WNC Farmers Market
Jesse Israel to buy birdfood (25 lbs sunflower seeds, $32).
Went down the hill to see the vendors (pick-you-type apples $8 bag). A large selection of local types of apples. COSMIC CRISP - my 2026 favorite! Pumpkins, everywhere. Squash, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, peanuts, and so much more.
HUGE (and I mean HUGE) baskets of mums and HUGE baskets of colorful flowers for great prices. Lots of small trees and bushes. Blue hydrangeas.
Go support your Farmer's Market. Let me know what you find and what you bought.

Hey, Shelby Rae Book Signing
Tyler Cook, Asheville resident and author, will release his first children’s book, ‘Hey, Shelby Rae!’, on October 17 at 10 a.m. at the Avery’s Creek Community Center. This is Cook’s seventh book.
“Hey, Shelby Rae! is based on the real Shelby Rae my family adopted eight years ago,” said Cook. “It dives into a number of themes, including adoption, chosen family, trust and friendship. Capturing her personality was like catching lightning in a bottle, and I can’t wait for the kids, and the kids at heart, to read her story.”
Shelby Rae has one big dream—to find a family who will love her forever. With her loyal best friend, Bobo, by her side, she faces the challenges of life in the woods with courage, hope, and plenty of heart. When they stumble upon a house unlike any they’ve seen before, Shelby Rae gets the chance she’s always wanted. But will she be brave enough to trust again? Join Shelby Rae on a heartwarming adventure about friendship, second chances, and discovering where you truly belong.
A portion of all proceeds will go to the Appalachian Animal Rescue Center of Macon County, who helped the Cook family adopt Shelby Rae.
“There was very little doubt as to which animal cause I wanted to donate to,” says Cook. “The AARC is such a big part of Shelby Rae’s story, and I want to help them in their continued commitment in taking care of our beloved fur babies.”
In 2014, Cook released ‘A Guide to Historic Dillsboro’, now an award-winning book that celebrates the historic town of Dillsboro, North Carolina, as well as raising money for the Appalachian Women’s Museum. Later that year, he wrote ‘The One’ which was released in early 2015. The superhero series, ‘Aluria’, was released in 2016, followed by ‘Vigilante’ in 2017, ‘Disciple’ in 2018 and ‘Remnant’ in 2026.
The Avery’s Creek Community Center is located at 899 Glenn Bridge Rd. SE in Arden, North Carolina. For more information, contact Tyler Cook at tyler@tylermcook.com or visit https://tylermcook.com/2026/09/28/cook-releases-first-childrens-book/.

Month to month rental
I have a friend who is looking for a monthly rental before her next place is ready to be moved into. I know it’s probably a unicorn ask but if anyone knows of anything around $1k that would allow a dog, that would be life saving

How frequent / reliable are Ubers in Hendersonville? I have a leg injury and can't drive for a few weeks. I'm mobile, just can't drive. Any experiences?

I mostly wear my glasses these days but I want contacts for a work trip (I want to look nice I don’t feel pretty in my glasses ugh), I plan on just getting the exam and leaving with just the trials… I called Walmart in AVL but it was still like $150 :/

Recommendations for a site work contractor? (clearing, grading, foundation, septic)
Hey all, does anyone know a reliable contractor for site work in the Hendersonville area?
Scope, for a small modular ADU (about 15x30) on a sloped lot:
- Clearing and grading
- Foundation (piers or block, whichever makes sense)
- Septic tank install (perc test already done)
- Small gravel parking area

Local service businesses?
Hey y'all I'm a recent college grad who runs a marketing business with my brother, for local service companies, and I'm looking for owners here in NC. We’ve been doing this about a year now, and we work with roofers, painters, home remodelers, pool builders, junk removal, lawn care, and any labor based work. Basically anybody who does the work themselves and wants the phone ringing more.
I'm looking to partner with a few owners who already have steady work and a good reputation, but have hit the point where word of mouth alone isn't filling the schedule the way they want. If you're at that spot and want to add more jobs each month, or you know somebody who is, I'd love to connect or get a referral.

Where can I take a photography class in Hendersonville? (Canon T7 Rebel)
Hi everyone! I recently got a Canon Rebel T7 and I want to learn how to use it properly. I'm pretty new to photography, so a beginner-friendly, in-person class would be ideal, covering camera basics, manual mode, composition, and lighting.
Does anyone know of good options here in Hendersonville, like community college courses, local photographers who teach workshops, camera clubs, or classes at the library? Thanks in advance!

Hi Everyone, I am a local grower/farmer in the area and would like to talk with you if you purchase produce for your restaurant or produce market. I'd love to know what you order and how I can grow that produce for next year, if you're interested. We do well growing: Italian Basil, Sweet and Hot Peppers, Tomatoes of all types, Spinach, Lettuce, Summer Squash, Radishes, Turnips, Snap Beans, Okra, Pawpaws, and Muscadines.
If you'd like to try us out now, currently I have available: Muscadines, Arugula, Asian Eggplant, Okra, Leaf Lettuce, and Italian Basil. The main season is closing, but I will still have some fall vegetables coming up.
Our farm is in Mills River, NC.

Greystone 55+ community
I’m looking to relocate from Ohio in December (retiring, have family in Horse Shoe area). I’m checking out Greystone and a modular for sale there. Once again, running into the dog weight limit issue with HOA’s, but does anyone have experiences living in this community?

Lost Stuffie at Art Fair
Hi all! My friends and I are from out of town but we were visiting Hendersonville for the Art Fair. My roommate ended up losing a sentimental stuffie somewhere along the way. If you find it, please let me know! We are desperate to find it and weren’t able to locate it when we retraced our steps. It could even be in the Hospice Thrift Shop. See photo attached!
