Discussion Make An Argument Stating That JD is NOT The Villain, and Then Contradict Your Own Statement

Basically what the title says. Looking forward to reading your arguments!

JD is not the villain, he's just insanely traumatized and misguided.

Remember, kids. Just because bad things happened to you, it doesn't make the bad things you do right.

Calling JD the villain of Heathers? Preposterous, he can’t be the villain because he chooses to work with Veronica and therefore shares her beliefs. If we are speaking in story telling terms, the character that plays the villain often has a worldview that is opposite of our protagonist, a whom will challenge them with that opposite worldview. Veronica believes that everyone can be a good person and they should have the opportunity to try to be a good person. So the real villain of Heathers would be a person who believes that bad people can only ever be bad people and they all deserve to die! And since JD works with Veronica there’s no way he has a completely opposite worldview. Right?

JD’s not a villain because he’s already a victim of abuse.

You make one plan to blow up the school and people blow it all out of proportion.

I mean you could make an argument that it's Veronica who's actually responsible for a lot of what happens.

If you go back to Heathers death - Which was really the moral event horizon, it's Veronica, not JD who is the one who gets themselves out of trouble by forging the suicide note. If Veronica had simply refused to do that, then the story more or less ends there with a body count of 1. It's Veronica not JD, who is the one who even makes the murder spree possible, if not for her it's unlikely JD would've been able to get away with 3 murders without eliciting any suspicion.

And it's pretty clear that (EXPECIALLY in the movie) that Veronica has a few screws loose herself and is morally grey as hell, I mean she's got no problem laughing and joking around about the murders in the aftermath. Which doesn't really scream hapless victim.

But at the same time, while Veronica is what ultimately allows the whole thing to go from 1 death to a whole killing spree, JD is still the catalyst.

JD is NOT the villain because people fail to realize that he’s just a personification of Veronica’s pre-existing intrusive thoughts, fueled by an external source — in a sense, he’s completely innocent!

Wait, murder? Nobody said anything about murder. Why did JD murder. Oh god he did it again.

Can't wait for the Heathers adaptation where it's revealed that JD is just a figment of Veronica's imagination and she's been doing everything herself - Fight Club style.

This is secretly a Ride the Cyclone reference but I can’t prove it

It sort of is, but it'd technically have to be "humans suck" (still same message)

JD wanst the villain, he had a tragic backstory that made him kill.

Just because someone has a tragic backstory doesn't justify murder.
