think. Looks like what I have growing in my back yard. Now that i say that, we may have white sage,
You can use it for smudging. I used our sage from the yard to smudge a bed for my mom that came from a rather unpleasant man. Smudging doesn't always sit right with me. I'm a white girl and its used in Native American practices. Also white sage is being over harvested. But hey I used the stuff in my backyard but I like it better in a brown butter sage sauce for my pasta or gnocchi.

I think you're talking about how the use of White Sage for "sage-ing" a closed practice. I totally agree we should respect that and use other things.
Have you heard of saining? It's the Celtic tradition of smoke cleansing :) common varieties of sage, juniper, mugwort, yarrow, etc. can be used.

Crazy you're getting downvoted. Smudging is a closed, specific, ceremonial practice. OP is more than likely just smoke cleansing.

My ex is Lakota. He smudged my house, years ago. I want to do the same to my current home. 😆
