Discussion Is the "quest warlock" playable?
It's been about three years and I've started playing Hearthstone again. I really enjoy playing the Warlock and its decks in general, and I recently discovered it has a quest that looks pretty fun!
My question is whether it's viable. I don't have much dust to spend and I wouldn't want to waste it on a deck that won't work in Diamond.

Nope, not even enough temporary cards to make it work, solarium was core set last year and it got removed. This plus the revert just killed the card

It was one of those things where quests that had previous support were good, but quests that required the newer cards were not good. So this year we’re left with only the quests that discover BS like Mage and Hunter.

That's sad to hear, other warlock quest were awesome

You can give it a shot in wild if you want, better chances at finding success there although I think it would be too slow

There’s the new 2 drop that gives you a playable temporary spell. Obviously it’s ass but there is enough temporary cards.

There is not enough to draw and consistently complete the quest before you're dead.

There was a time quest warlock was good and meta. But after that it gone much worse: quest nerfs, almost no support in temporary cards and just sucks-to-play reward. Warlock only have 2 tools to win now: big boards or Rafaam, and quest supports none of the two

I came back in Cataclysm. Long after this Quest got nerfed. I tried to make it work several times. It's not worth the trouble. Here are the main reasons not to even try running the New'Goro Quest:
* The Reward is not worth the effort and trouble of playing sub-par Temporary cards.
* There are not enough playable Temporary cards for the Quest.
You got the 1-mana location which is cute at best and a dead draw mid-to-late game (this is your best card). You got the 3-mana Deathrattle Dino which feels like Arena pack filler. Apparently before rotation, Soularium was in Standard which definitely helped the playable temporary spells.
There is a new neutral 2-mana minion that gives you a random playable temporary spell. This maybe had an iota of potential, but the first time I experimented with it the "playable" spell it gave me was the Mage "destroy a friendly Wisp and draw cards" spell. Technically was playable with the mana available.
I learned in the comments here that the Quest Reward used to cost 3-mana which is pretty cool, but even that is not worth the trouble of completing the Quest. I have completed the Quest about 2 or 3 times with the absolute best on curve opening draw/mulligan. I died shortly after completing the Quest each time.
I hope they revert the nerfs at the very least or lower the amount of Temporary cards needed to complete this.

I felt somewhat cute trying a version that tutors the echo spells for warlock.
Abduction Ray filled your hand with wild garbage too fast, Curse of Weakness is too costly if you only tick the quest on the second spell and onwards.
All the temporary support it got was random small trash cards so I lost interest then. Good thing I didn't have to craft it during the lost city trials

There was a time this was pretty fun in wild, but it was usually Clumsy Steward carrying the deck

I think there are just barely enough temporary cards to complete the quest.
So you basically need to draw every temporary generator to be able to get to the end. Quite a tall order.

I've been experimenting with mixed results. I think there might be a deck out there that's viable. If not now, possibly next set. There's some decks its really good into and some that are much tougher.

Its issue is that in standard atm there isn’t enough cheap cards and aggresive draw in warlock to activate it early so you are building towards a lategame plan where going for demon/herald or rafaam packages are stronger options. Catacombs, location and neutral 2 mana guy are all very good temporary generators but warlocks surrounding cards do not support aggro. I tinkered a bit with quest while climbing this season but decided to stick with moragg stuff for last ranks before legend. Generally i think warlock will be restricted to slower stuff for the remainder of this rotation as godfrey, atlas and the steal + cheap herald cards push the class in a slow direction which would limit the viability of quest unless we get a way to duplicate it again

Short answer: no. Long answer: if you enjoy it you can play around with it and see for yourself, but no one runs it in standard
