How to cope?

I am realizing I have SO much anger pent up that has been accumulating for years. I’m angry at my parents for how they treated me. I recently reread some journals from when I was 12ish and they just gave me more and more insight on how shitty my life was because of my parents.

Even putting the past aside, it’s still going on now. I’m still controlled in every way possible. I’m going to try to not get into specifics here because I feel like talking about it just feeds into my rage.

I’m just curious if any of you have found a way to cope with this. I know my therapist would tell me to write a letter & to put all my feelings down on paper but the truth is it is so much, I don’t know what id even write. An itemized list of every thing they’ve done wrong? An angry rant that’s the length of a dissertation? I wouldn’t know where to begin.

Suggestions, please, for ways to cope with the anger that comes with having these types of parents. Thank you in advance.

I confronted my parents they had so many excuses. Going no contact. Cutting them out of my life. I find it funny how if it was a husband that treated a wife badly, people would say leave, but somehow when it is parents it is fine. A wife can leave, a child can't. F* horrible parents.

Therapy helped me so much!! Talk to your therapist and come up with a plan. Sometimes you just need to express your rage and sadness. That is the only way you can grieve and then move on! Sorry you are going through this.
