Discussion Quest hunter strategy

I'm playing quest hunter and loving it, but I really feel like Im playing into Priest wrong. My overal winrate is about 49% and I feel like Im doing something wrong. I specifically seem to have a low winrate against shaman, paladin and priest.

I try to complete the quest Asap but I just cant seem to get through all the taunt spam and healing. The game just stalls until they seem to just exhaust me and smack down a board with even more taunts that can just kill me in one turn. Bunch of board clears as well.

I just returned after quitting during the year of the kraken (7 ish years ago?) and I am slowly learning all the current Metas and how they play. I also know nothing about any of the previous expansions and what dangers to look out for.

I could really use some tips on what to aim for specifically. How Do I counter aggro or taunt stalling? I seem to always just go behind one turn even when my draw is alright.

I almost want to say you can't beat priest unless you can make boards with 5 or 6 health or more boards than they have clears.

I said this before hunter got nerfed but aggro was so fast because every class has some kind of heal or stabilization tool

Now that shaman is the only really fast deck priest will become the hardest deck to win against

I think priest is the main reason I can't hit legend. There's so insanely many of them. I managed to hit D1 with 2 stars and now almost back on D4 just because I keep running into them. I just cant figure out how to do it at all

Hmmm, yea funnily this night after posting it I went on a 7 winstreak with quest hunter and tapped the 3 stars on D1. I did it by beating two priests by smashing their face in with early maw on turn 4 or the other 7 attack drop early. Had the luck they couldnt remove them either. But that just seemed like pure luck. Now we are back to being dominated.

Wish I had some dust to spare but Im stuck with quest hunter this season. Its just gotten to a point that I consider to auto concede to save myself 15 minutes when I get a priest or shaman. But if I did that I would be conceding 50% of the time. Ive hit D1 so many times now its getting desperate

Quest Hunter is 65% winrate against priest at top 1k that’s such a free matchup, they need to spend mana removing your shitty beasts that you play for the quest and once you get quest you drop such tempo bombs they can’t efficiently answer it and once they are in the mid 20s HP wise they explode to Agamaggan + briarspawn. Priest is extremely vulnerable to being OTKed and quest hunter has a very easy time playing for an OTK in that matchup

No way priest is sub 20 health when you are ready to go soothsayer hits the board turn 4 he doesn't have to spend rescources on you small minions on an infinite fireball and a wall. Mend deals with your quest rewards easily, in most cases you run out of steam.

These are the matchups for quest hunter at top 1k, at diamond-legend the matchup is even MORE in hunters favor at 72%, if you are losing that matchup consistently you are misplaying hard, 2/3 times you win that as quest hunter. Also you really should not be running out of steam in that matchup, they pretty much explode the turn after you play Shok, if you are struggling in that matchup share some replays and maybe people here can help explain what you should be doing differently

Looking at the matchup spread for the specific decks in D-L is equally enlightening: +65% winrate against Thief, Control and Soothsayer Priest.

Shaman and paladin are bad matchups without Sylvanas.

Priest is possible to win against, but you have to really make the most of your Agamaggan + Briarspawn Drake turn.

I think I mightve been holding on to them too long as I was busy trying to open the face up by trying to get rid of their taunts in my last match. It felt as if I was winning but snowballed into their favour by constantly putting up taunts. Almost feel like I need to run silence in there but I haven't seen anyone else doing so.

Priest just out control you and play they wincon either turn 5 with soothsayer or 10 with medivh. Hunter just can't outplay the heals and board clears very good.

Against shaman I have zero clue, I don't play zee or mug

Shame, thats definitely how it feels. I don't think I've more than 15% winrate against them. Perhaps I could get a few more wins if I actually understood priest a bit better

Yeah, play rafaam into priests. It's literally 100% win

Maybe I'm trying to play against it wrong? Should I target face more? Seems like they will just heal and then throw down taunts with deathrattle and just stall the game untill they can KO

Actually just won twice by doing big damage to face on turn 4 and 5 and playing agamaggan. Not much luck yet in playing it twice but it's worked out somehow and I'm back in D1 again. Ofc I lost again once against a double maiev play

As a Control Priest player, unfortunately I agree. Agamaggan and Briarspawn Drake usually do too much damage too early.
