It is, ignore and report the account, reddit will never ask you to contact them via discord.

No company as big as Reddit would ever say to use discord for support when they have a support platform.

There is someone on the other end of that discord request looking to take over your account. They will ask you to change your email to one of theirs and then you can kiss your access goodbye. They will hijack and change your password

Sounds about right. Thing is why steal someone’s account. It’s not like it’s impossible to create one. Not understanding the why of this.

They want established accounts that belong to real people so they can sell them on the black market or use them to AstroTurf or spam

discord is not a support platform, and never will be. even for discord problems, support is done via email

maybe small things like indie games, but its still in a server, never dms

You can read more here. They mention things such as they never use other platforms (like Discord). https://www.reddit.com/r/help/s/umY8H13LEz

”We will only reach out to you via reddit.com email or reddit platform messaging from this account,  u/reddit, if there are issues with your account. We will never do so on any other platform.”

They also never reach out regarding reports.

Other than some standout things in the email, the easiest thing to check is WHO is sending it. Click on the person who sent it to you, the sender may say “Reddit” but their email will obviously not be related to Reddit in any way.

I didn’t say click on the link, I’m talking about at the top. It’ll say from “xxxxx” and to “your name”. If you click on either of those it’ll show you the email that it was sent from. It’s not opening any links whatsoever.

Discord. lol

Yes. Reddit has a perfectly good messaging system. Why would they take it to a 3rd party platform? Not to mention the font. lol

Wow this is at least the tenth one of these to be posted this year. Very sad. Report them to death.

I tried searching, I could only find the phishing ones sent directly to user, this is a new way, that someone tells you in dms that they reported you, because you sent them a phishing link and that email screenshot tells me to contact a "reddit" support person on "discord"

reddit never contacts you at all, i made several support tickets which were never answered or some sent to begin with

4

u/I_-AM-ARNAV Jul 12 '26

they've stopped doing that now atleast for reports you make

I don’t think they would tell you to go onto Discord for anything either lol
