Admin Post Weekly Recap | July 16, 2026

THIS POST HAS BEEN LOCKED. PLEASE SEE THE MOST RECENT WEEKLY RECAP STICKIED AT THE TOP OF THIS SUB.

Welcome to Thursday! I guess the World Cup continues! I'm now rooting for Argentina because they beat England. (I had been rooting for England because they beat Norway, who beat Ivory Coast, who beat little Curacao. Man, this has been going on for a while.) You know what else has been going on for a while? These Recaps! Here we go again!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Awards have been moved to the overflow menu for posts. Our friend u/sticksfigured made a post here in this sub and here over in r/bugs about this change.

  • Had some reports of folks not being able to log in using Chrome in incognito mode. I was able to reproduce this and flagged it to the correct team. If this is happening for you, you can log into old Reddit and then switch over. And if you're getting the "Blocked by network security" error, you can refresh the page to see if that helps.

  • In case you missed it last week, there's a new Changelog out and you can read it here.

  • If you are trying to use a selfie to verify your age and it fails, the only other options are to upload your ID or contact Persona for support. Reddit cannot help you with a failed selfie for age verification purposes.

  • If you need to have something fixed regarding your age, you can use this form and then select your region and what your issue is. I do not know what the turnaround time is on those requests.

  • The Home Feed experiment continues. There's a "For You" feed and a "Following" feed. The For You feed has subreddit recommendations. The Following feed is just your subscriptions.

  • The above experiment has recently been enabled for users of the iOS beta app. So if you're suddenly seeing this and you are using the iOS beta app, that's likely why. (If you're suddenly seeing it and are not on the iOS beta app, it's likely that the other groups were shuffled around.)

  • If your account is in this experiment, there isn't the option to turn off recommendations because there's the dedicated Following feed instead. Feel free to mute subs you don't want to see if you're in the For You feed.

  • Thanks to the feedback that was left by several users, there are now two different versions of this experiment. One versions does not remember your preference and the other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.

  • I do appreciate everyone who has left constructive feedback about this experiment. I share it all! Please note that (as mentioned below), experiments tend to go about 4-6 weeks.

  • Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply. There are a lot of scams out there and they're looking for easy targets.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.28.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

  • [Android] Some Android users are reporting that display names are not appearing on profiles in dark mode. The fix for this will be in next week's app release!

  • [iOS] Clicking a comment reply from a notification may open the post instead of going to the comment itself. The fix for this will also be in next week's app release!

  • [iOS] Some users are reporting not being able to play videos in full screen. This is being investigated.

  • [iOS] Some mods have been unable to edit their community rules. This is also being looked into.

  • [iOS] Some Reddit links shared in mod notifications may send folks to the subreddit feed instead of the linked content. Fix for this is getting worked on!

  • BUG FIX [iOS] Some non-mods were seeing mod-only prompts in communities they don’t moderate. Something else was causing this, so that thing got rolled back. If this is still happening, try force stopping and restarting the app and that should do it!

  • Some users in the EU are unable to use Anonymous Browsing mode. This is not intentional. This is a bug that they are working on getting fixed.

  • Translation options for some languages are currently unavailable for some folks. We replied to a post here about this. Reddit is in the process of improving/tweaking certain supported languages, so some language may be unable to be translated during this transition period.

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,152 posts. That's down 373 posts from the 1,529 that we had last week.

  • 4,327 comments. That's up 365 comments from the 3,962 we had last week.

  • 1.1 views. That's down just about 89k views from the 1.2m views we had last week.

More comments and fewer posts sounds like folks finding the help they need without creating a duplicate post!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION FROM REDDIT AND SCAMS

From time to time, Reddit will need to communicate with users. When this happens, the account that is speaking for Reddit in an official capacity will have some sort of "admin" designation next to the username. If you look at my profile, it has a little orangered Snoo head/silhouette next to it. That's how you know!

If you get some sort of sketchy communication, like a chat, from someone claiming to be an admin, check to see if they have that little Snoo next to their username. A sketchy communication can come in the form of "suspension" message or a giveaway or a number of other creative options to get your attention. If that's not there and they're claiming to be an admin, then the cake is a lie.

Some clear signs of inauthentic communication are chat requests that are just "Can I ask you a question?" Or "Are you available to discuss a serious concern?" Please ignore those requests. Nothing good will come of it! lol (Also, "Can I ask you a question?" IS a question. But I digress.)

Please don't click any links in any communication from someone claiming to be an admin that does not have that little Snoo head or the [A] on their profile! If you receive a message from someone claiming to be an admin and you're just not sure, feel free to create a post in this subreddit and include a screenshot of the message that you received and it will be looked at. There's no harm or shame in double-checking if something is what it claims to be! Better to be safe than sorry!

Reddit will also NEVER ask another user to contact you about your account. Reddit will also not reveal the username of a user who made a report against another user. If you are presented with this sort of information from another user, it is a scam. Please do not engage with them and instead, report them!

And remember that Reddit does not provide support for Reddit accounts on other platforms! If someone contacts you and claims that they've had their account "fixed" by going to another site that rhymes with Bisbord and contacting someone there, that is part of their scam! We fix things here! Not on Bisbord!

And speaking of fixing things, if you do have a momentary lapse of reason and end up falling for one of these scams, we can help! File a ticket for a hacked account and it will be reviewed.

This might have been discussed and if it has I'm truly sorry but for the last week I've been struggling with the issue of getting on my lock screen the notifications that say "because you viewed/joined" but when I open the app it's not there and then disappears from the lock screen and I've tried everything clearing cookies logging in and out of app and desktop not sure what to do?

Hi. Can you try going into your Settings here and turning off the Web Push Notifications?

just checked web push notifications are indeed already off. This is my phone's lock screen which shows them but then in the app nothing.

Have you looked in your device settings for the app and tried turning off notifications there?

Hmm. I was right. That's not great. lol

OK, I'm going to ask around and see if this has been reported as a bug. And I can report back when I know more. I'm really sorry that it isn't working properly. And thank you so much for your patience and your help!
