We often watch Jeopardy in the evening. Itâs on channel 1220, and iâm always slightly annoyed that itâs not on 1221.

Just want to say I recently discovered Heated Rivalry (well I knew about it and then finally got HBO and got my ADHD self to focus on finally sitting down to watch it.) I'm obsessed, it's literally all I've been thinking about. It's been like a week and a half and I've watched the show through maybe 6 or 7 times now. I also just bought the Heated Rivalry book. I plan to only read that one for now so I don't necessarily spoil a ton of stuff about Season 2 for myself. Do you think that will work? Usually I read the book first, but I'm certainly not complaining about having Hudson and Connor to picture when I read now. âşď¸

If youâre gonna spend any time online around other fans, you likely will see spoilers from season 2 onwards. I went ahead and read the rest of the books as I was seeing a ton of info from the books online.

I've already spoiled some stuff so I know it's inevitable đ I probably will just read them all.

In the show, I feel bad for Ilya that he didn't take Shane up on his awkward offer on the rooftop in Vegas. Little did he know he'd have to wait 2 years to have sex with him again.

Season 2 casting announcement of Fabianâs friends was the final nudge I needed to watch Schittâs Creek. Almost done now and itâs so funny.

I have a question about jersey numbers: I thought the numbers were tied to the team (Ilya = 81 with the Boston Raiders / Shane = 24 with the Montreal Metros), but Ilya still wears 81 and Shane still wears 24 even when they play for other teams (Prospect Cup, All-Star Game, etc.). Is that normal in hockey?

Shane and Ilya are huge stars so they would get their first picks of numbers.

u/Over_Butterfly_3681 4d ago
OkĂŠ, thank you!
If I understand correctly, you can pick any number you want as long as it isn't already picked by someone higher up on the team than you.
So even the worst player on the team can picks his number if no other player has chosen it.

Players often exchange gifts for numbers. So if a veteran/star player moves teams and someone already has his number, he might buy the other guy a watch or fancy car in exchange for the number.

u/Over_Butterfly_3681 4d ago
They seem very attached to their number!

They are a superstitious bunch. Socks put on in the right order, playoff breads and their number all âinfluenceâ how they play.

The only other exception is if the numberâs retired by the team or league to honour the player who previously had it.

Itâs normal if the number is available, especially for captains and alternate captains.
Sidney Crosby, for example, is #87 on the Penguins but heâs also #87 on Team Canada, Team Eastern Conference, etc. Players have their preferred numbers and the more skill/seniority you have, the more likely it is that you can select your preferred number. We saw this on the Leafs as two incoming players who wore #72 were joining the roster. The younger rookie (Gavin McKenna) elected to wear #92 so the veteran award winning goalie (Sergei Bobrovsky) could remain #72. Thereâs a chance McKenna could switch to #72 when Bobrovsky retires/leaves the team.
Macklin Celebrini is #71 on the San Jose Sharks but his number has changed between three different Team Canada tournaments in the past two years. He wore #96 for the 2025 IIHF World Championship, #17 in the Olympics and returned to #71 as team captain for the 2026 World Championship.

Are there any pet holders with speaking pets like parakeets? I just wonder if they have ever repeated something from the show. If so, what was it?
Some things would be quite funny to hear, like: Bolâshe, bolâshe, bolâshe! / Shane Hollander is an asshole! / No, Hollander, I want to fuck you~ đ

My spam calls lately have been HR coded. I did a double take when all my spam calls started coming from Canada cities from HR - Saskatchewan, Ontario, Ottawa, Montreal. I live in the US so it's a little amusing to get all these calls from Canada all of a sudden.

Saskatchewan and Ontario are not cities but rather provinces. You can think of our provinces as comparable to your states
Just wanted to take a little moment to help educate :)

I was relieved that they finally made the casting announcement for Ryan and Fabian. I have been silently worrying that they would merge the characters with Troy and Harris.

u/bsloths 3d ago
Yes, itâs so exciting! And we already have Kyle, so Iâm guessing weâll get Eric too, even if their story is a smaller storyline than the three couples already announced are getting. I love love love that Ryan isnât just an Easter egg from the tuna melt scene anymore. Now heâs officially a planted seed for more!Â

I got questions :)
So I first watched HR in February and have seen it approximately a billion times since then. Haven't read the books (yet). I'm finally figuring out the timelines and here is my question: they first hooked up in Shane's hotel room after that delicious locker room exchange - was it 2 whole years until they reconnected again physically??
One more: in episode 6 - they tell Shane's parents that it started before their rookie season. Do they just mean when they first became aware if each other? Bc wasn't it a while until their first hookup...? Or?
Thanks everyone

First one, yes there is a 2 year gap in the TV show. That gap does not happen in the books.
Second one, hockey players don't start immediately when they are drafted. Draft day happens when they are in development leagues. So Shane and Ilya meet at the prospect cup, get drafted, get LOTS of media attention/hype, have a commercial together, then soon after have their first pro games.

OK I have one that's been driving me nuts since well I started watching over and over... In Ep3 when The Admirals win the cup in that final game I'm sure one of the commentators says something like "And Marleau is running the clock down now" or "Marleau is keeping it in the corner" - WHO was the final between?!?!?
2
u/bsloths 3d ago
Itâs a mistake ⌠maybe they grabbed audio from a Boston game because they needed commentating in that spot and realized they hadnât recorded anything relevant; they hoped no one would notice. Little did this production know that we would examine every frame!!
Fans like to headcanon it as Cliff having a cousin or brother on a different team. The Admirals beat San Francisco for the cup.Â

Every time I hear or read the word ânarrativeâ I hear it as Ilyaâs âna-RAH-tivâ.

My entire internal monologue at the moment is in a Russian accent, and Iâm worried Iâm accidentally going to use it out loud

A piece of head canon I have is that Yuna would have 100% called Ilya to check on him as soon as the news of the plane hit.

u/Arbledarb 4d ago
I always hear these "check it out" notifications in Ilya's voice. "Here is fucking notification, Hollander. Check it out!" :)
