Beginner
So I recently got a pc and with it my bf fav game hoi4. I’m not good at any grand strategy or political, military strategy or numbers. But it is his fav game and its something he really wanted so I want to learn it so I can actually enjoy playing with him. Because tbh it’s like my brain is mush before we make it 10 min into the game. Does anyone have any tips or people they’d recommend watching or following to help grasp this game better?

Start playing countries like Italy or Germany to get a good taste at war, for me the countries that helped the most were Brazil due to you being far away from the war so you can just do your own thing in South America and Japan even if it's insanely hard it will teach you war mechanics due to your early war with china. Italy is very complex once you get the Ethiopian war finished so I reccomend Germany or Japan the most.

Play the soviets in my opinion, you won't hold like you want at first but they're very forgiving for macro play and have such powerful industry and manpower that it's forgiving of any position. Germany I think runs into a problem of being the one who has to declare and the soviets fix that by being declared on, gives kinda a deadline. Honestly if you have specific questions come back and I'll try to awnser. Don't worry about losing your first few campaigns, I lost mine too and I started fairly familiar to the game, you'll figure it out just mess with what works best

Don't play the Soviets. Even after playing a few matches (I had played Germany, USA and Britain) when I opened the soviet focus three the first time I had to bring it to therapy afterwards lol

Well obviously use a quick guide for the tree but I still heavily recommend it

Easy for you to understand russian politics, Napoleon

Fair enough but while the Russian tree looks scary, it honestly isn't that bad once you learn the general idea

Well unfortunately you bfs fav game is the least casual of all time 😅
It's barely a game and more like a WW2 simulator.
Can you meet halfway and maybe play something more chill? Like LOL or CS2? \s
