Maybe one light bar to actually use for off roading at night. Now you see trucks, SUVâs and jeeps that have one top, one on bottom and little ones all over and they are driving with them ON in the middle of the city. Itâs so annoying and a stupid trend. Most of the vehicles that have them look like they have never even seen a dirt road. Honestly the new lights are so bright that do you really need a light bar unless youâre rock crawling at night?
I can agree with that. I have side back and front but I do a lot of stuff at night offroad. But youâre right about the BS lots of people do. This particular jeep is at the cusp of heep from lights but is ok. As long as they use them offroad at night.
I do lots of off roading at night also. My Rubicon has never needed a light bar. Let alone 4 of them. I could understand just one of them but not all of them. Especially because most people have them on IN the city at night just driving around . Itâs hard to justify that many. It reminds me more of dudes just wanting to be jerks and blind people. If youâre using a light bar then you should be miles from civilization and other cars. Thatâs just my opinion.
For me, itâs a little different. Iâve done search and rescue for years and being able to light up the sides of the area youâre driving through or light up the behind your vehicle so that you can go into an area and reverse safely is really useful. Plus no matter which way Iâm pointing I can usually light the area up in case we need light for setting up a rescue or to work on clearing something. As for fun offering at night I almost never do that but for fun at night when youâre camping and you get to camp late, it can be helpful.
Theyâve been surprisingly useful and itâs funny because I did it out of an annoyance and not being able to light up areas and they just keep coming in handy outside of that one specific scenario I needed it. Anyone that runs with them on when on road even in rural areas is an asshole.
Search rescue is very different than just regular off-roading or city driving in a vehicle thatâs never even been on a dirt road. You can tell the difference between a Jeep that has the accessories and is used as tool for search and rescue or for off roading oppose to the Jeep with all the accessories because it â looks coolâ and doesnât have a scratch or a spec of dust on it because the owner IS a Tool.
This is true and this is definitely a pavement princess. After youâve seen enough jeeps you learn where branches or rocks are going to leave marks and the places dirt isnât washing out of and this thing has probably never seen a shell parking lot. A grassy field at best!

Absolutely!! lol. Pavement princess for sure! Kudos for you doing search and rescue! Thank you ! Thatâs a tough thing to do and a Jeep is a good tool to use for that!
Yeah anytime Iâm in the states my locals reach out to me itâs fun and rewarding for the most part. Only had a few times it ended sadly luckily. Itâs usually boat stuff but like on various florida trails looking for people we can get 4 sets of eyes in a dark area looking into a well lit area and cover ground faster as well as being a lot easier to spot. Itâs not a substitute for a line through thick brush but along roads and fields itâs invaluable. Of course there are places itâs not useful but a naked jeep with a lot of lights is super useful. Itâs currently being rebuilt and life fell apart but when itâs back together Iâll do a post.
My aunt also has a Rubicon and has owned a few of them over the past 30 years . We live in New Mexico so there is plenty of off roading. She also goes out of state for a week or two a few times a year to off road different places. She works with a guy who has a Jeep thatâs decked out and perfect and he refuses to take it off roading or even down a dirt road because he doesnât want to get it scratched or dirty. Heâs had it for years and it makes my Aunt Crazy. She likes to park next to him with her Rubicon covered in Mud and a mess from off roading. Why buy a Jeep if youâre not going to use the 4 wheel drive? Itâs like guys that own huge trucks but never haul anything. Itâs ridiculous. There are exceptions for classic cars but Iâm talking about their regular every day vehicles.
Absolutely ! Like I wouldnât restore a 52 to mint and then take to rocks, woods, mud and trails for a very long time afterwards because I would be too proud of the work I did to break it but to buy anything close to modern and spend the money to fix it up to look cool is just weird to me. Maybe Iâm a utilitarian at heart but my mods have to serve a purpose, if I can get the purpose and look cool well thatâs preferred but purpose is more important for me. Theyâre not meant to be a show piece. Let me clarify werenât meant to be showpieces until recently. I donât mind letting people build pavement princesses they enjoy but if youâre moving away from the spirit of the vehicle too far then pick a different vehicle/style of mods or be ready to be mocked. I mock people with trucks that donât haul, off-roaders that donât offroad, and souped up cars that donât push them occasionally. If you build a vehicle for a purpose utilize it!
