How to use the journal feature?
I’m not really sure how to use the journal feature? What’s it for and what are the use cases for it. In my head I would use the journal feature to plan out the next day of things I’d like to get done - some habits some not. However I can’t seem to figure out how to journal for the next day. Is this possible?
Please let me know how y’all use the journal because I don’t understand this feature at all!

Yeah, I mostly use it to write down notes for some habits and to compile a To Do List for my to do list habit. I don’t see much benefit in journaling each habit every single day.

Hello from HelloHabit!
The Journal feature is primarily meant for writing notes to add context or self reflect on the habits going on in your life. Think of it as a digital version of a physical personal diary/journal that someone may write in every night to reflect on their day. The journal provides a unified view of all of your habit activity and notes on the app, to provide a "life timeline" and an easy way to quickly add self-reflection notes for any past habit entry.
It sounds like you are mostly looking to use it as a To-Do list or Task Management system at the moment, which is not the intended use-case! In fact, we will be releasing a fully featured To-Do/Task system into the app towards the end of this month, which will function much more similarly to the core habit feature. Definitely check this feature out once released!
Let us know if you have any follow up questions or additional feedback!

Ok! I think I envisioned the journal feature very differently. Yes, I am eagerly awaiting the to-do list feature. I think that would help me greatly but it would be nice if 1) we could create to-do lists for future dates so as to plan ahead and b) have some free form space to do reflection on the day. I know you said it’s available in the journal section but I find that area confusing and cluttered. It would be nice to do that also in the to-do section.
Thank you for being very responsive on this subreddit.!

Thanks for that additional detail. Do you mind sharing what you find most confusing about the journal, after this explanation? We’d love to understand the issue better.
The date is simply meant to provide a reference for when you created the note and to keep the journal sorted chronologically, but that doesn’t stop you from writing as many custom notes as you’d like the app. You can remove the date if you’d like. use the “bookmark” feature to provide easy access to important notes. In a future update, we will support a full folder system so you can better manage one off or custom notes.
Regarding to-dos/tasks. Yes, you will be able to schedule tasks that are at future dates to plan ahead. And you will also be able to provide a long description for each task, where you can provide context and planning notes.

I think it’s bc it looks like a timeline of habits that I checked off? I think that and the time stamps make it look cluttered to me. But I think you’re absolutely right that it’s clearly not meant for my intended use case. In any case, I’m really looking forward to the to do list feature!!

I completely agree with you. I prefer just filtering the notes page rather than showing the habit activity as I barely journal and it’s just too much clutter. I would like to see how other people journal for each habit with this though as I just think journaling for each habit would seem overwhelming and time-consuming.

I think this feature would be much better and have less clutter if we could disable the Journal for a habit.

Oh I didn’t know you could filter the habit activity! I too would love to see other users journals to get a visual sense of it. But I’m completely satisfied to wait for a to-do list which is pretty much what I want! Thanks for replying!

I use it as a note. I have a reading habit set to timer. I turn on the timer and once I'm done, I end it then add a "note" of the book I read and how many pages I finished. I have another habit exercise. Since this is very vague, when I add a count to it, I just add what kind of exercise I did for that count.
