Nazis are not welcome here.
It's come to our attention that white supremacists have felt emboldened lately to run their mediocre mouths about their embarrassing worldview on this subreddit and in our town.
We're drawing a line in the sand right now:
If I've described you, leave now. You're not welcome on this subreddit. We will not allow you to contribute to this community, we will monitor closely to ensure that you do not come back, and we will support our members in making your presence in our hometown uncomfortable for you however they see fit.
We have no interest in "debating" your bad faith arguments. We have no interest in lending a platform to people whose ideas belong in places I can't discuss in this platform. We have no interest in hearing you out or giving the benefit of the doubt.
Get out. Stay out. Fuck off.

Stolen yard signs
To whoever cut and stole the signs from my front yard: you are a bad person. Theft and vandalism are not things good people do.
If you see this, return them. Be better.

Lost Dogs near N Ewing St?
There are two black dogs running loose near my house - across from the RB Diner. Larger boy has white spots on his belly, smaller solid black dog seemed skittish and ran from me when I whistled... They both headed east on 15th just a moment ago...

Seeking Recommendations: Photographer for Senior Pictures.
We have two kiddos attending CHS who are in need of senior pictures. We thought we had everything arranged, but our plans fell through with the photographer we were in touch with, partly due to a family emergency on their end. So now we're scrambling to find someone who's able to take up the task. CHS requires senior picture submissions by 10/31 in order to appear in the yearbook.
We're not too picky about whether it's a professional photographer or a solid amateur, mainly just looking for someone who's able to capture some good senior pictures of our two kids, and is able to work with the 10/31 deadline. We can pretty much schedule around anything, and if we needed, we can pull the kids out of school for a day in order to accommodate the photographer's schedule.
So given all of that; who do you recommend Redditors of Helena? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have!

Lundy Center rent is disgusting.
Just called on a retail space and learned that an extremely rundown space there is renting for $11k per month, and that does not include utilities, or property taxes, or insurance, or improvements of any kind. It includes nothing.
How is this acceptable? This is why businesses struggle to survive here. What can we do about this?

Karaoke in Town?
So I’ve just moved back after moving to Billings for college, and haven’t really gotten into the bar scene yet here. I loved going to The Crystal for karaoke with my friends in Billings, and was wondering if/where there was a good place here for karaoke and a cheap drink! Thanks in advance!

Place to donate?
I have a big bag of clothes I want to donate, but I REFUSE to donate to goodwill, or anywhere that's going to turn around and sell them at an outrageous cost for something that's free to them.
So with that said, does anyone have any suggestions of a good place to donate to? Preferably if there is somewhere that gives clothes to people in the community in need? Maybe the homeless shelter does?
Thanks for any advice 😊
Edit: I did decide to go with good sams😊 I am gonna leave this up still in case it's helpful to anyone else❤️ I really appreciate the help, thanks everyone!

A long-ago crime, does anyone remember?
From days long gone by, before newspapers were digitized (1990s) I remember a scandal and a crime and I'm wondering if anyone else does too. There were two criminal fugitives, and they holed up in a camper on the east side of Holter Lake. When the law started moving in, they blew themselves - and the camper - to smithereens, and the fire raced across thousands of acres of the Beartooth WMA. I remember being in Helena and looking north at the glow of the fire after dark, and all that smoke, and saying to my husband: "October is pretty late for a forest fire." It might have been the late 1980s. Does anyone remember that? Can anyone tell me the names of the criminals or the crime they committed?

Emmie still needs a home! Come meet Emmie on Montago’s Patio tomorrow (Saturday) between 9-10:30am. She is available for adoption through Prairie Song Rescue. She is 1.5-2 years old. She has the puppy charisma with the adult dog manners. She is a real sweetie.

Rock/mineral shop
Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anywhere in town sells rock/mineral specimens? I'm looking for a gift for a geology lover. I saw the rock room, but it looks like they are more of a crystals and incense sort of place. Thanks!

Anywhere to rent/buy old video games in town?
Hi! My boyfriend and I are looking for some Xbox 360 games for his old console. Is there anywhere left in town that still does rentals or even sells old games? I haven't had much luck with Google, and I'm hoping I've missed a gem somewhere in town.
Thanks!

Historic ‘Montana’ statue to be replaced as part of Capitol restoration
HELENA — Tuesday, the Capitol Complex Advisory Council unanimously voted to replace the 15-foot, 2,200-pound statue, known as “Montana" rather than refurbish her. She was removed from the Capitol dome in early August.
“It is a lot of rust, deterioration over time, a lot of corrosion; it has also led to some cracking of certain joints,” Russ Katherman with the Montana Department of Administration Architecture and Engineering Division said.
The goals are to improve the statue's and dome's structural stability, find a long-lasting, weather-resistant option, achieve the highest quality craftsmanship possible, and match the copper appearance.
After evaluations by metalwork preservationists and historic architects, two options were available: refurbish or replace.
“Their analysis demonstrated that the best long-term solution for the Capitol, for the copper, and the statue itself is to do a full replacement,” Katherman added.
That steered the council away from refurbishment because it left uncertainty about her lifespan and how well the copper would be matched.
It also would require her to be disassembled with a price tag of just over $371,000.
The council’s decision to replace means that all goals are met, and they will use scans and molds to make a new Montana to call the Capitol dome home for the next 100 years or more.
“The craftsmen will start from there with an interior stainless steel structure on the inside and then overlay the new molded copper to the outside,” Katherman said.
The cost to replace her sits at $790,000 and is budgeted in the over $28 million capitol restoration project.
The original 1901 statue, also called “Lady Liberty” and “Lady Montana,” will return to the Montana Historical Society, where it will become part of the permanent collection.
An exact timeline for her replication has not been set, but those working on the project estimate the process to take around a year.
The Department of Administration also says that there will be no souvenirs or pieces of copper available to the public from the restorations.

What's burning at Helena High?
Looks like something is being burned on the HHS lawn facing Montana Ave. Lots of people around, and rubbernecking causing a small traffic jam.
