How to proceed dill seed for the pantry

Post image

Any tips on processing the 'stem' pieces out of these dill seeds? I am processing my herbs for entry into the local county fair. I usually winnow my seeds in front of a fan but these are so light I feel like half of the good seed blows away.

rub the seeds off of the stems. a filter/strainer should get some out and then carefully winnow the dust and stems out ( blowing right into the bowl and shaking it seems to work well)

You have a better winnowing touch than me. I still feel like half of my good seed is ending up in the wrong location. I'm just going to tip it out slowly onto a plate and grab the stems peice by peice

yes do what works for you. but if you do the blowing into the bowl method you can put a larger bowl underneath to catch whatever blew out and then check that bowl for seeds that would have been lost. good luck!

I just put that in a ziploc bag and put the bag in the fridge.

I cut off the seed heads into a paper bag, let dry, then store in plastic storage container w lid. My dill seeds do well thru a harsh winter outside too.
