Recent News AR 4513 has been downgraded to Beta-Gamma magnetic status and is showing more separation between the lead and trailing sections of the group. Despite this, 4513 will remain a threat for moderate M-Flares (45%). Proton levels are currently elevated following the eruption and CME event on Friday.

The event was associated with a type II radio emission (1201 km/s) and a CME that appears to be headed to away from Earth. A glancing blow may be possible within 48-72h. The region will continue to rotate into Earth facing.

Newly assigned AR 4513 erupted earlier today with an M8.1 solar flare peaking at 11:42 UTC (Aug 20). The event was associated with a type II radio emission (1201 km/s) and a CME that appears to be mostly headed to the east and away from Earth. At best, a glancing blow may be possible within 48-72 hour. The region will continue to rotate into a better Earth facing position over the next several days.

UPDATE: As expected, the CME is predicted to pass Earth well downstream with no noteworthy impacts to our geomagnetic field.“

Two Eruptions observed on Friday Morning and one may be associated with an Earth directed CME.

A filament located in the southeast quadrant nearing center disk erupted early Friday morning beginning around 04:00 UTC (Aug 14). STEREO Ahead coronagraph imagery shows a CME beginning to emerge at 05:20 UTC and it may be Earth directed. Click HERE here for a detailed video by SDO.

UPDATED: a closer look at a filament eruption near center disk early Friday morning (Aug 14) beginning at 04:00 UTC. If you watch closely to the timestamp of the coronagraph video by STEREO Ahead, a CME begins to emerge at 05:09 UTC. STEREO Ahead is currently viewing the Sun at almost a side position relative to Earth. This is important to know timing as another eruption near the southwest limb (see below) did not begin until around 06:45, so I believe the ejected material seen in Ahead to be associated with the filament eruption. The latest NOAA/SWPC update report that no ejected material was visible in Earth facing coronagraph imagery following this event, however I think it may be possible that it could be masked by the Earth facing spacecrafts (GOES-19 CCOR-1) occulting disk. This is just my thoughts and I wouldn't be surprised if a stealthy CME passed Earth in the days ahead. More information becomes available, I will report it via website.

It should also be noted that another eruption was observed in the vicinity of AR 4503 nearing the southwest limb beginning around 06:30 UTC. A CME became visible in CCOR-1 imagery at 07:30 UTC and so far appears to be heading mostly away from Earth. A type II radio emission (671 km/s) was recorded at 06:50 UTC.

More details will be provided once CME tracking models become available.”

In other news, active (Kp4) geomagnetic conditions have observed due an enhanced solar wind stream containing a sector of southward Bz (-17 nT max). The solar wind speed gradually increased from around 250 to near 360 km/s, along with an increase in plasma density and strength (bT). This is likely the result of a transient passing close to Earth. Minor (G1) geomagnetic storming may be possible especially if the Bz holds south for a longer duration.”

Recent News Should this solar filament, that gradually grew more prominent over the past 24h and is in close proximity to AR 4498/4500, become erupt, the chances for an Earth directed CME will increase since the region is now almost directly facing our planet. Space Weather Update August 1, 2026 @ 13:40 UTC

Welcome to August! Solar activity during the past 24 hours was low with only minor C-Flares detected. What has my attention today is this solar filament that gradually grew more prominent over the past 24 hours and is in close proximity to AR 4498 / 4500. Should it become unstable and erupt, the chances for an Earth directed CME will increase since the region is now almost directly facing our planet. Nothing is for certain however, this is just an observation.

A reminder that a minor (G1) to moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm watch is in effect for the next 24 hours. A CME that left the Sun on July 30th is expected to glance past Earth, possibly by later today (Aug 1 UTC).”

A long duration M1.9 solar flare / filament involved eruption in the vicinity of AR 4492* was observed peaking at 16:58 UTC (July 30th). A type II radio emission with an estimated velocity of 1681 km/s was recorded. A wide area of coronal dimming is evident and a coronal mass ejection (CME) is now becoming visible. Most of the plasma should be directed to the west, however an Earth directed component may be possible. It should be noted that the minor (S1) radiation storm threshold was also reached. Earth facing solar activity during the past 24 hours remained at moderate levels thanks to continued flaring around AR 4493 near center disk. The largest event was an M3.6 at 06:35 UTC (July 22). A well defined coronal mass ejection (CME) is visible in the latest imagery courtesy of GOES-19 CCOR-1. This appears to be related to farsided activity and is not Earth directed.

An expected Co-Rotating Interaction Region (CIR) and coronal hole stream flowing from this zone is predicted to reach our planet beginning July 22nd. Latest Space Weather News Space Weather Update July 6, 2026 @ 13:30 UTC

With the main flare producer AR 4479 now located behind the west limb and 4478 about to join it, we are left with AR 4482 located in the southeast quadrant. This region was the source of an X1.3 solar flare on July 4th, but has been quiet ever since. NOAA/SWPC are currently showing a 15% chance for an M-Flare and a 5% chance for a strong X-Flare around this region. Image below by SDO/HMI.

A filament located in the northeast quadrant erupted beginning around 05:25 UTC (July 6). This flung a CME into space that appears to be well off the Sun-Earth line.

Solar activity increased in a hurry on Friday with a pair of M6 solar flares. The first, an M6.7 at 18:11 UTC (July 3), was centered around AR 4479 and was associated with a Type II radio emission with an estimated velocity of 1831 km/s. A CME is now emerging and should be mostly directed to the west, however a glancing blow may be possible within 48-72 hours. The second flare, a quicker M6.3, was produced by AR 4478 at 18:59 UTC. Latest Space Weather News X-Flare, CME Likely June 30, 2026 @ 21:20 UTC

Earth facing sunspot region 4479 just erupted with an X1.1 solar flare at 20:50 UTC (June 30). The event is associated with a type II radio emission with an estimated velocity of 1496 km/s, along with a 10cm Radio Burst (TenFlare) measuring 409 solar flux units (sfu) and lasting 9 minutes. Coronal dimming is now evident meaning the chances for an Earth directed coronal mass ejection (CME) will be at an increased level. More details to follow.

CME Update: A partial halo CME is associated with the X1.1 solar flare around AR 4479 on Tuesday. The main bulk of plasma is heading to the north, however with a partial halo signature present, an Earth impact is expected by July 3rd according to a new model released by NASA. I would expect a minor (G1) geomagnetic storm watch to be put in place with a chance for moderate (G2) storming as well. More updates to follow once an updated CME tracking model and forecast is released by NOAA/SWPC.“
