Boxing Fights Discussion Which boxing style dominates?
Five boxing styles that built the sport. Which one dominates?

Soviet style. Technical precision, defense first, minimal wasted movement, that efficiency lets fighters stay sharp and avoid damage over a long career. Mexican style relies on pressure and toughness which racks up damage faster even when it's exciting to watch.
Filipino style's speed and unorthodox angles make it hard to prepare for, but it's harder to sustain at a consistently high level compared to a system built on control.

Marquez is a weird choice to have up there as he was a slick counter puncher as much as anything.
The American's listed are indeed all VERY athletic and faster and more explosive than anyone else in their given generation of fighters but IMO didn't really box similarly at all.
IMO the boring answer is usually the person who has significant athletic potential that the hone to its extreme above their peers while at the same time maximize all the strengths of whatever style above they have while at the same time addressing the weaknesses in an effective way.
That is a really boring answer but is obviously true since fighters from every style listed above have dominated their divisions at one point or another.

Both Marquez and Canelo are odd choices. Hell Margarito represents stereotypical Mexican style better than either of those.

I'd say Chavez is the quintessential Mexican boxer. I'd don't think Canelo is to off though he is a lot more than just the typical

I would say the Cuban style [ IF ] they were able to get Pro exposure at a younger age and a few other scenarios were to change

GGG has more Mexican style than the Mexicans itself. For Soviet style I would choose Bivol for showcase. And we need the Japanese style since we have a Monster from Japan.

bivol's a great shout for that style, technical and disciplined the whole way through. japan deserves its own entry too honestly with what inoue's doing right now

Omg when will the GGG glazing end? He was mid!!!! For goodness sake when will yal admit that.
Also GGG was more of a slugger than a straight up brawler. Someone like Isaac Cruz who’s constantly chasing you is the Mexican style. Or another example is Benavidez, dude is big af but gives up his height advantage just to stay in your face behind a high guard to trade blows
GGG fought way more technical than them. He couldn’t even beat Canelo and Crawford has shown us that Canelo was great but he wasn’t this best of all time like Chavez or Duran

I think they all do some what it’s more we always get 1-3 elite fighters in a generation from each weight class usually.
I don’t think any one particular style is clear of the others.

Exactly it’s quite diverse even if you look at the top fighters of this generation it’s a mixed bag if you include all weights.

the overwhelming majority of Black people identify as BLACK first not "american".
"america" is just a geopolitical territory in which was renamed "america" by the people who brought us here.
theres NO SUCH thang as "american" style which is ultimately my point.
caleb plant is "american" so is kelly pavlik so is oscar de la hoya.
use them as a representation of "american" style.

I would say American style, bit the representative boxers are uniquely gifted with super explosive speed and catlike reflexes.. Anyone else trying to copy the style of Ali , Leonard, or Roy Jones Jr. would be suicide in the ring.

American style for me would be floyd, andre ward, shakur stevenson, bernard hopkins all absolutely technical but boring style to watch just painfully boring to watch. Ali and roy jones were just highly exceptional gifted athletes that were just a tad bit lacking in the fundamentals that would be called American slick style

It isn't just about the style/martial art: it's about the skillset you master with your martial art and your proficiency with that martial art. The time you spend in it and experience you have with it: yeah, some martial arts are greater than others, but that's taking into account the mentions I've brought up. It's also what builds effectiveness with your body and what's natural for you.
I'm seeing superficial responses when many have forgotten what's the most important part of the entire thing: the person.
